You can add South Dakota to this list. We have had some rain infact yesterday it rained all day, and the ground is dry today.

Sunflower crops that should be 4 feet tall are luck to be 18 inches.

Atlanta faces historic drought

Tue Sep 10,2002 -- If Atlanta doesn't get above-average rainfall for the next 4 months, it will complete its driest 4-year period on record, surpassing the low mark set more than 100 years ago. The city has recorded only 137.70 inches of rain since the beginning of 1999, said Jim Noel, senior hydrologist at the National Weather Service in Peachtree City. Unless a tropical storm system brings some much-needed rain, Atlanta probably will break the record of 157.39 set from 1893-96. "We are in peak hurricane season, but it will just be luck if we get any tropical rain," Noel said. "The computer models now say the next few weeks will be drier than normal." Lake levels are falling by an average of 1 to 3 feet every 2 weeks. August was a particularly dry month; Atlanta had only 0.77 inch of rain, and Athens got only 0.14. And without rain, there's a greater risk of brush fires as well.

Australian Drought Continues to Spread

Tue Sep 10,2002 -- An ongoing drought in Australia’s New South Wales state has continued to spread, engulfing the wheat-growing district of Temora Shire west of Canberra. Farmers have been forced to sell hundreds of thousands of sheep each week as the drought moves farther east. The Canberra Times reported that if heavy rain does not fall within the next 7 to 10 days, most farmers will be forced to write off the year’s crops.

Tue Sep 10,2002 -- The city of Golden has banned all outdoor water use after it lost an appeal of a state order saying it must shut off nearly 1/2 its' water supply and allow the water to flow to drought-stricken neighbors downstream. The city, one of the few in the state that had not restricted water use, planned to send workers door to door to advise residents and establish 24-hour patrols to enforce the new restriction. "Everybody's always looking at us to see if we're taking too much and I guess maybe we were," Bestor said Tuesday.
Colorado is in its worst drought in a century and communities across the state are limiting water use. Reservoirs and other water resources have reached all-time record lows because of a small snowpack from last winter and little rain throughout the summer. Many cities, including Denver and Aurora, will ban all outdoor water use Oct. 1. Until now, however, Golden residents had been keeping their lawns green while landscaping went brown in communities downstream
