2 Strong Solomon Island Quakes

Wed Sep 25,2002 -- Early this morning a strong quake struck the SOLOMON ISLANDS region. The magnitude of the quake was a 6.0. Then, after about 18 hours, a stronger earthquake hit the same area. That one had a magnitude of 6.2. The epicenters of both quakes were about 65 miles (105 km) W of Kira Kira, Solomon Islands

Wed Sep 25,2002 -- Yet another strong quake has hit the SOLOMON ISLANDS region today. But, instead of the quakes getting smaller, they are larger. The latest earthquake was a magnitude 6.3, and was 10 miles from the earlier 6.0 & 6.2 quakes today. The 6.3 quake which struck only about 7 minutes after the 2nd one, had an epicenter about 55 miles (85 km) WSW of Kira Kira, Solomon Islands

Wed Sep 25,2002 -- An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 was recorded deep below the Pacific Ocean east of New Zealand on Wednesday morning, but emergency services reported no casualties or damage. The government institute said the big temblor was centered 530 kilometers (331 miles) from the North Island's east coast at a depth of 510 kilometers (318 miles) below sea level. While some 14,000 quakes are recorded in and around New Zealand each year, but on average only 100-150 are big enough to even be felt by residents.
