Mon Nov 4,2002 -- A volcano has erupted in Pakistan's northern region after a 5.6 earthquake hit the area early Saturday morning, reports said. Reports from the area suggest that smoke can be seen coming out from mountains while explosions are being heard. According to a report landslide has closed the main highway, creating problems for the people. There was no immediate report of casualty from any part of northern areas. However, they feared casualties may be reported from far-flung areas. However, the tremors caused considerable damage to Karakoram Highway (KKH) at Tatu, some 120 km east of Gilgit, sources said. The sources said about two kilometers long portion of the KKH at Tatu was badly hit by the earthquake while one km was effected at Dashkaa, which created difficulties for the people.
