I have a friend who's been in Notre Dame and he says it was amazing, I'm sure it was.

I think there's a Salsbury Cathedral, if so is that an example of gothic architecutre?

Gothic architecture is a style of architecture that was especially popular in the Medieval period around 100o-1300. The descriptive term "Gothic" when applied to this style of building did not come into use until later, during the Renaissance period by critics of the style who thought it barbaric.

The style involves the use of certain distinctive features, such as the flying buttress and pointed-top arches that allowed for very high ceilings and the use of many large stained glass windows. The exterior of many of these buildings (usually cathedrals) is often quite ornate, with statues (such as staues of saints, gargoyles) and very fancy windows.

You are correct that it was popular in France, and a beautiful example of this style is the Cathedral Notre Dame de Paris. If you ever get to France it is a sight worth seeing in person...very amazing.

thanks for info about the pound being from him. Even if its not on my test, its interesting to know and info about the ostogoths and vigigoths too.

I've wondered if the terms goth or gothic describing peole is dealing with that or totally unreated when I found out about Goths from Germany last year too. And, if "gothic" architecture came from there too or not. I think France was big on it but not sure if that's the case and where else too.

The term "goth" actually is general for the two goth groups. The Visigoths were from the west and the Ostrogoths were from the east. In the 3rd century the goths came out of Russia and were famed for fighting from horsback. The Roman Empire barely drove them back.

The Ostrogoths were subjugated by the Huns. The Visigoths sought sanctuary from the Huns under the Roman Empire in return for defending the Balkans. Their offer was rejected, and so they invaded and defeated a Roman Army. In the treaty they settled in the Balkans and fought against Atilla and the Ostrogoths, who were defeated around the 450s. In the decline of the Huns, the Ostrogoths settled in Italy, and controlled it until defeated by Justinian, who restablished the Roman boundaries.

Charlemagne was Charles the Great, and divided his kingdom into over 300 counties, each governed by a Count and a representative of the church. He estasblished a form of currency called the Pound, and at his death and then the death of his son, the kingdom was eventually divided into 3 regions which would later become France and the Holy Roman Empire. One should note that under his leadership scholership, art, literature, and architechture flourished.

^^^^^^^^My book didn't even tell me about a 30 year war. Thanks for help

I wasn't asking for an easy out. Its not like I have an essay on it and I'm copying nad pasting. I still have to memorize and absorb this stuff. I'm not doing plagerism. In previous times, its been pretty good at describing thigns to me.

Were the vigigoths the same as the "goths" 9cause there were two goths) that along iwth the huns gave lots of competition to the Roman Cahtolic Empire?

I've wondered if that was part of Martin Luther getting support too. I could be wrong though.

Im trying not to drop out of classes due to my sleep problem too. Its hard to comprehend or read or memorize anything for me. I was pretty good yesterday, but then last night I went right back with about 4 and a half hours of sleep and seeming like I'm getting a sinus infetion. So please pray for me.

thanks for help with what to look at though.

Whas Charlemegne 9Charles the Great) a good/humble person from the start and truly surprised when appointed and then the power got to him? Maybe my text book has to be non opinionated too so I'm wondering.

1.) What changes did Diocletian and Constantine bring to the Roman Mediterranean? What happened to the Western Roman Mediterranean after the reign of Constantine?

Focus on the attributes of the two individuals, and the primary events during their reign. One should also examine the reasons and results of the relocation of the Roman capital from Rome to Constantinopal.

2.) What was the Eastern Roman Empire like during the reign of Emperor Justinian? What territorial, politicial, relgious and economic changes did the Byzantien Empire experience following Justinian's reign?

Examine the solidification and securing of the Roman outposts, the defeat of paganism, and the rise of Baptized Christian domination.

3.) What was Germanic Europe like before the Charlemagen? What was Charlemagne's Carolingian Empire like?

Analyze the pagan Saxons influence pre-Charlamagne, and his 30 year war and unification of Europe. Detail his organizational skills and military expertisse. Saxon paganism to the North, Roman Catholic unification to the south. Examine the solidification of the Papal Empire throughout Europe, as he is crowned emperor, by Pope Leo.

4. ) Why did Europe eventually develop a feudal political and social sytem? What was the feudal Europe like and define the feudal system and how it worked.

Look into protection/defense of peoples and property, and the transition from agraian to commerce.

5) What roles did the Catholic Church and its leaders play in Druope during this period?

One should look at the unification of social/political/military power, and the forced compliance of faith and tradition.

You are taking a Western Civ class, yet your book nor your professor give you this information? This is a lot of ground to cover, and you need to put in the time and do your own homework. There are many resources in your library and on the internet and I suggest you start delving into them. It wouldn't be very Christian of us to help you do your quiz, would it? It wouldn't help you in the long run anyway, as you need to learn the material as well as learn the study habits necessary to get through whatever type of schooling you are doing.

thank you very much. I know I've asked before about Cosntantine too but besides Chrsitianity (at least the view I'd need for my test) and expansion, I don't know of anything else.
