I have decided to start all over and read it from front to back again. I am currently in Genesis in the area where it discusses Jacob.
To me, Jacob seemed like a deceitful person. On three different occasion, in chapters 27, 30 and 33, he does deceitful things yet he continues to receive the blessings of God. Can someone explain to me why? I'm just having trouble with this and I've read it over and over and I just can't figure it out.
Good Morning: You are presently studying the Patriarchal era of the Old Testament. During this era, God chose certain men to fulfill his plans for mankind. God's ways are infinitely much higher than our ways; beyond our comprehension. In our way of thinking today; yes, Jacob was a deceitful rascal; looking out for number one...... himself. Jacob's name means 'grabber', 'supplanter'; a deceitful person. God chose this man to be the 'progenitor of a peculiar people'; God's Elect/Chosen people. Jacob begat 12 sons, each of which founded a tribe of the Nation Israel [God changed Jacob's name to Israel at Bethel]. There is much more I could state about Jacob, his twin brother Esau; His parents, Issac and Rebekkah. Regarding your original concern; please try to remember God has always used/chose people you and I would not choose; for His Good Purpose.
