It is clear to all what your being and it goes a lot further than unkind and foolish.

Repent while the day is yet called day...

(For those visiting this Board with a limited knowledge or just recently born again/ eternally saved don't let this persons post(weed seed) confuse or make you "feel" condemned! for giving your heart to Jesus and having faith in Jesus for your ETERNAL SALVATION.)

The AntiMessiah Deception of the Sacred Name Cult

Sacred Namers are a group largely professing to be Torah Observant Gentiles, who believe that the only source of power and righteousness in creation is the use (and frequent use at that) of the Holy Name which the Creator gave to Moses on Mount Sinai. This group routinely pronounces anyone who does not use their terminology and their "correct" pronunciation of the name of G-d as Pagan. There is a deeply troubling quasi-psychotic hatred which can be easily found in these groups. Any word of term which is English or Greek is considered to be Pagan in origin. Even common words such as "Sacred", "Holy", or "G-d" will instantly brand you as a pagan idolater who has no hope of redemption.

The history of the Sacred Name Cults shows them to be derived of the Millerite sects, the Adventists and the Church of God, and thus from the false prophet William Miller who prophesied the return of Jesus in 1843 and made a subsequent false prophecy concerning 1845. Though his group self destructed by the mid 19th century the followers became the Adventists and later Church of God sects, preserving the strict legalism and false prophetic bents of the original group.

These groups are founded on hatred and bitterness and a private interpretation of the scriptures which does not bear up to close scrutiny by the Word of G-d. Though claiming to be Torah Observant Messianics they like the Pharisees use their personal interpretation of Torah as a weapon to condemn all others and so miss the heart of Torah completely choosing to judge and condemn instead of loving their neighbor as themselves.

How to Respond to the Sacred Namer

Turn their own doctrine back at them

1. "There is no other name given under heaven amongst men by which we must be saved"

2. Jesus is the name of the Messiah in English, this we know for certain. Y'shua is a Hebrew equivalent as is Yoshua... but YAHShua? Never heard of him... it is neither English nor Greek nor even Hebrew, it is an invention of Americans who came out of a sect of the Christian Church... a sect that rejects the very religion it came from as being pagan.

3. Paul preached the unknown G-d and never once during that sermon mentioned the name of G-d, how was anyone saved?

4. You do not know the name of the redeemer so by your own doctrine you are condemned

5. You do not know the person of the redeemer because you practice unrighteous judgment based on your own false understanding of the name of G-d therefore according to the Living Torah as given by Y'shua himself, you are a stone white sepulcher full of dead men's bones. Repent of your sins and come to Messiah... learn of the person through his Word (Davar) and his Ruach (Spirit) and you shall receive the FREE GIFT of ETERNAL Salvation.

אני אוהב את יהוה עם כל המוח לבי הגוף וכוח; ואת שכניי כמוני.

I love YaHWeH with all my heart mind body and strength; and my neighbor as myself.

אבינו שבשמים יקר שלי, בירך על שמך!
אבא נותן לנו אוזניים לשמוע ועיניים לראות, כי ייתכן מהולל.
היקר הוא הבן Yahushua שלך, ואנחנו יכולים ללכת אחריו בכל הדברים. יברך את המשפחה שלי זה היום, ואנחנו יכולים לעקוב אחריך בכל ליבנו.

The Names of God

Old Testament (The Hebrew Scriptures, or Tanach):
EL: God ("mighty, strong, prominent") used 250 times in the OT See Gen. 7:1, 28:3, 35:11; Nu. 23:22; Josh. 3:10; 2 Sam. 22:31, 32; Neh. 1:5, 9:32; Isa. 9:6; Ezek. 10:5. El is linguistically equivalent to the Moslem "Allah," but the attributes of Allah in Islam are entirely different from those of the God of the Hebrews. ELAH is Aramaic, "god." Elah appears in the Hebrew Bible in Jer. 10:11 (which is in Aramaic, and is plural, "gods"). In Daniel (the Aramaic sections) Elah is used both of pagan gods, and of the true God, also plural. Elah is equivalent to the Hebrew Eloah which some think is dual; Elohim is three or more. The gods of the nations are called "elohim." The origin of Eloah is obscure. Elohim is the more common plural form of El. Eloah is used 41 times in Job between 3:4 and 40:2, but fewer than 15 times elsewhere in the OT. See the Catholic Encyclopedia entry on Elohim.

ELOHIM: God (a plural noun, more than two, used with singular verbs); Elohim occurs 2,570 times in the OT, 32 times in Gen. 1. God as Creator, Preserver, Transcendent, Mighty and Strong. Eccl., Dan. Jonah use Elohim almost exclusively. See Gen. 17:7, 6:18, 9:15, 50:24; I Kings 8:23; Jer. 31:33; Isa. 40:1.

EL SHADDAI: God Almighty or "God All Sufficient." 48 times in the OT, 31 times in Job. First used in Gen. 17:1, 2. (Gen. 31:29, 49:24, 25; Prov. 3:27; Micah 2:1; Isa. 60:15, 16, 66:10-13; Ruth 1:20, 21) In Rev. 16:7, "Lord God the Almighty." The Septuagint uses Greek "ikanos" meaning "all-sufficient" or "self-sufficient." The idols of the heathen are called "sheddim."

ADONAI: Lord in our English Bibles (Capitol letter 'L ', lower case, 'ord') (Adonai is plural, the sing. is "adon"). "Master'' or "Lord" 300 times in the OT always plural when referring to God, when sing. the reference is to a human lord. Used 215 times to refer to men. First use of Adonai, Gen. 15:2. (Ex. 4:10; Judges 6:15; 2 Sam. 7:18-20; Ps. 8, 114:7, 135:5, 141:8, 109:21-28). Heavy use in Isaiah (Adonai Jehovah). 200 times by Ezekiel. Ten times in Dan. 9.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JEHOVAH: LORD in our English Bibles (all capitals). Yahweh is the covenant name of God. Occurs 6823 times in the OT First use Gen. 2:4 (Jehovah Elohim). From the verb "to be", havah, similar to chavah (to live), "The Self-Existent One," "I AM WHO I AM" or 'I WILL BE WHO I WILL BE" as revealed to Moses at the burning bush, Ex.3. The name of God, too sacred to be uttered, abbreviated ( . . . . ) or written "YHWH" without vowel points. The tetragrammaton. Josh., Judges, Sam., and Kings use Jehovah almost exclusively. The love of God is conditioned upon His moral and spiritual attributes. (Dan. 9:14; Ps. 11:7; Lev. 19:2; Hab. 1:12). Note Deut. 6:4, 5 known to Jews as the Sh'ma uses both Jehovah and Elohim to indicate one God with a plurality of persons.

JEHOVAH-JIREH: "The Lord will Provide." Gen. 22:14. From "jireh" ("to see" or "to provide," or to "foresee" as a prophet.) God always provides, adequate when the times come.

JEHOVAH-ROPHE: "The Lord Who Heals" Ex. 15:22-26. From "rophe" ("to heal"); implies spiritual, emotional as well as physical healing. (Jer. 30:17, 3:22; Isa. 61:1) God heals body, soul and spirit; all levels of man's being.

JEHOVAH-NISSI: "The Lord Our Banner." Ex. 1:15. God on the battlefield, from word which means "to glisten," "to lift up," See Psa. 4:6.

JEHOVAH-M'KADDESH: "The Lord Who Sanctifies" Lev. 20:8. "To make whole, set apart for holiness."

JEHOVAH-SHALOM: "The Lord Our Peace" Judges 6:24. "Shalom" translated "peace" 170 times means "whole," "finished," "fulfilled," "perfected." Related to "well," welfare." Deut. 27:6; Dan. 5:26; I Kings 9:25 8:61; Gen. 15:16; Ex. 21:34, 22:5, 6; Lev. 7:11-21. Shalom means that kind of peace that results from being a whole person in right relationship to God and to one's fellow man.

SHEPHERD Psa. 23, 79:13, 95:7, 80:1, 100:3; Gen. 49:24; Isa. 40:11.

JUDGE: Psa. 7:18, 96:13.

JEHOVAH ELOHIM: "LORD God" Gen. 2:4; Judges 5:3; Isa. 17:6; Zeph. 2:9; Psa. 59:5, etc.

JEHOVAH-TSIDKENU: "The Lord Our Righteousness" Jer. 23:5, 6, 33:16. From "tsidek" (straight, stiff, balanced - as on scales - full weight, justice, right, righteous, declared innocent.) The God Who is our righteousness.

JEHOVAH-ROHI: "The Lord Our Shepherd" Psa. 23, from "ro'eh" (to pasture).

JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH: "The Lord is There" (Ezek. 48:35).

JEHOVAH-SABAOTH: "The Lord of Hosts" The commander of the angelic host and the armies of God. Isa. 1:24; Psa. 46:7, 11; 2 Kings 3:9-12; Jer. 11:20 (NT: Rom. 9:29; James 5:24, Rev. 19: 11-16).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EL ELYON: 'Most High" (from "to go up") Deut. 26:19, 32:8; Psa. 18:13; Gen. 14:18; Nu. 24:16; Psa. 78:35, 7:17, 18:13, 97:9, 56:2, 78:56, 18:13; Dan. 7:25, 27; Isa. 14:14.

YESHA: (Y'shua) "Savior" Isa. 43:3. Jesus is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew "Joshua." The latter is a contraction of Je-Hoshua. ("Christ", the anointed one is equivalent to the Hebrew Maschiah, or Messiah).

GAOL: "Redeemer" (to buy back by paying a price). Job 19:25; For example, the antitype corresponding to Boaz the Kinsman-Redeemer in the Book of Ruth.

MAGEN: "Shield" Psa. 3:3, 18:30.

EYALUTH: "Strength" Psa. 22:19.

TSADDIQ: "Righteous One" Psa. 7:9.

THE FIRST AND LAST: Isa. 44:6, 48:12.

New Testament Scriptures, (Greek):
KURIOS: "Lord" Found some 600 times in the NT.

DESPOTES: "Lord" 5 times: Lu. 2:29; Acts 4:24; 2 Pet. 2:1; Jude 4; Rev. 6:10.

THEOS: "God" (equivalent to the Hebrew Elohim), 1,000 times in the NT. In the NT all the persons of the trinity are called "God" at one time or another.

I AM: Jesus upset his generation especially when He said, "Before Abraham was, I AM," John 8:58. Note also his claim to be Jehovah in such phrases as "I AM the Light of the world," "the bread of life," living water," "the Resurrection and the Life," "the Way, Truth and the Life" in John's Gospel. From the Hebrew OT verb "to be" signifying a Living, Intelligent, Personal Being.

Other NT Titles for Jesus: Shepherd of the Sheep; Master; King of kings; Lord of lords; Bishop and Guardian of our Souls; Daystar, Deliverer, Advocate, Second Adam, Ancient of Days, Branch, Chief Cornerstone, Immanuel, First Born, Head of the Body, Physician, Rock, Root of Jesse, Stone, Potentate; Chief Apostle; Great High Priest; Pioneer and Perfecter of our Faith (or Author and Finisher); Lamb of God; Lamb Slain before the Foundation of the World; Lord God Almighty.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOGOS: "The Word of God" John l; Rev. 19:13.

SOPHIA: "The Wisdom of God," referring to Christ, refers back to Proverbs (I Cor. 1,2)

Father, Son, Holy Spirit: Christian orthodoxy has always understood God to be One God in Three Persons (Elohim). In The NT each person of the godhead is called "God" and "Lord" at least once.

Names for the Holy Spirit: Counselor; Comforter; Baptiser; Advocate; Strengthener; Sanctifier; Spirit of Christ (not the same as the spirit of Christ); Seven-Fold Spirit (Rev.); Spirit of Truth; Spirit of Grace; Spirit of Mercy; Spirit of God; Spirit of Holiness; Spirit of Life. Symbolized in OT and NT by (l) breath or wind; (2) fire; (3) water; (4) oil; (5) light; (6) a dove.

The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ: Most Study Bibles have notes which give references to the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here is what the Scofield Study Bible Notes say:

(1) In the intimations and explicit predictions of the O.T. (a) The theophanies intimate the appearance of God in human form, and His ministry thus to man (Gen. 16:7-13; 18:2-23. especially v. 17; 32. 28 with Hos. 12:3-5; Ex. 3:2-14). (b) The Messiah is expressly declared to be the Son of God (Psa. 2:2-9), and God (Psa. 45:6, 7 with Heb. 1:8,9; Psa. 110. with Mt. 22:44; Acts 2:34 and Heb. 1:13; Psa. 110.4 with Heb. 5:6; 6. 20:7. 17-21; and Zech. 6:13). (c) His virgin birth was foretold as the means through which God could be "Immanuel," God with us (Isa. 7:13, 14 with Mt. 1:22, 23). (d) The Messiah is expressly invested with the divine names (Isa. 9:6, 7). (e) In a prophecy of His death He is called Jehovah's "fellow" (Zech. 13:7 with Mt. 26:31). (f) His eternal being is declared (Mic. 5:2 with Mt. 2:6; John 7:42).

(2) Christ Himself affirmed His deity. (a) He applied to Himself the Jeho-vistic I AM. (The pronoun "he" is not in the Greek; cf. John 8:24; John 8:56-58. The Jews correctly understood this to be our Lord's claim to full deity [v. 59]. See, also, John 10:33; 18:4-6, where, also "he" is not in the original.) (b) He claimed to be the Adonai of the O.T. (Mt. 22:42-45. See Gen. 15:2, note). (c) He asserted His identity with the Father (Mt. 28:19; Mk. 14:62; John 10:30; that the Jews so understood Him is shown by vs. 31, 32; John 14:8, 9; 17. 5). (d) He exercised the chief prerogative of God (Mk. 2:5-7; Lk. 7:48-50). (e) He asserted omnipresence (Mt. 18:20; John 3:13); omniscience (John 11:11-14, when Jesus was fifty miles away; Mk. 11:6-8); omnipotence (Mt. 28:18; Lk. 7:14; John 5:21-23; 6. is); mastery over nature, and creative power (Lk. 9:16. 17; John 2:9, 10:28). (f) He received and approved human worship (Mt. 14:33; 28: 9, John 20: 28, 29).

(3) The N.T. writers ascribe divine titles to Christ (John 1:1; 20. 28; Acts 20:28; Rom. 1:4; 9:5; 2 Thess. 1:12; 1 Tim. 3:16; Tit. 2:23; Heb. 1:8; 1 John 5:20).

(4) The N.T. writers ascribe divine perfections and attributes to Christ (e.g. Mt. 11:28; 18:20, 28:20; John 1:2, 2:23-25; 3:13; 5:17; 21:17; Heb. 1:3, 11, 12 with Heb. 13:8; Rev. 1:8,17,18; 2:23; 11. 17; 22:13).

(5) The N.T. writers ascribe divine works to Christ (John 1:3. 16:17, Col. 1:16, 17; Heb. 1:3).

(6) The N.T. writers teach that supreme worship should be paid to Christ (Acts 7:59, 60; 1 Cor. 1:2; 2 Cor. 13:14, Phil. 2:9, 10; Heb. 1:6; Rev. 1:5, 6; 5. 12, 13).

(7) The holiness and resurrection of Christ prove His deity (John 8:46; Rom. 1:4).

Philippians 2 is the great Chapter on the kenosis or self-emptying of the Lord Jesus Christ when He became a man. His equality with the Father as the Son of God is stated here.

Note also John 5:18 "This was why the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God."

A well-known NT passage is Romans 9:5 "...to them (the Jewish race) belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Messiah (who is) God who is over all, blessed for ever. Amen."

I have a friend from Puerto Rico, his parents named him Enrica, he was introduced to me as Henry, he answers to Henry, it was several years before I found out any difference, to him it doesn't matter, neithe does it matter to GOD.

Joseph and Mary named HIM Yahushua, "most experts" are in agreement on this:
they also agree that when Mary went to the door to call HIM in to supper, she called out for Yashua, but they can't agree how to spell Yashua/Yeshua/Y-shua/etc.

My parents gave me a six letter first name, most of my family call me a three letter name.

First and foremost thunder7 i have post along side you and have [on this board] fellowshipped with you some time and i feel i know your love for the Messiah!

I work with a man from mexico named Juan; we dont call him John.

A frenchman name Jean we dont call him John.

If you feel strongly about the name of Yahushua or Yahshua; why would you call His name Jesus in Public?

That would be a retorical question that you have to answer before YHWH Brother.

i gave reasons why i use the name YaHWeH and Yahushua.

I was not decreeing cannon law to anyone.

The main "posters" on this board seem to want "warm fuzzy" posts. Lint does not sharpen lint; but Iron does sharpen Iron.

Proverbs 27:17
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Most of this is not directed at you Thunder dear Brother but, i did not call into question anyones salvation, i explained as feebly as i could how is see things in scripture.

If you "fully" discuss and disclose something different esp. much different that the norm, people are offended; and i really dont know why.

in not ever gonna be a "warm fuzzy" type poster, my heart is not to offend but to play hard ball and get to the truth.

Brother Drew threw a wrench into much of what i was seeing with only one scripture; rev 20; and im still reconsidering many thoughts, scriptures and prayers according to this matter:

When even one scripture does not line up [to me], im either wrong, partially wrong, or the scriptures interpetation must be scrutinized and interpeted with other scriptures that might shed more light on the subject......The word of YHWH does not contradict itself at all.

Like i satated many times, im serious about this learning and studying, and anyone ought to be thrilled to look at new scriptures, perhaps not seen with the light of other scriptures helping to interpret....Don't get me wrong tho; im not meaning being led by every wind of doctrine; and not earnestly contending for the faith...

Modern "religion" gets worse every year, and more deception, lying spirits and the like are on the increase...........

things that some have said here are hurtful and out of line, im a big boy and dont mind, but the "little" ones that stop by could be caught up in the middle of "foolishness" and thats not good.

Simply if what any of us "believe" and see in scripture should be allowed to be chalenged and we should not get upset at that challange for if we are "right" about how we see a doctrine, it will prove out in scripture, and if it does not::WE NEED TO CHANGE. [im preachin at me now].

Please don't leave p.i.p. This is a debate forum, and people come here from all different backgrounds. Sometimes the debates get a little rowdy, but they seldom become outright mean anymore. (We used to have some mean people here.) Anyway, cults and false teaching are not tolerated, but differences of interpretation are.

Don't leave, okay?

Hello Betty,

I hope I have not become your enemy.

"I think you joined this board to cause trouble. You disagree with everyone except for your friend Plank, who probably attends the same Church you go to.

Where does that idea come from?
I call my savior Jesus like you.
And I think Barry agrees with you as far as the whole Sabbath thing.
I'm not here to cause any division. Unless stating my beliefs in a loving way causes division. Just because we have different beliefs in some areas does not mean we have to start drawing lines in the sand and picking teams.

Would it make you more comfortable if everyone who doesn't believe exactly like you left the board?

I will leave if i'm seen as someone who is out to cause division.

Peace

El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai [means "God Almighty, God Almighty"]
El-Elyon na Adonai [means "God in the highest, Oh, Lord"]
Age to age, You're still the same
By the power of the name.
El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai
Erkamka na Adonai [means "We will love You, Oh, Lord"]
We will praise and lift You high
El-Shaddai

Through Your love
And through the ram,
You saved the son
Of Abraham.
Through the power
Of Your hand,
Turned the sea
Into dry land.
To the outcast
On her knees,
You were the God
Who really sees.
And by Your might,
You set Your children free.

[Chorus]

Through the years,
You made it clear,
That the time of Christ
Was near,
Though the people
Couldn't see
What Messiah ought to be.
Though Your Word
Contained the plan,
They just could not understand,
Your most awesome work was done
Though the frailty of Your son.

[Chorus]

God bless you;

Amen Carol!!!!

The New Testament was written in Greek, and so the name of the Lamb of God, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah my Lord and my God would have been written in the original manuscripts as Ιησους(Iēsoûs) Χριστος(Christós), read in the early Church.

Would the name be translated differently in Swahili, Chinese, Tag-a-Log, Arabic, etc.?

I also often use the word YHWH, and especially when speaking to those who deny the deity of Jesus Christ, then I speak of YHWH manifest in the flesh. Why is it necessary to place the vowels in the name of YHWH when we are writing it and not speaking it?

I have no problem with those who use the name of Yashua Ha'Masheach, but in your use of the Hebrew vernacular DO NOT let pride and self-righteousness cause you to look down your nose or to "ding" those who honor and praise the name of Jesus the Messiah.

Meaning of the name JESUS

Jesus, the name above all names, and at which in the future judgment every knee shall bow to (Phi 2:10);

Jesus, the only name given under heaven among men whereby we must all be saved (Acts 4:12);

Jesus, the name into which converts are baptized to receive remission of sins (Acts 2:38);

Much has been written about Jesus but little exists about his name. What you find in most dictionaries is false or misleading. Men who call themselves scholars are no more knowledgeable about the name Jesus then they are about his salvation. For the most part they quote what someone else has said about the name referring back to a name supposed to be Hebrew. The time has come that someone must open up the truth about the greatest name of God ever revealed to the human ear. The reason this is now so necessary, is because there are many gainsayers now spreading the lie that the name of Jesus is false.

Jesus:

The name Jesus is spelled IESUS in the 1611 King James Version of the Bible. It was not spelled with the letter "J" because this letter form did not exist until a curved tail was put on the letter "I" to form the new letter J.

 -

The letter "I" was changed into the letter "J" forming a new letter. The sound of the new letter is "Ja" having the soft "g" sound whereas the letter "G" has the Ga sound. There is a distinction between the sound of the letters "J" and "G" although at times they may sound alike.

It has been alleged by some that the letter "J" did not exist before the 16th century and this means the sound of the letter did not exist either. This is false. It is not true. To claim the sound of the letter "J" did not exist until the alphabet letter was created from the letter "I" is simply a lie.

The sound now attributed to the letter "J" was "one" of three sounds that the letter "I" could stand for. All that happened when the letter "J" was formed was to separate the sound from the letter "I" and give it, its own alphabet character. Thus, in many words or names where the letter "I" had the "J" sound, the new letter stood in the place where the letter "I" once stood. There was no evil in this and no plot by Gutenburg or anyone else to profane the alphabet, words, or names as they are now spelled using the new letter "J."

It is scholarly falsehood for anyone to say the sound associated with the letter "J" did not exist until the letter was created from the letter "I." The sound of the letter "J" was always resident in the letter "I", thus those skilled in lingusitics and alphabet letters would know why the letter "J" was invented from the letter "I" and not some other letter.

If anyone claims the "sound" of the letter "J" did not exist prior to the creation of the alphabet character, they are wrong. Look at this picture of the Egyptian language 2,000BC and you will see the sound of the letter "J" existed:

It is a falsehood for anyone to claim the letter "J" and its sound did not exist until the 16th century. Many of our letter sounds come down to us from the Egyptian and Phoenician languages. These are the two root sources of ancient Paleo Hebrew, Greek, and other languages. The letter "I" in all cases represented the sound of the following letters"

"I" as in Israel;
"Y" as in Yisrael;
"J" as in Jezreel.

It is to be noted that when the letter "I" was followed by a consonant it had the "I" sound as in "Israel." And when the letter "I" was followed by a vowel it had the "J" sound. The "Y" sound atributed to the letter can only be sounded when it also is followed by a vowel. It may be a matter of choice to say "Is-rael or Yis-rael." But to claim there was no sound of the letter "J" associated with this ancient letter is false.

It is now the custom of those trying to destroy the name of Jesus to lie about the letter "J" and the sound associated with it. To claim all cases where the letter "J" now stands in the Bible should be corrected to the letter "Y" and given the "ya" or "ye" sounds is wrong. The only reason for this perversion is to attack and destroy the name of JESUS!

When it is alleged the letter "J" and its sound did not exist prior to the 16th century there is then an attempt to corrupt the name JESUS into something like Yahshua or Yeshua. While the letter "I" is changed from "J" into "Y" it still represents the same person, the Messieh and King of Israel. Why was the letter "J" not changed back into the letter "I" as it is found in the ancient alphabets and given that sound in the name of JESUS? Jesus was spelled "IESUS" in the 1611 King James Version. If the letter "I" here did not have the "J" sound, how would we say IESUS except then I-ESUS. The fact is the letter "I" was to be articulated with the vowel "e" this "IE" was to be spoken together. We either correctly give the letter "I" its "J" sound as it originally had or it would take on the "ee" sound and we would have EE-SUS. In many Greek transliterations this is incorrectly done with "IESOUS." It is assumed the letter "I" with the vowel "e" should be articulated as "ee-sous" and this is false. Why? Because "IESOUS" is a Jewish name and not a Greek name and should be pronounced in Aramaic or Hebrew not Greek. That is the fallacy of so many supposed language experts. They try to take a foreign name and sound it out in the language it has come into. The name "IESOUS" in Greek is a Jewish name and should be pronounced with the Jewish language in mind to obtain the correct sounding.

Since there is no one living who knows exactly how a word or name was pronounced, it is a fruitless argument to claim the letter "J" sounds like a "Y" or that the letter "I" sounds like "ee" as it is made in the Greek. There may be hundreds of years of incorrectly pronouncing a letter form, word, or name, as is done with the Spanish for Jesus, where it is pronounced Hey-sous. This is incorrect and no matter how hard a person tries, the letter "I" in Paleo-Hebrew, Latin, or Greek cannot come out with the "H" sound. There is a polution of the sound in this one case. Under what conditions did the letter "I" take on the "Hey" sound?

It is incorrect then to say the name Jesus, spelled with the letter "J" is false. To claim this is false because the letter "I" should have the "Y" sound frustrates matters just as bad as the claim against the letter "J". Because there is no letter "Y" in the Paleo-Hebrew nor a letter for "W." The sound of "Y" is confessed to be included in the letter "I" and the letter "W" must be confessed was originally a "Vaw." How then can those who attack the name of Jesus then present to us the names "Yahweh and Yahshua" when both of these guess names contain letters and letter sounds not found according to their rule in the Paleo-Hebrew alphabet?

Now what does the name of Jesus mean and is there a more accurate spelling in Hebrew?

First, the name Jesus in English is the same as Iesous in Greek when it is understood the "I" has a "J" sound because the name Iesous is a Hebrew name and should be so pronounced. So in English we have Jesus and in Greek we have Jesous, the letter "I" correctly having the "J" sound.

The name Jesus is derived from two words:

Salvation=Hebrew Strong's 3468-"yesha, yeh-shah. Please notice how the "h" is treated as silent and not used in "yesha". This happens a lot in Jewish names and words, the "h" is often dropped. In this case, "yesha" is the rendering of Strong and other Scholars. Now since there is no "y" in Paleo-Hebrew, only the letter "I" or "Iod" the Greek "iota" the word spelled "yesha" should be "Iesha." This is returning the "yod" back to its parent "iod." Here is where the name Jesus begins to take its form. Since the letter "I" can also have the sounds of "Y" and "J" we apply the rule of grammar that when the "I" is followed by a vowel it is pronounded as a "J." When the "I" is followed by a consonant it is pronounced as an "I" as in Israel. Since the letter "I" is followed by the consonant "s" it has the "I" sound. With this rule of grammar, the "Y" in "yesha" is returned to an "I" and then correctly into the present letter "J" that has the soft "g" sound in Paleo-Hebrew. Thus, "Yesha" correctly becomes "Jesha." It is necessary to add an "s" at the end for syntax and masculinity. Thus, Jesha(s), and this is pronounced "Je-shahs, which is exactly the same as saying JESUS! What does this name mean? It means salvation.

There is another factor that must be examined and accepted concerning the name Jesus: that is, the first three letters of "Yesha" is correctly "YEH" or "JEH". We have already found that "Yesha" is also "Yeshas" and at the same time "Jeshas." We now discover going back that "Yesha" is the same as "YEH-SHAH" and when the "s" is added to this for syntax and masculinity we have "Yeh-shahs and then Jeh-shahs."

Now where does "Yeh" or "Jeh" come from and what does it signify?

The first place we discover the "Jeh" used with a name is in Numbers 12:16:

These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun JEHOSHUA.

Note this carefully: Joshua's name was at the first "Oshea." Moses added three letters to the front of "Oshea" and formed a new name "Jeh-Oshea" or as changed "Jeh-oshua." Notice the error of changing the letter "e" into a "u." Now the name "Oshea" is "How-shea" Strong's #1954 and means "deliverer." Oshea did not deliver Israel from Egypt. He did not deliver the Ten Commandments or other Laws of God. In fact, he fullfilled his name as "deliverer" when he took the people of Israel across the Jordan river over into the promised land. Oshea, delivered the people safe into the land of their inheritance. This very "deliverance" would be applied to Jesus who would deliver his people from their sins over into the Kingdom of God, the inheritance of all the children of light. So the name "Oshea" has an affinity to the name of Jesus. Now when we add the three letters "Yeh" or "Jeh" to Oshea, we have the new name "Jehoshua." When this is Greecianized the "eh" is dropped between the "J" and the "o." This is really a falsehood. Why? Because the removal of "eh" from the letter "J" profanes the name "Jeh-Oshea" by removing the contraction of the name of God. The name of God? Yes! The letters "Yeh or Jeh" are a contraction of the divine name given to Moses at the burning bush. What was that divine name? It was "Ehjeh asher Ehjeh." The saced name given to Moses at the buring bush by which Moses would deliver the people of Israel from Egyptian bondage was "EHJEH." This name was contracted down to the three letters "Jeh." These three letters are the prefix to several Old Testament names: Jehucal, Jehud, Jehudi, Jehudiajah, Jehush,, Jehiel, Jehieli, Jehizkiah, Jehoadah, Jehoaddan, Jehoahas, Jehoash, Jehohannan, Jehoiachin, Jehoiachin's Jehoiada, Jehoiakim, Jehoiarib, Jehonadabn, Jehonathan, Jehoram, Jehoshabeath, Jehoshaphat, Jehosheba, Jehoshua, Jehovah, Jehozabad, Jehozadak, Jehu, Jehubbah.

Here is the revelation as Moses saw it. He added "Jeh" to the name of Oshea and took these three letters from the sacred name "Ehjeh asher Ehjeh." These three letters were added to many other names.

We see now that in the name of Jesus in the Greek as Iesous, it is really Iehsous. Thus Ieh becomes corrected to Jeh the very first three letters in the name of Jehoshua. Now what does Jeh signify in the name of Jehsus? It means the God of the burning bush, the God of deliverance. Thus scholars who know this will say the name of Jesus means God has become salvation, or God is salvation.

Moses

The name "Moses" strikes us as the identity of one of the greatest men in ancient monotheistic history. His name is known by little children in the story of the mother and father who hid their little son to keep the wicked Pharoah from having him aborted, ...killed at birth. They hid him in the flags (bulrushes). Now the name flags is another name for papyrus pap-yrus (pap-irus) with the "us" having some connection with that which grows in water.

As can be seen to the left, the Egyptian word for water is "mu." And when the daughter of Pharoah took Moses out of the water she called him in the Egyptian language "MOUSES" or as later Grecianized "Moseus" and finally as "Moses." We are told by ancient authorities that the name Moses means just as I have described with "Mo" meaning "water" and "Uses" meaning he who is saved by water. Moseus is more accurately Museus when we convert the Mo back to Mu. If we drop the "M" and replace this with a "J" we would have Juseus and this is remarkable since Moses prophecied that another would come like unto him and he the people were to follow or be destroyed. We can see that "Mo" is accurately taken from the Egyptian "mu" and we shall make all the authorities who claim expertise in ancient linguistics to deny that "uses" is the correct ancient articulation of "ses or sus." I will here quote one of the recognized ancient authorities on the antiquity of the Jews:

"Hereupon it was that Thermuthis (Pharoah's daughter) imposed this name Mouses upon him, from what had happened when he was put into the river; for the Egyptians call water by the name of Mo, and such as are saved out of it, by the name of Uses: so by putting these two words together, they imposed this name upon him. And he was, by the confession of all, according to God's prediction, as well for his greatness of mind as for his contempt of difficulties, the best of all the Hebrews, for Abraham was his ancestor of the seventh generation" (Josephus, Antiquities, Book II, Chapter 9, Paragraph 6).

It it obvious to any person of rational mind that we have here a great testimony to the name of Jesus that it did not derive from the name of any pagan god but its parts and its meaning come from a far ancient antiquity. When it is properly understood that "Je" is the abbreviation of "YEH" or "JEH" the sacred name of God at the burning bush, and that "Uses or Usus" (these are the same), we have in the name of Jesus a very powerful new identity as the "GOD WHO SAVES BY WATER." So the name of Jesus in a shortened meaning would be simply Saviour! In the very name of Jesus we have the authority of our New Testament water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).

Trust now in the name of Jesus and believe upon it for your salvation. Do not recant his holy name and do not let others deceive you that it is a false name.

Read the post Brother wildb:

Sister Betty

The King James Auth Version of 1611 did not have the Name Jesus no where in it. The name there was

Lately, I have noticed that there are many using the form "Yahuah" or "Yahuwah" based on the fact that the name יהודה "Yahudah/Yehudah" (Judah) contains the same letters as with the exception of the ד Daleth (D) being added (Hebrew reads from right to left). In other words, Yahweh's name contains (Yod Heh Waw Heh) and the name of one of the sons of Israel (Judah) is יהודה (Yod Heh Waw Daleth Heh.)

They say that the Heavenly Father's name can be "made simple" by learning that since there is only one letter difference between the two names, we can learn the pronunciation of the Heavenly Father's name by looking at how Judah's name is pronounced in Hebrew.

But the truth is, we cannot determine the pronunciation of one Hebrew word by looking at how another word is pronounced with similar letters. In Hebrew there are numerous words that have only one letter difference but they are pronounced completely different.

A couple of examples in Hebrew as it relates to Yahweh's name:

יהצה #3096 is pronounced "Yatsah" in Hebrew. This is in contrast to יהודה "Yahudah" which is only one letter different.

The verb Hama (#1993) is found in Jer. 6:23, 48:36, 50:42 in the qal imperfect 3rd person masculine singular form, and is spelled יהמה but pronounced "Yehemeh." Again, this is in contrast to יהודה "Yahudah" which is only one letter different.

Notice that there is only is only letter difference between those words and and יהודה but they have vowels which are not the same. If we removed vowels from two English words that had similar consonants, no one would argue that we can figure out the vowels of one by knowing the vowels of another.

If the "Yahu" in "Yahudah" is in reference to Yahueh/Yahweh (and this is not certain), the "dah" comes from a different Hebrew word, so we can't rely that to arrive at the correct pronunciation of .

In fact, there are examples in Hebrew where two completely different words are spelled exactly the same way, but are pronounced completely different. The word שאול, which is pronounced "Shaul" (King Saul's name) is spelled exactly the same as the word שאול, pronounced "Sheol." "Shaul" means "desired" but "Sheol" means "grave." The vowels are completely different, but the word is spelled the same.

The reason why Yahweh's name is upon His people is not because "Yahudah" contains part of Yahweh's name as some claim. Yahweh's people are called by His name because of the elements seen in the priestly blessing:

Numbers 6:24-27 Yahweh bless you and keep you; 25 Yahweh make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; 26 Yahweh lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace." ' 27 "So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them."

So in conclusion, to base the pronunciation of the Heavenly Father's name on how another name or word is pronounced is not sound reasoning and should be completely disregarded when seeking to understand how is pronounced.

Also, it is important to understand that in Hebrew, the verb form determines how the vowels sound. This is not unlike English where the verb "Run" changes to "Ran" if past tense is intended and "Running" if present tense is intended. In Hebrew, the vowels sounds will change depending on whether it is 1st, 2nd or 3rd person, or whether it is masculine or feminine, etc.

In Exodus 3:14 Yahweh said to tell the people of Israel that His name is "I AM THAT I AM" or "Ehyeh asher ehyeh." We know that "ehyeh" is the way you pronounce "Hayah" (a verb meaning, "to be") in the first person form.

Why then did He say to call Him "Yahweh" in Exodus 3:15? The form "Yahweh" is the 3rd person form of the same Hebrew verb, "Hayah." Yahweh was declaring who He is in saying "I AM" ("ehyeh") but when we say "Yahweh" we speak of Him in the 3rd person form.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Jesus The Sweetest Name I Know
(He Keeps Me Singing)
by
Luther B. Bridgers 1911

There's within my heart a melody
Jesus whispers sweet and low:
Fear not I am with thee, peace be still,
In all of life's ebb and flow.

Chorus:
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,
Sweetest name I know,
Fills my every longing,
Keeps me singing as I go.

All my life was wrecked by sin and strife,
Discord filled my heart with pain,
Jesus swept across the broken strings,
Stirred the slumbring chords again.

Feasting on the riches of His grace,
Resting neath His sheltering wing,
Always looking on His smiling face,
That is why I shout and sing.

Though sometimes He leads through waters deep,
Trials fall across the way,
Though sometimes the path seems rough and steep,
See His footprints all the way.

Soon He's coming back to welcome me
Far beyond the starry sky;
I shall wing my flight to worlds unknown,
I shall reign with Him on high.

Luk 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Stated by wildb:

rightfully divide the Word of truth Brother barry.
Brother i have shown not a few scriptures above with loads of references to show why i see the name of the Father as YaHWeH and His son as Yahushua [which means YaHWEH (YaH) is Salvation.

you have not posted a SINGLE scripture nor any references to disprove how is see myFather's name and the name of His dear Son my Saviour Yahushua.

How would that not be rightly dividing the word of truth?

Once again sir you do err.

i was ask what is God's name:

What is HIS SONS name?

This is why i call my Father YaHWeH; and His Son Yahushua:

Scriptural Definition of the word "Name"
This will prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the word "Name" not only means "character and reputation" but also a literal written and spoken name.

This is the definition of the Hebrew word "shem" which is translated as "name" all throughout scripture

Strong's # 8034 Shem; a primitive word [perhaps rather from 7760 through the idea of definite and conspicuous position; compare 8064]; an appellation, AS A MARK or memorial of individuality; by implication honor, authority, character: - + base, [in-] fame[-ous], name[-d], renown, report.

As you can see from the above definition, Yahweh's name not only represents His character but the Name Yahweh is also HIS MARK! What is a mark but something that is written? The Name YAHWEH also is His memorial of individuality. This definition goes hand in hand with scripture:

Exodus 3:15 (KJV) And Elohim said moreover to Moses, Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel, YAHWEH Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, hath sent me to you: this [is] my name for ever, and this [is] my memorial to all generations.

Man has set up many memorials for himself such as "The Unknown Soldier" or "The Wall" for instance. Can you imagine the punishment one would recieve if someone had gone up and destroyed one of these memorials? Now if we wouldn't desecrate one of man's memorials, then why would anyone want to desecrate Yahweh's Memorial - His Name!? We do not have the right to change His name to whatever we want to call Him.

The Meaning of the Tetragrammaton

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is four Hebrew letters (Yod, He, Waw and He) called the "Tetragrammaton". The four characters are the four Hebrew letters that correspond to YHWH and are transliterated IAUE or Yahweh. Yahweh is the name of the Almighty Father in Heaven that people commonly call "The LORD" or "God". The reason we see "LORD" and "God" in our bibles is because of a Jewish tradition that the name Yahweh was not to be spoken for fear that the name be blasphemed. However, the scriptures declare that His name should be exalted (e.g. Ps 68:4) and the third commandment forbids this practice. The Preface of some bibles will admit why they change His name. Nearly all will cite tradition and familiarity as the reason. This, I believe is wrong. Sometimes people pronounce the tetragrammaton as "Jehovah". But Jehovah could never be the right pronunciation. On this web site, the name of Yahweh is used in reference to the Heavenly Father because in the scriptures we are told to praise, exalt, bless, love, teach, preach, anoint, assemble, believe, give thanks, honor and call on His name.

The Tetragrammaton has been found in the 2000 year old Dead Sea Scrolls and in ancient copies of the Septuagint

The Third Commandment: What does it mean?

Many take the third commandment to mean that we should not use the Heavenly Father's name alongside a swear word or profanity. I could see where it certainly might mean this. Others say that taking His name on our lips while living a life of sin is another way of taking His name in vain. I agree with this also.

However, I have found that the third commandment means much more than this. Replacing the Heavenly Father's name with a title of our own choosing such as "the LORD", "GOD", "Adonai", or "Ha Shem" is another way of taking His name in vain. Let's look at the third commandment as written in the King James Bible:

Deuteronomy 5:11 "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold [him] guiltless that taketh his name in vain."

If we examine this verse in the Hebrew text that the King James Bible was translated from, we would not find "The LORD" or any word that carries such a meaning. What is actually there is the Heavenly Father's true name, "Yahweh". I believe it is important to consider whether or not this tradition is something the Heavenly Father would desire us to follow.

Let's take a moment and look at the Webster's dictionary definition of the word "vain":

vain 1. Having no real substance, value, or importance; empty; void; worthless; unsatisfying. ``Thy vain excuse.'' ... 2. Destitute of forge or efficacy; effecting no purpose; fruitless; ineffectual; as, vain toil; a vain attempt. ...

Considering the meaning of the word 'vain', what greater way to bring Yahweh's name to emptiness, worthlessness, and having no real substance, value or purpose than to remove His name altogether from scripture and substitute it with a title of our own choosing?

Those who have chosen to practice this are doing just that. This practice is so widespread and so complete that few people even know the Heavenly Father has a personal name. Yahweh chose to place His name in scripture nearly 7,000 times. And each one of those 7,000 times it is replaced with a title (such as "The LORD") in 99% of all translations. In fact, in most translations the third commandment (as written) is a transgression of itself! Why? Because the third commandment forbids bringing His name to nothing, yet most translations do just that.

To further demonstrate this point, let's look at the Hebrew word that is translated "vain" in this verse.

Deuteronomy 5:11 (KJV) Thou shalt not take the name of Yahweh thy Elohim in vain <7723>: for Yahweh will not hold [him] guiltless that taketh his name in vain <7723>.

The number after the word "vain" in this passage refers to Strong's word #7723 in the Hebrew Lexicon. This same Hebrew word (#7723 'Shav') can also be found in another commandment just a few verses later. But in this instance, it is translated differently:
Deuteronomy 5:20 (KJV) Neither shalt thou bear false <7723> witness against thy neighbour.

Here we have the same Hebrew word <7723> translated "false." Might this shed light on the third commandment as well? We know that to say that the name of the Heavenly Father is "The LORD" is actually a false statement. Most translations are full of false statements. For instance, the King James Version reads:
Isaiah 42:8 - I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

The above is not a true statement. His name is not "the LORD". His name is Yahweh. "The LORD" is not a translation of the original, it is a substitution of the original. The translators did not translate, they purposely substituted the true name of the Heavenly Father for something else so that they could follow their tradition. It should instead read:

Isaiah 42:8 (RNKJV) I am Yahweh: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

So if we want to keep the ten commandments, we should never replace Yahweh's name with a false name or title of our own choosing. Doing so would be breaking the third commandment. This is not the only way to break the third commandment, but we can see that it is certainly one way of doing so. We are not supposed to add or take away from the scriptures. But in doing this, man has chosen to both add and take away.
Yahweh considered it important enough to include something about His name in the Ten Commandments. He considered it important enough to include a warning that we would not be held "guiltless" if we choose to break it. Therefore, in spite of what others may think, let's keep His commandments by restoring what Yahweh placed there originally. Let's set aside vain tradition and walk in the original truth of Yahweh... just as He inspired it.

Commentary on Bible Prefaces

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before we begin it must be understood that our English bibles are not the original language in which scriptures were written. I sometimes talk to people who don't understand this very basic principle, but it is totally true. The King James Version was the first major translation into English and was created approximately 1600 years after Yahushua the Messiah came to earth.

Most all translations in various languages have chosen to replace the name "Yahweh" with another title or name of their choice, usually "the LORD" or "GOD" in all capital letters. The following is a commentary on the various prefaces and introductions which explain their reasoning for removing the Heavenly Father's name from English bibles. Let's start with the ever popular NIV...

New International Version - Preface

"In regard to the divine name YHWH, commonly referred to as the Tetragrammaton, the translators adopted the device used in most English versions...

This statement runs true in the majority of modern English translations. The primary reasoning for replacing the name of Yahweh with something else is 'tradition'. In other words, "As long as everyone else does it, it must be okay".

..of rendering that name as "LORD" in capital letters to distinguish it from adonai, another Hebrew word rendered "Lord" for which small letters are used.

We can see already that replacing the name "Yahweh" with "The LORD" presents a major problem. What do they do when there is a legitimate use of the title "Lord/Master" in the original text? It might be confusing to the reader as to whether it is speaking of a human lord/master or Yahweh.

So what to do? Their solution is to make the "Adonai" source in small letters and where the name of Yahweh exists, they'll put capital letters! In other words, if it reads "Adonai (lord/master)" In the original they will translate it as "lord" or "Lord". But if it says "Yahweh" in the original, they will render it as "LORD" in all capital letters. I doubt that half the people who read the scriptures even realizes they are doing this.

Wherever the two names stand together in the Old Testament as a compound name for God, they are rendered "Sovereign LORD.""

Now we see that a more complicated problem arises. There are instances in scripture that the Hebrew reads "Adonai Yahweh" or "Lord/Master Yahweh". If they were to put "Lord" where Yahweh exists in the original, they would have to translate the passage as "Lord the LORD"! So they translated it as "Sovereign LORD" to avoid confusion. Amazing what people will do to serve tradition and reject what Yahweh has placed in scripture!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today's English Version - Preface

Following an ancient tradition,

Again, tradition is the reason.

begun by the first translation of the Hebrew Scriptures (the Septuagint) and followed by the vast majority of English translations, the distinctive Hebrew name for God (usually transliterated Jehovah or Yahweh), is in this translation represented by "LORD." When Adonai, normally translated "Lord," occurs preposed to Yahweh, the combination is rendered by the phrase "Sovereign LORD."

So the "Today's English Version" uses the same renderings as the NIV. All on the basis of following the others.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Revised English Bible - Introduction to the Old Testament

The divine name (YHWH in Hebrew characters) was probably pronounced 'Yahweh',

One excuse some use for not keeping Yahweh's name in the text is that they aren't sure His name is really pronounced "Yahweh". But if a translator ever admitted that His name was definitely pronounced 'Yahweh' I'm sure they would have to answer for why they don't translate it as such. Not much motivation for seeking the truth? Maybe they really don't want to know that His name really is pronounced "Yahweh"?

but the name was regarded as ineffable, too sacred to be pronounced.

Yes, this was the doctrine that got this whole idea started. But Yahweh says:

Jere 10:25a Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name..

and...

Joel 2:32a And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the YAHWEH shall be delivered..

How can anyone call on His name if it is hidden away by superstitious doctrines?

The Massoretes, therefore, wrote in the vowel signs of the alternative words adonai ('Lord') or elohim ('God') to warn readers to use one of these in its place.

The Massoretes were who copied and preserved the Hebrew scriptures from scroll to scroll down through the ages. They added 'vowel signs/pointings' to the Hebrew text (which was primarily all consonants) so the language would be preserved. But when they came to the name of Yahweh, they inserted alternative vowel pointings so that the reader would not speak the name of Yahweh but say "adonai" (lord) instead. So we can see that through the ages, there has been a conspiracy to hide the name of Yahweh Almighty despite what Yahweh says in His word about how we should praise, exalt, bless, love, teach, preach, anoint, assemble, believe, give thanks, honor and call on His name.

Where the divine name occurs in the Hebrew text, this has been signalled in The Revised English Bible by using capital letters for 'LORD' or 'GOD', a widely accepted practice.

Since it is 'widely accepted', it must be truth and acceptable to do? Not according to Yahushua! He said the way to life is a narrow way.

Matt 7:14 (NKJV) "Because narrow [is] the gate and difficult [is] the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

American Standard Version - Preface

"I. The change first proposed in the Appendix --- that which substitutes "Jehovah" for "LORD" and "GOD" (printed in small capitals) --- is one which will be unwelcome by many, because of the frequency and familiarity of the terms displaced. But the American Revisers, after a careful consideration, were brought to the unanimous conviction that a Jewish superstition, which regarded the Divine Name as too sacred to be uttered, ought no longer to dominate in the English or any other version of the Old Testament, as it fortunately does not in the numerous versions made by modern missionaries.

Now with some reservation I would almost have to admire those who translated the American Standard 1901 version. They at least tried to restore some truth (even though they knew it would be unwelcome) and reject the ridiculous tradition of hiding and substituting the name of Yahweh from the common reader. But then as we read on...

This Memorial Name, explained in Ex. iii. 14,15 and emphasized as such over and over in the original text of the Old Testament, designates God as the Personal God, as the covenant God, the God of Revelation, the Deliverer, the Friend of his people; --- not merely the abstractly "Eternal One" of many French translations, but the ever living Helper of those who are in trouble. This personal name, with its wealth of sacred associations, is now restored to the place in the sacred text to which it has an unquestionable claim."

Sounds great so far! They can see that the scriptures do place importance on His name...over and over and over... But if you read the translation you will see that they insert the false "Jehovah" rendering that was used a total of 4 times in the King James Version! But most every scholar knows that "Jehovah" is a falsification of Yahweh's name! Click here for more information on this!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Revised Standard Version - Preface

Now here is the preface that really bothers me the most.

"A major departure from the practice of the American Standard Version is the rendering of the Divine Name, the "Tetragrammaton."

The Revised Standard Version translators have chosen not only to depart from the practice of the ASV translators but to berate them as well. It is in one way justified in that the ASV chose the name "Jehovah" instead of "Yahweh".

The American Standard Version used the term "Jehovah"; the King James Version had employed this in four places, but everywhere else, except in three cases where it was employed as part of a proper name, used the English word LORD (or in certain cases GOD) printed in capitals. The present revision returns to the procedure of the King James Version, which follows the precedent of the ancient Greek and Latin translators and the long established practice in the reading of the Hebrew scriptures in the synagogue.

So here we go with this 'long standing tradition' routine again. I'm not sure why they cannot see where Yahushua told the scribes and Pharisees on various occasions:

Mark 7:9 He said to them, "All too well you reject the commandment of Yahweh, that you may keep your tradition.

While it is almost if not quite certain that the Name was originally pronounced "Yahweh",

Again, they wouldn't dare admit that they are totally certain. However it is totally certain that His name is not pronounced "The Lord".

(While it is almost if not quite certain that the Name was originally pronounced "Yahweh",)..this pronunciation was not indicated when the Masoretes added vowel signs to the consonantal Hebrew text.

Of course not, they favored tradition over commandments!

To the four consonants YHWH of the Name, which had come to be regarded as too sacred to be pronounced, they attached vowel signs indicating that in its place should be read the Hebrew word Adonai meaning "Lord" (or Elohim meaning "God"). The ancient Greek translators substituted the word Kyrios (Lord) for the Name. The Vulgate likewise used the Latin word Dominus. The form "Jehovah" is of late medieval origin; it is a combination of the consonants of the Divine Name and the vowels attached to it by the Masoretes but belonging to an entirely different word. The sound of Y is represented by J and the sound of W by V, as in Latin.

They even share how this idea of substituting His name got started. It amazes me that some will follow the Jewish tradition that breaks the commandment of Yahweh but they'll ignore the Jew's examples of where they actually do keep the Torah/Law of Yahweh!

For two reasons the Committee has returned to the more familiar usage of the King James Version: (1) the word "Jehovah" does not accurately present any form of the Name ever used in Hebrew; and

Ahh! Notice how they conveniently forget to mention why they reject the name "Yahweh" in their 'reasons'!

(2) the use of any proper name for the one and only God, as though there were other gods from whom He had to be distinguished, was discontinued in Judaism before the Christian era and is entirely inappropriate for the universal faith of the Christian Church."

Who are they to decide what is appropriate for one's faith?? Their job is to translate, not decide what we are to believe! This statement is a sad commentary of how far some have gone from the scriptures. Not only do they say why they have chosen to replace Yahweh's name with a title of their choosing but they also state that 'use of any proper name...is entirely inappropriate!' Amazing! Who invented the idea of having a name of our Creator? Is it not Yahweh Himself?? Is Yahweh also 'entirely inappropriate' for placing His name there in scripture over 6000 times?? Are they saying indeed that the one whom they claim to worship is 'entirely inappropriate' for placing His name there? Oh my! They say it is 'entirely inappropriate for the universal faith of the Christian Church.' Why have a different substitution for the name "Yahweh" in each language? Would it not be more 'universal' to use ONE NAME? Yahweh has said:

Mala 1:11a (NKJV) For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles..

Why have they falsified our Creator's name and condemned Yahweh for putting it there originally? It is just sad.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New King James Version - Word study on Exodus 3:15 (New Open Bible)

Now I do like this word study. Even though the NKJV translators followed the traditions of the elders and forsook the idea of keeping Yahweh's name in the text, whoever wrote this word study is very frank about what actually is taking place.

Exodus 3 records one of the greatest revelations in the Old Testament: the personal name of God. (The words translated God in our Bible [El, Elohim, Eloah] are not names, but the standard vocabulary for the Deity and even for false gods.

God told Moses His plan to use him in delivering the Israelites from Egyptian bondage, and Moses had asked whom He should tell the people had sent him. God answered Moses: "I AM WHO I AM." He told Moses to tell them the "I AM" had sent him, "the LORD God." "I AM" and "LORD" are both probably derived from the Hebrew verb to be (hayah) because God is the ever-present One, "the Eternal" (Moffatt translation).

Many people are puzzled that in this and many other (over six thousand!) passages some Bibles read LORD in all capitals (e.g., KJV, NKJV, NIV), some read "Jehovah" (ASV, DARBY), and some read "Yahweh" (Jerusalem Bible). Why such a radical difference? Do the manuscripts vary that much? No, not at all.

Because the name of God is so important---Jews devoutly refer to Him as "the Name" (ha Shem)---it is well worth exploring this revelation in some detail. It is merely a question of a Jewish tradition and how various Christian Scholars handle that tradition.

In the Ten Commandments, God forbids taking His name "in vain". That is, we should not bear false witness in oaths and probably should avoid using profanity, as well. In their great fear of violating this command, devout Hebrews went beyond the law, and when they read the Hebrew Scriptures aloud they would read the word Lord (Adonai) whenever they saw the four letters (YHWH, or traditionally JHVH in Latin pronunciation) that spelled out God's revealed covenant name. This was the sacred name by which He had committed Himself to Israel as a nation.

The most ancient copies of the Hebrew text were written in consonants only.

Actually there are some semi-vowels..as any good book on Hebrew grammar will tell you.

As the language became less and less used, scholars (call Masoretes) added little dots and dashes called "vowel points" to indicate how the text was to be pronounced. Oddly enough, they put the vowels that go with the word Adonai together with the sacred four letter name (called "tetragrammaton") to guide the readers to say Adonai aloud in synagogue services.

Jehovah

This is the origin of the name "Jehovah." It is actually a hybrid name, combining the vowels of Adonai with the consonants of YHWH into JeHoVaH or YeHoWaH (the "a" of Adonai is changed for reasons of Hebrew pronunciation). The people who produced this name were medieval Christian Hebrew Scholars; the Jews never acknowledged such a name. The defense of this Christian hybrid is the same as the defense of the Jewish avoidance of pronouncing the name---tradition!

No surprise there. (I didn't add the "!")

There are many lovely hymns and paraphrases of the Psalms that use this name, so it would be a loss to eliminate it from our Christian vocabulary.

Choose 'what seems right to a man' over the truth? (See the study on the name "Jehovah")

The poetical form of Jehovah is Jah

Yahweh -

It is very likely that the name was pronounced very much like "Yahweh." Comparisons with transliterations of the name into other alphabets from very ancient times confirm this. The best argument for the spelling is that it is probably the historically accurate.

Thank you.

However, the RSV's 1952 introduction explained its reason for rejecting "Yahweh" in the translation. It said that it lacks devotional qualities for English-speaking Christians. It is true that many names beginning with "Y" seem odd to our culture (all the names in English --- including Jesus---were pronounced with a Y sound, in the original, as in "hallelu-Yah").

Just totally amazing...

LORD

Most recent major English Bibles, dissatisfied with both Jehovah and Yahweh, have retained the KJV's LORD (the 1901 text read Jehovah.)

Oh but Yahweh is certainly dissatisfied with THEM. They have failed to take in account something very important to HIM.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following is a summary of the excuses that they have used for their refusing to insert the true name Yahweh.

It's used in most English versions
We're following an ancient tradition
The word "Jehovah" does not accurately present any form of the Name ever used in Hebrew (What about "Yahweh"??)
Use of any proper name...is entirely inappropriate
It lacks devotional qualities
Amongst all these reasons, is there not something missing here?
YES, it is something that they have gone over painstakingly word for word! Something called THE WORD OF YAHWEH. Not once did they quote a scripture to back up their excuses!

We have heard the excuses, now let's see what Yahweh's word has to say about His name:

1Kings 18:24 (KJV) And call ye on the name of your elohim, and I will call on the name of Yahweh: and the Elohim that answereth by fire, let him be Elohim. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
Now I would like to touch on something ironic here. If you haven't read this story of Mt. Carmel, go to your scriptures and read it now or click here to read it. This is the prophet EliYah (Elijah) speaking these words. He said "call ye on the name of your elohim, and I will call on the name of Yahweh". What was the name of their elohim? It is BAAL. What is amazing here is that Baal means "Lord" in Hebrew! Here is is Brown's Driver/Briggs Lexicon on this Hebrew name of "Baal".
01168 Ba`al {bah'-al}

the same as 01167; TWOT - 262a

AV - Baal 62, Baalim 18; 80

Baal = "lord"
n pr m
1) supreme male divinity of the Phoenicians or Canaanites
2) a Reubenite
3) the son of Jehiel and grandfather of Saul
n pr loc
4) a town of Simeon, probably identical to Baalath-beer

There is your proof. What is sad is that the translators RETAINED the name of the idol Baal but REJECTED the name of the true Mighty One of the Scriptures!

Continuing with our scriptures...Yahweh said:

Isai 42:8 I am YAHWEH, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images.

Mala 2:2 If you will not hear, And if you will not take it to heart, To give glory to My name," Says YAHWEH of hosts, "I will send a curse upon you, And I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, Because you do not take it to heart.

Psal 105:1 Oh, give thanks to YAHWEH! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!

Psalms 116:17- I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of YAHWEH.

Isai 12:4 And in that day you will say: "Praise YAHWEH, call upon His name; Declare His deeds among the peoples, Make mention that His name is exalted.

Zechariah 13:9- And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It [is] my people: and they shall say, Yahweh is my Elohim.

This is only a small sampling of the hundreds of scriptures that tell us of the importance of His name. I invite you to consider these others by clicking here.

In conclusion it is very evident that Yahweh's name is important to Him but it apparently was not important to those who have translated His word into the English language. Therefore we must make every effort when we see His name substituted in our scriptures to restore them back as we read them. We cannot change what has already been done but we can zealously return to the faith which was once delivered to the saints.

What about Jehovah?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some Christians, especially Jehovah's witnesses, use this name for the Heavenly Father. However, every scholar and every reference book I have ever checked on "Jehovah" (including Jehovah's witness tracts) has said that this is not the way you pronounce His name! First of all it is impossible because of the fact that the Hebrew language has no "J" sound! According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, 1991 under the heading "Yahweh", here is how this name came into being:

"The Masoretes, who from about the 6th to the 10th century worked to reproduce the original text of the Hebrew Bible, replaced the vowels of the name YHWH with the vowel signs of the Hebrew word Adonai or Elohim. Thus the artificial name Jehovah (YeHoWaH) came into being."

So we see here one of many confirmations that the name Jehovah is not really His name at all! But it is a artificial name that was invented by man. Does man have the right to change the name of the one who created him? I think not! But that is exactly what has happened here.

Now let's look a little more deeply into this name Jehovah. Notice that many Hebrew names contain the first part of Yahweh's name which is Yah. This is true in the name Isa-YAH (Hebrew: YeshaYAH), which means "Yah is Salvation". Also in Jeremi-Yah (Hebrew: YermeYAH), Obadiah, Zechariah, and so on. Taking this knowledge, apply this to the name Je-hovah with Jeh being the first part of His name. First of all it doesn't add up when it comes to the names of these prophets. (Isaiah's name isn't IsaJEH) Second, the Hovah part of Je-hovah means RUIN and MISCHIEF in Hebrew according to Strong's Concordance #1943:

#1943 Hovah, another form for 1942; RUIN:-MISCHIEF

Yahweh's name in the Dead Sea Scrolls

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a photo of Psalms 119:59-64 in the Dead Sea Scrolls which are a collection of Hebrew Scriptures that date back 2000 years. Note Yahweh's name in the ancient Hebrew script while the rest of the text is in a more modern Hebrew that was used at the time. Also note that each line begins with the Hebrew letter "Heth" which corresponds with it's part in the acrostical 119th psalm.

Compare this to the Masoretic Hebrew Text:

Yahushua is His Name

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to scripture, there is only one name that we should call on for salvation:

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Jesus is not His name. The name Jesus is a relatively modern invention. His original name is Yahushua. You can look it up in the Strong's Concordance ( Greek #2424).

As can be seen at the beginning of this Home Page, the true name of the Almighty Creator is YAHWEH. The meaning of the name Yahushua is, "Yahweh is salvation."

Yahushua said:-

John 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not; if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

But why is it important? Won't he know that we are talking to or about him no matter what we call him?

Let's start with the fact that Yahushua did not come to change or destroy the Law. Yahushua said:

Matt 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

The word fulfil means to 'perform', and that is exactly what Yahushua did! For a further study on the Law, see: "Why all believers in Yahushua should be keeping the Law."

The Third Commandment says -

Exod 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of Yahweh thy Elohim in vain; for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

The word vain is Strong's Hebrew #7723, and it means to desolate or to bring to nothing. In the English translations of the Old Testament, where you see the term "The Lord", when it is applied to the Almighty, it should say YAHWEH.

Psal 135:13 Thy name, O Yahweh, [endureth] for ever; [and] thy memorial, O Yahweh, throughout all generations.

The question can be asked, "Did Yahushua use the name of the Heavenly Father?" Yahushua said:

John 17:26 - And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare [it]: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

When Yahushua gave instructions on how to pray, he started the prayer out as follows:

Matt 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

I would like to show other scriptures that show the importance of the name of the Messiah, the son of Yahweh:

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of Yahweh, [even] to them that believe on his name:

Matt 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

Matt 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son..14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do [it].

John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and [that] your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

John 15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

Others can be found here. Some will still say that "Jesus is good enough". But that is not his name at all. It is like calling Him "Larry" or "Billy". Neither Larry, Billy or Jesus are His name. So once we know the truth, why continue in error?

Let us remember what the Apostle said:

Acts 2:38 Then Kepha (Peter) said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahushua the Messiah for the forgiveness of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Yahushua's name foretold in Zechariah!

Here are some scriptures that show the "Branch" to be the future Messiah

Jeremiah 33:15 (KJV) In those days, and at that time, will I cause the BRANCH of righteousness to grow up to David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.
16 (KJV) In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell in safety: and this [is the name] by which she shall be called, Yahweh our righteousness.

Isaiah 11:1-AV And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a BRANCH shall grow out of his roots:
2 (KJV) And the spirit of Yahweh shall rest upon him, (see John 1:32) the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel andmight, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Yahweh;
3 (KJV) And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of Yahweh: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4 (KJV) But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5 (KJV) And righteousness shall be the belt of his loins, and faithfulness the belt of his reins.
Jeremiah 23:2-AV Therefore thus saith Yahweh Elohim of Israel against the shepherds that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith Yahweh.
3 (KJV) And I will gather the remnant of my flock from all countries where I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.
4 (KJV) And I will set shepherds over them who shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith Yahweh.
5 (KJV) Behold, the days come, saith Yahweh, that I will raise to David a righteous BRANCH, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice upon theearth.
6 (KJV) In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israelshall dwell in safety: and this [is] his name by which he shall be called, YAHWEH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
7 (KJV) Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Yahweh, that they shall no more say, Yahweh liveth, who brough tthe children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
8 (KJV) But, Yahweh liveth, who brought and who led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries where I have driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

Zechariah 3:8-AV Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they [are] men wondered at:for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.

Here is Yahushua's name prophesied
Zechariah 6:9 (KJV) And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
10 (KJV) Take of [them of] the captivity, [even] ofHeldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, who are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah;
11 (KJV) Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set [them] upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;

Joshua is pronounced Yahushua in the original Hebrew because Hebrew has no "J" or "J" sound
Zechariah 6:12 (KJV) And speak to him, saying, Thus speaketh Yahweh of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name [is] The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of Yahweh:

So the Scripture is saying: "Behold (or look) the man (Yahushua) whose NAME is the BRANCH!" Therefore the current High Priest of Judah in the days of Zechariah Joshua (Yahushua) has the name of the "BRANCH" or the coming Messiah

Did the Messiah say the Heavenly Father's Name?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are some who believe that the Messiah only referred to Yahweh as "The Father" or believe that Yahushua also followed the doctrine that states Yahweh's name is too holy to pronounce. But this was one of many false teachings coming out of that era. Yahushua flatly condemned those who would rather do things according to the "tradition of the elders" rather than the way Yahweh wanted them done. It should be obvious to anyone that when Yahweh does something nearly 7,000 times.. that is the way He wants it to be done. He doesn't want us to come in later and change the way He has done things. Yet Yahweh placed His name in scripture nearly 7,000 times and the "tradition of the elders" is to replace His name each one of those 7,000 times with a title of man's own choosing (e.g. LORD, GOD, Adonai, HaShem, etc).

Before we look at Yahushua's example, let us first examine the meaning of the word "name" in scripture. It comes from the Hebrew word "Shem". Here is a definition of this word in the Strong's Lexicon:

Strong's # 8034 Shem; a primitive word [perhaps rather from 7760 through the idea of definite and conspicuous position; compare 8064]; an appellation, as a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication honor, authority, character: - + base, [in-] fame[-ous], name[-d], renown, report.

As we can see from the above definition, Yahweh's name is not only represents His "character" but the Name Yahweh is also "His mark". Therefore the word "Shem"/Name refers to His literal written or spoken name as well as His character. If it did not refer to His literal written and spoken name then one could say that Yahweh does not have a written name at all. But we know that is not true:

Isai 42:8 (KJV) I am Yahweh: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

According to the above definition, His Name is also is His "memorial of individuality".

Man has set up may memorials for himself such as "The Wall" in Washington DC. If one were to go and desecrate that memorial and replace it with a bunch of different names, this person could expect to receive a great punishment for his crime. Now if we wouldn't desecrate one of man's memorials, then why would anyone want to desecrate Yahweh's Memorial - His Name? Do we have the authority to change scripture and replace His name with a title of our own liking? Surely the Messiah would not do this, especially when reading the scriptures in the Synagogue:

Luke 4:17 (NKJV) And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 "The Spirit of Yahweh [is] upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to [the] poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to [the] captives And recovery of sight to [the] blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of Yahweh." 20 Then He closed the book, and gave [it] back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

Let's examine some of the things the Messiah said concerning His Father's name:

John 5:43 (KJV) I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

Again, we must recognize the dual meaning of the word "Name" here. Not only did He come by His Father's authority, but He also came in His Father's literal written and spoken name. This is proven when we understand the Messiah's name as "Yahushua" or "Yahweh (is) Salvation".

Peter (in Acts 3) confirmed that the following scripture was speaking of Yahushua:

Deut 18:18 (KJV) I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.19 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require [it] of him.

This is a direct statement saying that Yahushua did 'speak' in His Father's name. Surely then He did not hide it, substitute it, or change it. He spoke in it. Also it was written of our Savior:

Psalm 118:26 (KJV) Blessed [be] he that cometh in the name of Yahweh..

So here we have 3 witnesses that Yahushua did come in His Father's name and speak in His Father's name. Nevertheless, lets examine more evidence. In Yahushua's prayer in John 17 He says:

John 17:5 (KJV) And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. 6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

And again:

John 17:26 (KJV) And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare [it]: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

This was a fulfillment of scripture in the great Psalm 22:

Psal 22:22 (KJV) I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

Scripture does not lie. If it says that Yahushua declared His name, He had to have done so. He not only declared His Father's literal and spoken name, but also His true character to the people. However, it is evident that not all had "ears to hear" concerning His Father's true character. Not unlike today, they had much baggage (traditions) left over from their Fathers. Yahushua clearly condemned the traditions that were not in line with Yahweh's word. As He had said:

Mark 7:9 (KJV) And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of Elohim, that ye may keep your own tradition.

One of the traditions was that Yahweh's name was too holy to pronounce.

The question might be asked "Why did Yahushua refer to Yahweh as "Father"? I believe that there are many scriptures that indicate the Messiah was also called "Yahweh" in the old testament. For instance:

Isai 44:6 (KJV) Thus saith Yahweh the King of Israel, and His redeemer Yahweh of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no El'.

Notice that there are two called "Yahweh" in this verse. 1) Yahweh, King of Israel and 2) Yahweh's Redeemer, "Yahweh of Hosts". This is one of many verses that refers to the Son by the name "Yahweh" (e.g. Jeremiah 23:5-6). It speaks to the fact that Yahweh's name is in Him.

Because He was called by His Father's name "Yahweh" in some scriptures, it is possible that one reason Yahushua often called Him "Father" was to show that He is to be distinguished from Yahweh the Father. This would assist in disproving any teaching that may later creep in that Yahushua was the Father (e.g. the "oneness" doctrine") rather than He being distinct from the Father. Perhaps I cannot directly prove this. Nevertheless since He was the Son of Yahweh, there would naturally be a greater frequency of Yahushua calling Yahweh "Father". The fact that He often called Him Father doesn't mean that He never called Him by His name, Yahweh. And of course it is not a wrong thing to call Yahweh by a title that fitly describes Him. He is our Father, our Creator, our Master, our King. The problem lies in replacing, changing and failing to praise, exalt, bless, love, teach, preach, anoint, assemble, believe, give thanks, honor and call on His name as scripture teaches us.

Now let's examine the trial in which Yahushua was sentenced to death.

Matt 26:64 (KJV) Yahushua saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. 65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. 66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

In light of these verses, it is fascinating to study the historical context of what was going on. Based on the above scripture, it is evident that the official charge against the Messiah was "blasphemy". The word "Power" in verse 64 was a popular 'euphemism' or substitution for the divine name Yahweh. Now according to the Mishna:

"He who blasphemes is liable only when he will have fully pronounced the Divine Name. Said R. Joshua ben Qorha, "on every day (of the trial) they examine the witnesses with a substituted name. When sentence was to be given they did not declare him guilty of death with the substituted name, but they put everyone out and ask the most important of the witnesses, saying to him, "Say, what exactly did you hear?" And he says what he heard. And the judges stand on their feet and tear their clothing, and they may not mend them again.(m.San. 7:5)"

Therefore, it is evident that historically no man could be sentenced for blasphemy unless he had actually spoken the Divine Name. This is further proven when we see that the High Priest "rent his clothes" upon hearing the name since Yahushua was his own witness (as he said "what further need have we of witnesses?").

Finally, there is strong evidence that Yahushua spoke the name aloud in Mt. 4:7; 4:10; 5:33; 21:42; 22:37 & 22:44. The Hebrew version DuTillet has 3 yods in the place of the name "Yahweh" and the Shem Tob has a "Heh" in those places. These all indicate He spoke the name since there is no Hebrew word with a single Heh or 3 consecutive Yod's. This is one of the multitude of attempts to falsify His name by those who believed in the ineffable name doctrine. The ineffable name doctrine states that Yahweh's name is too holy to pronounce. Clement of Alexandria did not hold to this doctrine, but others did like Jerome:

"For no one can utter the name of the ineffable deity; and if any one dare to say that there is a name, he raves with a hopeless madness. (I Apol.,61)"

"But to the father of all, who is unbegotten, there is no name given. For by whatever name he be called, he has as his elder the person who gives him the name. But these words, Father, and Deity, and Creator, and Lord, and Master, are not names but appelations derived from good deeds and functions. (II Apol., 6)"

With this in mind, it is no wonder that the manuscripts we have today do not contain the name. We know that the 'church fathers' quickly departed from the true Sabbath. It shouldn't be difficult to believe that they also quickly dropped the use of the true name of our Creator. It is very evident that the "ineffable name" doctrine is totally unscriptural. It flies in the face of scriptures like:

Exod 9:16 (KJV) And in very deed for this [cause] have I raised thee up, for to shew [in] thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.

Isai 52:6a "My people shall know my name.."
Psalms 116:4 (KJV) Then I called upon the name of Yahweh; O Yahweh, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.
Psalms 116:13 (KJV) I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of Yahweh.
Psalms 116:17 (KJV) I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of Yahweh.
Isaiah 12:4 (KJV) And in that day shall ye say, Praise Yahweh, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.

I think it is better to trust in what the scriptures say concerning His name rather than trusting in the reasoning that "since the Greek manuscripts which we have today (which are not original) do not contain the name, it must not be important." The truth is that Greek copies of the Old Testament prior to the mid 2nd century DO contain the sacred name IN HEBREW within the text itself. Manuscripts found after that era replace the sacred name with "Kyrios". No new testament manuscripts prior to the mid-2nd century have ever been found with the possible exception of some fragments out of the book of John. In those fragments, there are no instances where the Yahweh's name is replaced with "Kyrios".

In the end, Yahweh's word will be the determining factor in what is right and what is wrong. Surely the scriptures declare the importance of His name. I will close with one final scripture:

Psalms 105:1 (KJV) O give thanks to Yahweh; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.

This last scripture is one of many instances where we are told to call on His name. We can be assured that the Perfect One, Yahushua the Messiah did just that.

Being baptized is one of the first things a believer in Yahushua should do. We see in scripture that it was always done quickly after believing in Yahushua:
Acts 2:41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of Elohim and the name of Yahushua Messiah, both men and women were baptized.

Acts 8:36-37 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?" 37 Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Yahushua Messiah is the Son of Elohim."

Acts 9:17-18 And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Master Yahushua, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." 18 Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.

Acts 10:45-47 - And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify Elohim. Then Peter answered, 47 "Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?"

Acts 16:14-15 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped Elohim. Yahweh opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. 15 And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Master, come to my house and stay." So she persuaded us.

Acts 16:31-32 So they said, "Believe on the Master Yahushua Messiah, and you will be saved, you and your household." 32 Then they spoke the word of the Master to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.

Acts 18:8 Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Master with all his household. And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.

Acts 19:4-5 Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Messiah Yahushua." 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Master Yahushua.

Acts 22:16 'And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Master.'
If you have repented and are a believer in Yahushua but have not been baptized, do not tarry/wait! Do what it takes to be baptized in Yahushua's name. I know of one person who flew all the way from Norway to the United States to be baptized. Another person drove 12 hours through a snowstorm to get baptized in a creek on when it was 14 degrees F outside. Yahushua indicated how important it was when He said:
John 3:5 Yahushua answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of Yahweh.

Now let's examine a controversy that often brews among Christians which might appear valid on the surface. Yahushua said:
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:

Here we have a scripture declaring that we must be baptized in the name of the Father AND the Son AND the Holy Spirit. But now read this..
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahushua Messiah for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

This scripture declares that we must Repent and be baptized in the Name of the Son only! Why is this? Do these two scriptures contradict?? Certainly not! But what is the answer here? The answer is revealed only if you call on the Name of Yahweh and the Name of Yahushua. Now lets take a close look at the Name of our Heavenly Father Yahweh.
The Heavenly Father's Name is Yahweh. Sometimes you will find in scripture that He is called simply "Yah." See your King James or New King James Bible for confirmation of this. Here is the King James Version of Psalms 68:4..
Psalms 68:4 4 Sing unto Elohim, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by His Name JAH, and rejoice before him.

Here we see it written as JAH, however it is pronounced like YAH since there is no "J" sound in Hebrew whatsoever. The New King James Bible restores the correct rendering...
"Sing to God (Elohim), sing praises to His Name; Extol Him who rides on the clouds by His Name YAH, and rejoice before Him"

Interestingly, the New King James Version also restores the Name YAH in two other verses in Isaiah 12:2 and 26:4.
Now let's look at the Name of Yahushua. It also consists of two parts: Yahu being the first syllable and shua being the second. Therefore the Name of Yahushua contains the Father's Name (Yahueh/Yahweh). In Hebrew, the word "Shua" means "Saves. " When we know this we can truly understand Matthew 1:21....
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Yahushua [YAH (YAHweh) SAVES]: for he shall save His people from their sins.

Now we know that the Son's Name contains the Fathers Name within and can now truly understand the fullness of Yahushua's words in John 5:43..
John 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

So if we are baptized in the Name of Yahushua then we are baptized in the Name of the Father AND the Name of the Son. Now what about the Holy Spirit?
John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

So the Holy Spirit comes in the Name of Yahushua! Therefore, when we are baptized in the name of Yahushua, then we are being baptized in the Name of the Father, the Name of the Son and of the Holy Spirit! You will not find the Name of the Father in the man made name, "Jesus." Nor does "Jesus" resemble the Son's true name. So if we desire to worship Him in Spirit and in truth, we should also become baptized in the REAL name of the Messiah: Yahushua.
Now, I am not saying that everyone who has been baptized in the name of Jesus are lost and doomed to destruction. After all, some men might never have had the chance to know His true name. However, once we become a believer, we are to be obedient and love the truth. If we were not baptized correctly, we become aware that we have not properly fulfilled the commandment to be baptized. A person with a willing and obedient heart should want to do it correctly and seek to be baptized in the real and truthful name of Yahushua once enlightened. After all there is salvation in no other name!
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Why do we have "The LORD" in our bibles rather than Yahweh?
This is a very common question. It all began with a Jewish tradition called the "ineffable name" doctrine. Jews, for various reasons, started to substitute His name with the Hebrew title "Adonai". Adonai is the Hebrew word for "Lord". This information can be easily verified in many Bible dictionaries and various encyclopedias. For instance, the Encyclopedia Britannica states:

Yahweh, the God of the Israelites, his name being revealed to Moses as four Hebrew CONSONANTS (YHWH) CALLED THE TETRAGRAMMATON. AFTER THE EXILE (6TH CENTURY BC), and especially from the 3rd century BC on, Jews ceased to use the name Yahweh for two reasons. As Judaism became a universal religion through its proselytizing in the Greco-Roman world, the more common noun elohim, meaning "god," tended to replace Yahweh to demonstrate the universal sovereignty of Israel's God over all others. At the same time, the divine name was increasingly regarded as too sacred to be uttered; it was thus replaced vocally in the synagogue ritual by the Hebrew word Adonai ("My Lord"), which was translated as Kyrios ("Lord") in the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Old Testament.
We see in the above quote that Jews started to vocally replace the name "Yahweh" with "Adonai" (Lord) for two reasons:

1. It was beginning to be believed that His name was too sacred to be uttered

2. They preferred to simply call Him "Elohim" rather than "Yahweh" to demonstrate to the world that He is the only true Elohim.

While on the surface these reasons may seem honorable, they are very unscriptural. They were and are attempts to improve on Yahweh's already perfect ways. If Yahweh really wanted a substitute, why would He have placed His name there to begin with? Though scripture says to follow Yahweh rather than man, we find that nearly 7,000 times the most important name of all is replaced with a another word that man has chosen.

This tradition was not practiced by the Messiah or the apostles, but it was adopted by some Christians during the early half of the 2nd Century CE/AD. By the 4th century, this practice was well established and widely practiced. Jerome, a 4th century "Church Father" who authored the Latin Vulgate version, substituted the name "Yahweh" throughout with the Latin word "Dominus" (meaning "Lord"). The tradition of replacing Yahweh's name with "the LORD" continues to this day. Most English translations substitute the name Yahweh with "the LORD" and translations into other languages will also commonly choose a title meaning "Lord" in their own language. More information on this can be found in the preface of many modern bibles.

Why people of all languages must
call upon the name of Yahweh

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a question that is often asked. Why should an English speaking person call on the Hebrew names of Yahweh and Yahushua?

The answer is actually quite simple. Personal names do not translate across languages. For instance, Ariel Sharon is still Ariel Sharon in any country or language. Personal names do not translate, they transliterate. In other words, they retain the pronunciation as much as possible. Even so, "The LORD" is not a translation of the name "Yahweh". It is a direct replacement. Put simply, the translators admit they substituted Yahweh's name for a title. All for the sake of an unscriptural tradition. Yahweh's name is in scripture nearly 7000 times. And nearly 7000 times they replaced it (not translated it) with "the LORD", or "GOD". I wouldn't want someone to change my name unless it was Yahweh. And it is clear that according to the third commandment that Yahweh doesn't want anyone to change or falsify His name either.

Think about this for a moment. What makes man think he has the authority to change the name of the one who created him, and who created all things? We don't have that right! For instance, in the scriptures we see that one who changes the name of another is always in authority over them. Yahushua renamed Simon. Yahweh renamed Abram to Abraham. Adam named the animals. We have no authority to rename our Heavenly Father or His Messiah Yahushua. We need to be sure we leave things as He inspired it.

Also consider this: If you don't speak Hebrew then you can't say Abraham, Isaac, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Obadiah, Zechariah, Michael or a long list of other Hebrew names! Why was Yahweh's name the only one changed? And why was Yahushua's Name the only name in our modern bibles that is different from the Old Testament to the New Testament? In the Old Testament, it's "Joshua" but in the New Testament it's "Jesus". The answer is simple. Satan will do anything to turn men from the truth. Yahweh's Name IS truth. Yahushua's Name IS truth. Substitutions are lies. You see, Father Yahweh is seeking those who worship Him in spirit and in truth. And when we call Him by a false name, then we are worshipping Him in lies and not truth. If we know that "the Lord" and "Jesus" are false, why continue in error?? Aren't we supposed to love the truth?

But maybe you are thinking, "Okay so do you have any scriptures that show that Gentiles should be calling on His name?" I am glad you asked....

Malachi 1:11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen (Heb. Gentiles), saith Yahweh of hosts.

Acts 9:15 But the Master said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

Acts 15:14 Simeon hath declared how Elohim at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

The coming Kingdom of Yahweh

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many are the web sites and books that are out there teaching about prophecy. It seems that everyone has their own opinion about the events that are taking place in this world as it relates to prophecy. I just wish that more people would pay attention to what the coming Kingdom will be like!

When the day of Yahweh comes, it will come as a shock to millions:

Isaiah 66:15-24 For behold, Yahweh will come with fire And with His chariots, like a whirlwind, To render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For by fire and by His sword Yahweh will judge all flesh; And the slain of Yahweh shall be many. 17 "Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves, To go to the gardens After an idol in the midst, Eating swine's flesh and the abomination and the mouse, Shall be consumed together," says Yahweh. 18 " For I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory. 19 "I will set a sign among them; and those among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish and Pul and Lud, who draw the bow, and Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they shall declare My glory among the Gentiles. 20 "Then they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to Yahweh out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem," says Yahweh, "as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of Yahweh. 21 "And I will also take some of them for priests and Levites," says Yahweh. 22 " For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me," says Yahweh, "So shall your descendants and your name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me," says Yahweh. 24 "And they shall go forth and look Upon the corpses of the men Who have transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, And their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh."

Here it speaks of people gathering to worship Yahweh on the New Moon and Sabbath. Some have said these things are abolished. If it is abolished, how can this be so? It says that some will taken as priests and Levites. It also speaks of Yahweh destroying all those who eat swine's flesh just before His coming Kingdom. If it were abolished now, why would it be reinstated in Yahweh's kingdom? If eating pork is ok to do now, why then is Yahweh destroying those who do? The answer must be that the law never really was abolished. In fact, the kingdom of Yahweh will be ruled by it:

Isaiah 2:2-5 - And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of Yahweh's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, to the house of the Elohim of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem. 4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

More verses:

Zechariah 14:12-21 And this shall be the plague with which Yahweh will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths. 13 It shall come to pass in that day That a great panic from Yahweh will be among them. Everyone will seize the hand of his neighbor, And raise his hand against his neighbor's hand; 14 Judah also will fight at Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations Shall be gathered together: Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance. 15 Such also shall be the plague On the horse and the mule, On the camel and the donkey, And on all the cattle that will be in those camps. So shall this plague be. 16 And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, Yahweh of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 17 And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, Yahweh of hosts, on them there will be no rain. 18 If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which Yahweh strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 20 In that day "HOLINESS TO YAHWEH" shall be engraved on the bells of the horses. The pots in Yahweh's house shall be like the bowls before the altar. 21 Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to Yahweh of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of Yahweh of hosts.

It is obvious that this scripture has not yet been fulfilled. Now to this I ask every man, "Why are people observing the Feast of Tabernacles if this has all been abolished?". When Yahweh's Kingdom is established and He rules over all the earth, His will is going to be done "on earth, as it is in heaven." This being the case, we see that the feast days are going to be kept and we see that all Gentiles will be expected to keep them. If the feast days really were only for Israel, why would Yahweh punish the Gentiles who refuse to keep the Feast of Tabernacles? I think it's high time that we start doing the will of Yahweh now. After all, how can we be rulers in His kingdom if we don't seek to adhere to the rules of the kingdom?

You might also have noticed that sacrifices are mentioned in verse 21. To this I also ask, "Why is it speaking of the altar and sacrifices coming back if this has all been abolished?" Now it is evident from scripture that we are not to do this without a priesthood in place. At this time our High Priest is reigning from heaven and there is no established priesthood on earth. But when there is an established priesthood on earth, sacrifices will indeed be returning. This may seem bizarre to the average Christian, but it is often missed that Paul himself went into the temple to make sacrifices:

Acts 21:26 - Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.

Acts 24:17 - Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.

Paul was there with four other brethren who had taken a Nazarite vow. The offerings mentioned were related to the Nazarite vow mentioned in Numbers 6. The entire reason Paul was there was to prove to false accusers that he kept the law of Yahweh. And it was James who suggested he do it. I don't believe Paul or any of the disciples were liars or pretenders. They were Torah observant believers in Yahushua even as we should seek to be.

It is also predicted in the book of Ezekiel:

Ezekiel 37:21-27 - "Then say to them, `Thus says Yahweh Elohim: "Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; "and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again. "They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their Elohim. "David My servant [shall] [be] king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them.
"Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children's children, forever; and My servant David [shall] [be] their prince forever. "Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore. "My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.

Following this chapter of Ezekiel begins a vision of a future kingdom of Yahweh that has never been fulfilled. It speaks here about the House of Judah and the House of Israel being united into one kingdom. This all leads into the remaining chapters of Ezekiel which go into GREAT detail about what the coming kingdom of Yahweh will be like. It talks a lot about sacrifices and feasts. Here is one example of where it speaks of the Passover:

Ezekiel 45:21-24 - "In the first [month], on the fourteenth day of the month, you shall observe the Passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten. "And on that day the prince shall prepare for himself and for all the people of the land a bull [for] a sin offering. "On the seven days of the feast he shall prepare a burnt offering to Yahweh, seven bulls and seven rams without blemish, daily for seven days, and a kid of the goats daily [for] a sin offering. "And he shall prepare a grain offering of one ephah for each bull and one ephah for each ram, together with a hin of oil for each ephah.

Note here that there is no Passover Lamb! We know that Yahushua is our Passover Lamb (1Corinthians 5:7). So sacrifices will still be offered, but they will be done in somewhat different ways than the way described in the law of Moses. Some of these verses in the latter chapters of Ezekiel mirror passages found in the book of Revelation. For instance:

Ezekiel 47:12 - "Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine."

Revelation 22:2 - In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Taking all these scriptures into consideration, it is very clear that the Law was never abolished or taken away. Some may try to say, "Well, Yahweh gave the law, then took it away the law for a time and then He brought it back again". This is absurd! Not only that, it is unscriptural. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change (Mal. 3:6). Also, consider:

Colossians 2:16-17 - Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body (is) of the Messiah.

The Torah/Law that we observe ARE a shadow of things to come. Not WERE (As some might say). The Torah will be kept in the Kingdom of Yahweh, no doubt about it. This is why when I keep the Feast of Tabernacles this year, that will foreshadow the coming Kingdom in which all flesh will be forced to observe it. For anyone to judge me for keeping it, they need to take a closer look at scripture because these things are commanded to be kept. Sadly, men have adopted the festivals of pagans (Christmas and Easter for instance) and incorporated them into their worship instead. And oh yes, about these verses in Colossians? Notice the word "(is)" which is in parenthesis. This means the word was added to the text by the translators. Therefore this scripture is speaking literally of the "Body of the Messiah". Now if you read it as it stands it would say...Let no man judge you therefore in meat, drink, etc....which are shadow of things to come, but the body of the Messiah. In other words, we SHOULD be keeping these things just as we will be keeping these things in the wonderful Kingdom of Yahweh. Read a more detailed study of Colossians 2 here. When the day of Yahweh comes, those who sought to keep Yahweh's commandments will be revealed as people who sought to walk in the ways of the kingdom. The true things concerning this kingdom have been ignored for too long.

Acts 8:12 - But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of Elohim, and the name of Yahushua Messiah, they were baptized, both men and women.

Why Yahushua?
(Updated 7/14/08)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some have written me asking for an explanation of why I use the form "Yahushua" in reference to the Messiah while others use "Yahshua", "Yeshua" or "Yehoshua". The purpose of this study is to go through each of these pronunciations and determine which is the most correct.

I'm not one that believes that you need to pronounce the Messiah's name exactly like I do in order to be saved. However, the issue of the Messiah's name is a very important one. If you don't believe me, read the below scriptures:

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Yahushua Messiah for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Yahushua Messiah of Nazareth, rise up and walk."

Acts 3:16 "And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which [comes] through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

Acts 4:7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power or by what name have you done this?"

Acts 4:10 "let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Yahushua Messiah of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom Elohim raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.

Acts 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Acts 4:17 "But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name." 18 And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Yahushua.

Acts 4:30 "by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Yahushua."

Acts 5:28 saying, "Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man's blood on us!"

Acts 5:40 And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten [them], they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Yahushua, and let them go. 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of Elohim and the name of Yahushua Messiah, both men and women were baptized.

Acts 8:16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Master Yahushua.

Acts 9:14 "And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name." 15 But the Master said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16 "For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name's sake."

Acts 9:21 Then all who heard were amazed, and said, "Is this not he who destroyed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and has come here for that purpose, so that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?"

Acts 9:27 But Barnabas took him and brought [him] to the apostles. And he declared to them how he had seen the Master on the road, and that He had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Yahushua.

Acts 9:29 And he spoke boldly in the name of the Master Yahushua and disputed against the Hellenists, but they attempted to kill him.

Acts 10:43 "To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins."

Acts 15:14 "Simon has declared how Elohim at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name.

Acts 15:26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Master Yahushua Messiah.

Acts 16:18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Yahushua Messiah to come out of her." And he came out that very hour.

Acts 18:15 "But if it is a question of words and names and your own law, look [to] [it] yourselves; for I do not want to be a judge of such [matters]."

Acts 19:5 When they heard [this], they were baptized in the name of the Master Yahushua.

Acts 19:13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Master Yahushua over those who had evil spirits, saying, "We exorcise you by the Yahushua whom Paul preaches."

Acts 19:17 This became known both to all Jews and Greeks dwelling in Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Master Yahushua was magnified.

Acts 21:13 Then Paul answered, "What do you mean by weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Master Yahushua."

And this is just in the book of Acts! The name of Yahushua is intricately linked with the person of Yahushua. So in light of the numerous scriptures which show us the importance of His name, we should at least seek to understand how it is pronounced. It is obviously important according to scripture.

Origin of the name "Jesus"

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, the etymological origin of "Jesus" is:

Jesus ..Middle English, from Late Latin Isus, from Greek Isous, from Hebrew yû‘, from yhôûa‘, Joshua...

Notice that it says that the origin of His name is from Latin, then Greek, then Hebrew. So the name "Jesus" is the result of 3 different languages placing their influence on the original name the disciples were proclaiming, baptizing in and praying in. Some of the influence is quite recent. In the 1611 King James Version, it originally had "Iesus" rather than "Jesus" (photo). Later revisions of the KJV changed it to "Jesus". This leads me to ask some important questions: "Who is the one who gets to decide what it is changed to? Man or Yahweh? And if Yahushua is supposed to be the same yesterday, today and forever, why do they keep changing His name?"

If you look up the name "Jesus" in a Strong's lexicon it has "Iesous":

"2424 Iesous ee-ay-sooce' of Hebrew origin (3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites:--Jesus."

Notice that it traces the name of Messiah to Hebrew word #3091 in the Strong's lexicon. This name is the same name as "Joshua, Son of Nun". In the Hebrew, this name is spelled .

While there are some out there claiming that "Jesus" is somehow derived from "Zeus", I have yet to find anyone who is willing to present hard evidence of this claim. One person wrote a book which claimed that "Iesous" means "Hail Zeus". When I contacted him by phone and asked him for evidence of this claim, he said "Iesous" means "Hail Zeus" in the sense that when you say the "Ie" it sounds like "Yaayy" and "Yaayy" is what people do in modern sports games when they hail their team. Thus, the statement that "Iesous" meant "Hail Zeus" had nothing to do with its meaning in the Greek language.

In fact, the Greek language spells Zeus (#2203 in the Strong's Lexicon) as ZeuV and doesn't even have the same letters or sound as the second syllable in IhsouV (Iesous). First of all, the Z in ZeuV produces a "dz" sound, not an "s" sound. Also the eu combination in ZeuV sounds like "eu as in feud", a letter combination not found in any form of IhsouV/Iesous. So is ZeuV is actually pronounced "Dzyooce" and not "Sooce". These things alone make it appear quite impossible that Iesous comes from "Zeus". Look at the first page of the Greek Lexicon in your Strong's concordance if you want confirmation of the sounds of these Greek letters.

Another important point is that the Septuagint, a Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptures that was completed many years before Yahushua came to earth, also rendered the Hebrew name "Yahushua" as IhsouV (Iesous). This fact alone clearly demonstrates that "Iesous" is a Greek form of and wasn't a form invented by apostate Christians who wanted to honor Zeus in some way.

Interestingly, there is evidence that although the name of Yahushua was written in Greek as IhsouV, it may have actually been pronounced the way a Hebrew speaking person would pronounce it. Around 178 CE, a pagan by the name of Celsus engaged in written debates with Christians. In one of them, Celsus (speaking of Christians) said:

"But of course they think otherwise: they assume that by pronouncing the name of their teacher they are armored against the powers of the earth and air. And they are quite insistent on the efficacy of the name as a means of protection: pronounce it improperly, they say, and it is ineffective. Greek and Latin will not do; it must be said in a barbarian tongue to work. Silly as they are, one finds them standing next to a a statue of Zeus or Apollo or some other god, and shouting, "see here: I blaspheme it and strike it, but it is powerless against me for I am a Christian." Celsus on the True Doctrine, A Discourse Against the Christians, R. Joseph Hoffman (page118)

Notice that Celsus was quoting Christians as saying that the name of "their teacher" (Yahushua no doubt) must not be spoken "improperly" and that it must not be spoken in a "Greek" way or "Latin" way, but in a "Barbarian tongue" for it to be effective. Of course, to the pagans the Hebrew language was nothing more than a barbarian language. This lends evidence that even though the name of Yahushua was written as IhsouV, there were at least some people speaking it in the Hebrew way. The Greek alphabet simply lacks the letters necessary to correctly convey how the name is pronounced in Hebrew.

So how is the name pronounced? Let's start with the form that is found in various Hebrew Lexicons: "Yehoshua".

Yehoshua

In the Strong's concordance and other Hebrew Lexicons, the pronunciation listed for the Messiah's name is typically "Yehoshua". While I do not believe we should be getting all of our Hebrew learning from a Strong's lexicon alone (that would be dangerous), most of us do own a Strong's Concordance so I will be using it during this study for the purposes of illustration.

The reason for the "Yehoshua" pronunciation is due to the Hebrew vowel pointing added by the Masorite scribes. The vowel points are the little dots and dashes under and above certain Hebrew letters. Unlike English, Hebrew was written with mostly all consonants. It was up to the reader to supply the vowels in each word based on the context of the word. The Masorites were concerned that Hebrew was becoming a lost language so they invented the vowel point system to preserve the sounds of the Hebrew language. However, in keeping with tradition they were not interested in letting everyone speak the pronunciation of the Heavenly Father's name. For this reason, they pointed the Heavenly Father's name to produce the sound "Yehovah".

To avoid speaking the Heavenly Father's name, the Jewish tradition was to say "Adonai" ("Lord") instead of Yahweh. For this reason, our English bibles also say "LORD" instead of "Yahweh". So rather than supplying the true vowels of the Heavenly Father's name, the scribes inserted the vowels for "Adonai" so that the reader would be reminded to say "Adonai" rather than Yahweh.

But what if the Hebrew scriptures contained a phrase such as "Adonai Yahweh" (Master Yahweh)? They would then have to say "Adonai Adonai", a rather odd (if not a bit embarrassing) phrase. Their solution was to put the vowel points for "Elohim" within the Heavenly Father's name so that they would be reminded to say "Adonai Elohim" instead of "Adonai adonai". This is even mentioned in the Strong's lexicon and it lists it as a different word number. Read what it says:

"136" is the Hebrew word "Adonai" and "430" is the Hebrew word "Elohim". So these vowel points are used within the Father's name whenever His name follows 136 (Adonai). And they pronounce this as 430 (Elohim) to avoid having to say Adonai twice. For this reason, many English translations will render "Adonai Yahweh" as "the Lord GOD" with "GOD" being in all capitals to let the reader know that this is where the sacred name is found in the Hebrew. Very few even know that this is why "GOD" is sometimes in all capital letters (See Gen 15:2 for one of hundreds of examples of this). It is amazing how far men will go in order to cleave to tradition!

So how does this relate to the pronunciation of the Messiah's name? Let's take a look at His name again in the Strong's Lexicon:

Notice that there are other names listed in the Strong's concordance which contain the first three letters of Yahweh's name. And just like Yahweh's name which starts with the "Yeho" vowel points, they use the "Yeho" vowel points in "Yehoram", "Yehosheba", "Yehoshaphat" and numerous other names which contain the first part of Yahweh's name. The scribes apparently did not want anyone to accidentally pronounce the Heavenly Father's name when saying these other names, so they changed the vowel points of those names as well.

Interestingly, they did not change the pronunciation of these same three letters when it was at the end of a person's name. For instance, look at how Zechariah's name is presented in the Hebrew text:

Notice the different vowel pointing and pronunciation herein ("ZecharYahu"). Phonetically, the first three letters in the Heavenly Father's name are also pronounced "Yahu". For this reason, the Heavenly Father's name can be written as "YAHUeh" or "YAHWeh" and the same pronunciation will result, just as in the word "Persuade" could also be spelled "Perswade". I prefer to use a W so that there is less confusion over how the name is to be pronounced.

By the way, for those who think we cannot know what the vowel sounds were in Yahweh's name, it only takes a little research to find the pronunciation of "Yod Heh Waw" because the scribes had no problem giving the correct pronunciation of these three letters at the end of a name. Because it ends in 'Yahu', there was considered to be no risk in accidentally saying "Yahueh/Yahweh". This would also explain why the scribes used the correct vowel points in the shortened form of Yahweh's name ("Yah"):

They even used the correct vowel pointing in "HalleluYah". Thus, the only time they would revert to the "Yeho" pronunciation of these three letters was when it was at the beginning of a Hebrew name. But I want nothing to do with the unscriptural tradition of saying "Adonai/Lord/Elohim/God" in place of Yahweh. That is one reason I do not refer to the Messiah as "Yehoshua". "Yeho(ah)" does not save, "Yahu(eh)" saves!

Having said this, there are some Hebrew students and scholars who have noticed that a natural progression of Hebrew language is to shorten the first vowel and lengthen the second whenever the accent is on the third syllable (in this case "shu") of a Hebrew word. This would indeed result in the "Y'hoshua" or "Yehoshua" pronunciation. For this reason, some believe "Yehoshua" to actually be the correct pronunciation.

But while this may be true in normal Hebrew words, there is plenty of evidence to support that this was not true in personal names--especially with names containing the first part of Yahweh's name. The Murashu texts, dated 5th century BCE and written on clay tablets in cuneiform script, list the names of about 70 Jewish settlers in Persia. In these tablets, vowels are used. The Hebrew names which begin with Yod Heh Waw all are written "Yahu-" and never "Y'ho".

"In the cuneiform texts Yeho [YHW], Yo [YW] and Yah [YH] are written Yahu, as for example in the names Jehu (Yahu-a), Jehoahaz (Yahu-khazi) and Hezekiah (Khazaqi-yahu)" A. H. Sayce in "Higher Criticism" notes on p. 87

Notice that not only were names beginning with "Yeho" written as "Yahu", but also names beginning with "Yo" such as "Yochanan" (John) and "Yoel" (Joel) were written as "Yahu". This indicates John and Joel were originally "Yahuchanan" and "Yahuel".

Also, cuneiform tablets (also containing vowels) were discovered near the Ishtar gate in Babylon which give a list of workers and captives to whom rations were given. In addition to validating the biblical account in 2Kings 25:27-29 where it mentions that Jehoiachin (Yahuiachin) ate at the King's table, these tablets help to establish the way these names were pronounced before the Masorite scribes inserted their vowel pointings based on tradition:

"Yaukin, king of the land of Yahud," ("Jehoiachin, the king of the land of Judah")

Another witness is found in an inscription of the Assyrian monarch Tiglath-pileser III (Gressmann Bilder 348; ANET 282a). When listing those kings who were paying tribute to this Assyrian King, it mentions "Yauhazi", also known as "Ahaz". Various lexicons such as the New Brown-Driver-Briggs-Gesenius Hebrew-English Lexicon (p. 219 b) and the Hebrew Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament (under "Ahaz") mention this inscription as well.

With all the evidence, it becomes clear that the name was never originally pronounced "Yehoshua". Rather "Yahushua" is more correct and there is no reason to mispronounce the Heavenly Father's name when speaking the name of His Son. Just as names which end with a reference to Yahweh correctly convey the Father's name ("ZecharYah/ZecharYahu"), so do the names which begin with it.

Yeshua

Much used by the Messianic movement, "Yeshua" is actually an Aramaic form of the Hebrew name "Yahushua". In the Hebrew script, it is not spelled the same as Yahushua. The "Yeshua" name, spelled(Yod Shin Waw Ayin), is found in the books of Nehemiah and Ezra where it lists the names of those who returned from the Babylonian exile. One of them is called "Jeshua, the son of Jozadak":

Ezra 3:2 Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the Elohim of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of Elohim.

"Jeshua the Son of Jozadak" is the same High Priest mentioned in Zechariah 6:

Zechariah 6:11 Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;

Notice that in Zechariah, he is not called "Jeshua the son of Jozadak" but he is called "Joshua the son of Josedech" (Heb. Yahushua the son of Yahutsadak). This reflects the Hebrew spelling of the same name. So in Zechariah, he is called Yahushua but in Ezra he is called Yeshua. The book of Nehemiah also changes the name of Joshua the son of Nun to "Jeshua, the son of Nun":

Nehemiah 8:17 And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.

The change in spelling to "Jeshua/Yeshua" ("Yod Shin Waw Ayin" ) is due to the Aramaic influence during the exile. In fact, parts of the book of Ezra are written in Aramaic. For confirmation, look at your Strong's Lexicon:

Notice that #3442 and #3443 are the same exact word with the same Hebrew spelling, but this lexicon lists them separately. Why is this? Well, if you looked up "Jeshua" in the concordance, you will notice that it lists "Jeshua" in Ezra 3:2 as coming from #3442 and "Jeshua" in Ezra 5:2 coming from #3443. The reason for the two different Strong's word numbers is Ezra 5:2 is a part of the book of Ezra which was written in Aramaic (Ezra 4:8 through 6:18; 7:12-26). This is why #3443 mentions "Yeshuwa" as coming from "Chaldean" in the above definition (3443.Yeshuwa' (Chald.)). Therefore, "Yeshua" is actually an Aramaic rendering of "Yahushua".

Now, some claim that Yeshua is a pure Hebrew word which isn't derived from "Yahushua" at all, but that it is a Hebrew word meaning "Salvation". The problem with that is the Hebrew word for "Salvation" is not (yeshua) at all! The Hebrew word for "Salvation" is word number #3444. Take a look again in the above lexicon graphic and see the differences between 3442/3443 and 3444. They are:

There is an additional Hebrew letter at the end (the "Heh"). uses the silent (but anciently guttural) "Ayin" letter to end the word, but #3444 ends in the letter "Heh". While vowel letter under both words indicate they have have a similar sounding ending, the different spelling indicates they are two different words.

In #3444 (Yeshuwah) there is a different vowel pointing under the first Hebrew letter (Yod [remember Hebrew reads from right to left]). 3442/3443 (YESHUA) has 2 horizontal dots underneath the first letter like this: . These two horizontal dots represent the Hebrew Vowel point "Tsere" (pronounced Tsey-rey) which produces the "ey" sound as in the English word "Hey". But #3444 has two vertical dots underneath the first letter like this . The two vertical dots represent the Hebrew vowel point "Sheva" which is a very short "e", somewhat like our "E" sound in the word "Average" (Check the first page of your Strong's Hebrew Lexicon for verification of this).

Incidentally, the (Sheva) is also the vowel point used by the scribes in "Yehoshua" and it is why you will sometimes see "Yehoshua" or "Yeshua" written as "Y'hoshua" and "Y'shua". The purpose of the ' is to indicate the presence of the sheva vowel point in Hebrew. But as you can see, "Yeshua" does not contain that vowel point at all. "Yeshua" uses the "Tsere" Hebrew vowel point which produces an "ey" sound. So Yeshua and Y'shuah are actually pronounced differently. The Strong's Lexicon indicated this when it gave the pronunciation of as 'yay-shoo-ah', but #3444 as 'yesh-oo-aw'.
So the name "Yeshua" and the Hebrew word "Y'shuah" are not the same. "Yeshua" is the Aramaic form of "Yahushua" and "Y'shuah" is the Hebrew word for "Salvation". Therefore, in spite of what some may say, I find no evidence to suggest that("Yeshua") means "Salvation" in Hebrew. "Yeshua" is actually not an authentic Hebrew word meaning "salvation". For it to mean "Salvation" it would have to have the Hebrew letter "heh" added to the end of it, changing the spelling to Yod Shin Waw Ayin Heh and it would need to have the "Sheva" vowel point under the Yod. These things further indicate that "Yeshua" isn't from Hebrew, but is an Aramaic form of "Yahushua".

Since the Heavenly Father's name (Yahweh) is a Hebrew name, I would not expect to see His Son's name coming from some other language, whether it be Greek, Latin, Aramaic or English. If neither of these languages do it right, why not return to the original and correct form?

Yahusha

This form gaining in popularity fairly recently. However, it is easily proven to be incorrect. Let's examine the Strong's Lexicon entry that represents the Messiah's name again:

Notice in the Hebrew letters that there are two variant spellings of the Messiah's name here. The first spelling has 6 letters יהושוע and the second spelling has 5 letters יהושע. This is because both spellings are used in scripture. The predominant spelling is יהושע but the longer spelling is also found in scripture. Here are two places where the longer spelling is employed:

Deuteronomy 3:21 "And I commanded Joshua יהושוע at that time, saying, 'Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh your Elohim has done to these two kings; so will Yahweh do to all the kingdoms through which you pass.

Judges 2:7 So the people served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua יהושוע, who had seen all the great works of Yahweh which He had done for Israel.

Variant spellings are not uncommon in Hebrew (especially in names) and usually the longer spelling is the older form and the newer spelling was the result of an extra letter that was not needed.

The longer spelling is also found in the Dead Sea Scrolls (e.g. 4Q364 and Damascus Document 5:4).

We do not really need the extra "waw" ו to give us the "shua" sound but since the longer spelling is still being used in the scriptures, it proves that the Messiah's name cannot be "Yahusha."

Here is how each letter is pronounced:

י Yod - Produces a "Y" or "I" sound.

ה Heh - As a Hebrew vowel letter it can produce the "Ah" (like in #8283 "Sarah").

ו Waw - Also called "Vav". As a Hebrew vowel letter it can produce an "oo" (u) sound like in #7307 Ruach.

ש Shin - Produces the "sh" sound. The following "oo" sound is indicated by a vowel pointing but Deut. 3:21 and Judges 2:7 actually gives us another "waw" after this letter, proving the "shu" pronunciation as valid. This is why Strong's 3091 gives 2 possible spellings (see above lexicon graphic). This also eliminates "Yasha/Yahusha" and "Yahoshea/Yahushea" as being possibilities.

ו Waw - Again, produces an "oo" (u) sound as in #7307 Ruach. This is the ignored letter in the pronunciation "Yahusha". The fact that this spelling exists in the scriptures proves that the Messiah's name cannot be "Yahusha."

ע Ayin - Silent without a vowel point but indicates an "ah" sound at the end of "Yahushua".

Those who use "Yahusha" will claim that the "shua" ending cannot be correct and that "shua" actually means something else, but but "shua" sound is found in numerous verb forms which mean "salvation."

Here are some examples:

The Strong's word #3444 is pronounced "Yeshuah" but it is derived from #3467 "Yasha." This shows that the "shua" sound can indeed be derived from the root word for salvation, "Yasha." It's just the Passive Participle form of "Yasha."

The Aramaic form of Yahushua we discussed earlier uses "Yeshua" ישוע and just like יהושוע uses a "waw" ( ו )to give us the "shoo" sound in "shua." If the original Hebrew form were "Yahusha," the Aramaic form of the same name would not have been pronounced "Yeshua" (#3442) to begin with. But the Aramaic form is found in the scriptures in 29 verses of inspired scripture (e.g. 1Chron 24:11, 2Chron. 31:15, Strong's #3442).

The Greek form of the name "Iesous" gives us an "oo" sound at the end of the name. Since the "Iesous" form is found in the Septuagint, a translation of the scriptures into Greek that was completed 200 years before Messiah came, it shows that the "oo" sound existed at the end of Yahushua prior to the time that Yahushua came and died for our sins.

The Masoretic Hebrew vowel points give us a "shua" ending as well. That's why all Hebrew lexicons give us the "shua" pronunciation in this name.
Thus, in spite of those who claim it cannot, the Messiah's name can have the "shua" sound even though it is derived from "yasha" (meaning "salvation") and there are clear examples in the scripture where "Yahusha" would be an impossible rendition of the Messiah's name.

So the pronunciation "Yahusha" can be proven wrong by simply looking at the scriptures and knowing that in order to arrive at the "Yahusha" pronunciation, we would need to ignore the scriptures which clearly have a ו (oo sound) after the ש (sh sound). Ignoring scripture is not something I want to participate in.

Yahshua

This is another popular way of writing the Messiah's name but I have never seen an example of this word anywhere in scripture.

It appears to have its origins in the Sacred Name movement in the 1930's when certain men saw that "Jesus" was derived from "Joshua". Since they understood that the "J" sound is not in the Hebrew language, "Yahshua" was apparently considered correct. It made sense so I used this form for many years. However, I later learned that "Yahshua" clearly ignores the third letter of the Messiah's name (Waw) which gives us the "oo" (u) sound in Yahushua. To demonstrate this, let's look at the individual letters of .

י Yod - Produces a "Y" or "I" sound.

ה Heh - As a Hebrew vowel letter it produces the "Ah" or "Oh" sound (like in #8283 "Sarah" and #8010 Sh'lomoh). Otherwise produces the "H" sound and the "ah" sound would have to be supplied by the reader.

ו Waw - Also called "Vav". As a Hebrew vowel letter it produces an "oo" (u) or "oh" sound (like in #7307 Ruach). Otherwise produces a "W" sound. This is the ignored letter in the pronunciation "Yahshua". This letter is nowhere represented. Where is the W or initial U??

ש Shin - Produces the "sh" sound. The following "oo" sound is indicated by a vowel pointing but Deut. 3:21 and Judges 2:7 actually gives us another "waw" after this letter, proving the "shu" pronunciation as valid. This is why Strong's 3091 gives 2 possible spellings (see above lexicon graphic). This also eliminates "Yasha/Yahusha" and "Yahoshea/Yahushea" as being possibilities.

ע Ayin - Silent without a vowel point but indicates an "ah" sound at the end of "Yahushua".

So if the Messiah's name was "Yahshua", we would have to delete the third letter (waw) in . For this reason, cannot not be pronounced "Yahshua".

There are some who claim that "Yahshua" is actually the correct pronunciation of the Aramaic word ("Yeshua") and the Hebrew scribes simply took out the proper vowel sounds, replacing the "Yah" with "Ye". But as mentioned before,is not a legitimate Hebrew word. Also, as seen in the above scans of the Strong's Lexicon (and the Hebrew manuscripts as well), the scribes used the "Sheva" vowel pointing to replace the "Ah" sound in "Yahweh" and "Yahushua", not the "Tsere" vowel pointing as is found in the name "Yeshua". If they were interested in changing the vocalization of "Yeshua" to fit their tradition, one would expect them to use the as they did in and all of the other names beginning with "Yah".

Why use Yahushua?

Since we seek to walk in the truth, we should want to proclaim His name as Yahweh gave it. Yahweh is the one who named His Son and we simply have no business changing it. It is all these changes that have brought about the confusion. It can be complicated to sort through it all, but truth seeking is an honorable thing that is pleasing in Yahweh's eyes.

Of course, if we are somehow unable to pronounce the Messiah's name, certainly Yahweh is able to show mercy. But if we are able to, what reason do we have to continue in error? It is better to cleave to what Yahweh gave rather than continuing in the traditions and mistakes of men. Continuing in error is never superior to walking in the truth.

Yahweh predicted what His Son's name would be, so we have something we can look to for clarification. In the book of Zechariah, it states:

Zechariah 6:9-13 And the word of Yahweh came unto me, saying, 10 Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah; 11 Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua [YAHUSHUA] the son of Josedech, the high priest; 12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh Yahweh of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of Yahweh: 13 Even he shall build the temple of Yahweh; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
"The Branch" is a prophetic reference to the coming Messiah who would be a Priest AND King (Compare Psallm 110, Isaiah 9:6).

So Zechariah was instructed to take a crown and place it on the head of Yahushua (in the Hebrew it has ), the son of Yahutsadak. Yahutsadak means "Yahweh is righteous". When placing the crown on the head of the High Priest, Zechariah was told to proclaim:

"Behold the man whose NAME is the BRANCH".

Thus, this High Priest (Yahushua) had the same name as the coming Messiah who would reign as a priest on His throne. Yahweh revealed what His name would be, so why not call Him by that name? We see the examples of the apostles who were proclaiming His name, baptizing in His name, healing in His name, being persecuted for His name, etc. Let's be willing to do the same by using the Messiah's name as it is written and understood in Hebrew with a very important Hebrew meaning:

Yahweh saves!
