Maine Activist Condemns Elitist Lawmakers Pushing Homosexual Agenda
Also, Wisconsin Church Combats Same-Sex 'Marriage' Activists With Truth

(AgapePress) - For the third time in recent years, voters in Maine will go to the voting booth to stop the homosexual agenda being forced on them by activists and their own legislature.
Michael Heath is executive director of the Christian Civic League of Maine. He says homosexual activists began targeting New England in the 1970s, and one of the long-term results is full-blown legalized same-sex "marriage" in Massachusetts -- a reality forced on the people by four activist judges. But Heath says in the early 1990s his group decided to go on the offensive against homosexual activism. And as a result of their and other groups' pro-family efforts, in 1998 and again in 2000 the voters of Maine said no to same-sex marriage.
However, activists and elitist politicians are at it again, the pro-family spokesman says, "and now our current governor is ignoring those two previous decisions made by all the people of Maine voting in those two elections, and passed the exact same bill that was twice rejected in the legislature without a referendum provision."
What that means, Heath contends, is that the 186 "elitist politicians in the State House have decided that the people are wrong and they are right. So now there's going to be a third vote in six years. It'll happen in November, and it's on the exact same question."
But this time, the CCLM executive director points out, the homosexual marriage issue is couched in a much broader, more dangerous bill. "Actually it's on a form of gay rights that's more extreme than we've ever seen," he says, "but it's very similar to what the people of Maine have twice rejected."
Heath says homosexual activists and allies in the legislature just do not seem to get it -- that ordinary citizens in Maine will not accept having the radical homosexual agenda forced down their throats. Therefore, he asserts, this fall the people of Maine will get a chance to make their will clear yet again by voting against the sweeping homosexual rights bill being pushed on them by elitist state legislators.
Pro-Homosexuals Plan Offensive; Wisconsin Church Fights Back
Meanwhile, the homosexual agenda continues its offensives in other U.S. states. Last week the pro-homosexual Human Rights Campaign announced its $50,000 contribution to Action Wisconsin to fund its fight against an amendment to the state constitution barring the recognition of homosexual marriages and civil unions. In the wake of this cash infusion, Action Wisconsin's leaders have boasted of their plans to "hire a campaign manager, build a data system to manage voter information, and put together a robust field plan."
But one Wisconsin church is developing a strategy of its own. Pilgrims Covenant Church in Monroe does weekly literature drops at homes around the state, leaving brochures dealing with homosexuality, and also making the material available to others who are willing to distribute them door-to-door. The church's intent, according to Pastor Ralph Ovadal, is to inform the public and raise awareness about the proposed same-sex marriage ban.
"If the proposed amendment to the Wisconsin constitution is to be approved by the people of Wisconsin," Ovadal says, "the people must be reached with the truth about the amendment. Thirty-five thousand Wisconsin families have already had that information delivered to their doorsteps, and this fall we even intend to intensify our efforts."
The minister-activist, who served for 11 years as director of the pro-family group Wisconsin Christians United, notes that Pilgrim Covenant Church is now including a special insert on the amendment in its literature-drop materials. "We firmly believe that our brochures on homosexuality and our flyer on the marriage amendment are a combination that will convince many citizens to vote in favor of the amendment," he says.
The ministry of Wisconsin Christians United was recently absorbed into the work of Pilgrims Covenant Church. Ovadal says the congregation's "quiet door-to-door, heart-by-heart campaign" will continue until the statewide referendum on the marriage amendment is held in 2006.

I wanted to post this Betty; let us remember our brothers Gary and DanielS, who have so faithfuly fought for repentance and reform in the United Methodist church, before having to walk away themselves; I am sure that these kinds of headlines come to them with great pain and heartbreak. I have a friend who is struggling right now with the apostasy in the United Methodist church as a lay pastor in a tiny church that has been without a pastor for many years now; I know that he is torn not leaving these without sound doctrine and not wanting to remain affilliated with what seems to be an organization completely lost in apostasy. Lets hold up the brothers that have fought the good fight and continue to fight the good fight until God releases them to go.
Methodist Retreat Center Hosting Pro-Homosexual Rally Over Labor Day Weekend

(AgapePress) - The official retreat center for the Southeast Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church is taking heat for its plans to host a convocation put on by major pro-homosexual caucus groups within Methodism.
The Labor Day weekend conference at Lake Junaluska in North Carolina will focus on how to lobby to overturn the church's teachings on marriage and sex, and lobby for the acceptance of same-sex "marriage" and practicing homosexual clergy. Called "Hearts of Fire," the conference is being organized by the pro-homosexual Methodist group Reconciling Congregations. According to that group's website, one forum will "explore the development of transgender and gender queer spirituality" as well as the "sources of gendering." Participants are encouraged to "come with a robust interest in all things gender, whether or not they themselves are gender non-normative."
Mark Tooley directs the United Methodist Action program at the Institute on Religion and Democracy in Washington, DC. He believes Lake Junaluska should not be renting the facility to Reconciling Congregations, which he describes as of the UMC's most vocal critics on marriage and sexual ethics.

"Obviously this is very disturbing to a lot of United Methodists, in that Lake Junaluska is owned by what is probably the most conservative and most theologically orthodox part of the church," Tooley observes. He says Lake Junaluska itself has its own internal standards that say it will not rent a facility to groups that do not support basic church teachings.
"It seems highly inappropriate to rent those facilities for a rally for same-sex 'marriage,' homosexual clergy, and various exotic forms of sexual expression," he adds.
But Joetta Rinehart, a spokeswomen for the retreat and convention center, says she believes the mission of Reconciling Congregations is compatible with the denomination's Book of Discipline. That book of law for the UMC affirms God's love for homosexuals, but calls homosexual practice "incompatible with Christian teaching."
The IRD spokesman supposes that should a group from the gaming or tobacco-growing industry wish to rent the facility, it would be turned away in deference to the UMC's beliefs regarding gambling and smoking. "But for some reason," he notes, "opposition to the United Methodist teachings on one of the foremost issues confronting our culture today -- the definition of marriage -- did not disqualify [this] event."
Tooley is urging United Methodists -- especially those in the Southeast -- to express their displeasure with the retreat center.
"I would challenge Lake Junaluska to remain faithful to the church of which it is a central part, to carry out and be faithful to its own internal standards, and not to rent its facility to a group that is dramatically and very publicly opposed to the church's teachings on issues that are very important to both the Church and society right now," he says.
Among the seven liberal bishops scheduled to speak at the event is Joe Sprague of Illinois, who has publicly denied the virgin birth, blood atonement, and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. Also expected to speak is Beth Stroud, an openly lesbian Methodist minister from Philadelphia who was recently defrocked. Musical entertainment on the last evening of the four-day rally is to be provided by Jason & deMarco, two "spirit pop artists" who were featured in a July 2004 homosexual magazine article entitled "Singing for God and Gays."
