SEPTEMBER 12, 2002 - Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat is harboring 25 Palestinians who are on the Israel Defense Forces' wanted list at his compound in Ramallah, Israel Radio reported Wednesday.
Among the 25 are the head of PA intelligence in the West Bank, Tawfiq Tirawi, whom Israel believes has been involved in orchestrating terror attacks, according to Palestinian sources who spoke with Israel Radio.
Some of the 25 have taken permanent refuge in the Mukata, Arafat's compound. Channel Two television reported Tuesday that Arafat insisted that the opening session of the Palestinian Legislative Council take place in his compound fearing that if he left it IDF forces would move in and arrest the wanted men.
In intifada action, IDF soldiers prevented a possible suicide bombing when they nabbed a 15-year-old Palestinian in the Nablus area on Tuesday. Soldiers found three wanted members of the militant Islamic Jihad organization, along with the teen, as they were hiding in a field.
The army said the Jihad members were about to dispatch the teen to carry out a suicide attack inside Israel, which would have made him the youngest suicide bomber so far.
The IDF made about 20 arrests on Tuesday in Palestinian towns, including one senior Fatah and one senior Hamas leader
