JNW News Arafat's Fatah 'ready with 5,000 bombers' By Jerusalem Newswire Editorial Staff
January 6, 2004
Jerusalem (jnewwire.com) - A senior leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades said in an interview Tuesday that his terror group has more than 5,000 "suicide" bombers waiting in the wings to strike Israel.
The group is a "military" wing of Yasser Arafat's Fatah organization, which has the ruling majority in the Palestinian Legislative Council. That connection leads many Israelis to view the Brigades as a sanctioned Palestinian Authority terror group.
The Al Aqsa Brigades appears on the US State Department's list of known terrorist organizations.
'More than 5,000 jihadists waiting'
Abu Kasi, the head of the Al Aqsa Brigades in the Gaza Strip, told the London-based Arabic daily A-sharq al-awsat his group was prepared to launch a larger attack against Israel.
According to Abu Kasi, Al Aqsa Brigades has more than 5,000 willing "suicide" bombers in Judea, Samaria and Gaza waiting for the order to slaughter Jewish men, women and children.
'Arafat is our boss'
Abu Kasi took a stand on the current internal Fatah strife, saying the Brigades see Yasser Arafat as their one and only leader. The comment underscored Israeli assertions that Arafat is directly behind much of the terrorism plaguing the Jewish state. Fatah's Al Aqsa Brigades and Tanzim "military" wings have carried out the lion's share of attacks against Israelis in the ongoing Oslo War.
'They hit us hard'
In the interview, the terrorist conceded that recent IDF military action against the Palestinians had severely damaged the Brigades' ability to carry out terrorist atrocities.
"[The IDF actions] have without doubt affected the infrastructure of the Brigades," he said.
By his count, IDF activity has resulted in the deaths of 350 Al Aqsa Brigades terrorists, and the arrest of nearly 100 more.
