I believe there were real giants in the beginning until David killed Goliath and and his men killed the last four giants.
Giants of Davids time:
Goliath, Lami, Ishbibanob, Saph and Gath.
Jewish writers even wrote about the large bones that still existed in thier days, two thousand years ago. They believed since there was no written word of God, He sent angels to teach men righteousness and they became enamored by the daughters of men. This created the seed of the serpent, a race of giants.
