this is my first post here, so obviously I don't have any credibility with you, but I feel I need to ask this question.

background: my wife over the past 4 years has been suffering from a neurological disorder that has progressed from simple imbalance to need of a wheelchair and assistance for many tasks. It's been frustrating and difficult for her to adapt to the new lifestyle, and from everything that we've read and discussed with the neurologist she won't be recovering but could "manage symptoms" better (i.e. more strength).

In a discussion recently she mentioned that there isn't a day when she doesn't consider suicide, and that she has nothing to live for.

We are both Christians, and I pray these various things:

"Lord, please help my wife to be healed, to walk upright, and to glorify you."

"Lord, please provide a miracle and heal her, or take her home to end the suffering."

"Lord, help her to trust you. Help me to trust you too."

How should I react to something like this? If she will continue to get worse, does she really have anything to live for? Why shouldn't she take all the pills in the cabinet and just go to sleep?

I am so sorry about your Wife and the problems she has encountered. James 5:14; states the if there are any sick among you, anoit them with Oil.

Waht I suggest to you is to take some olive Oil and dip your finger in it. As you say a prayer for her, touch her forehead with the oil. Pray for God to intervene in healing her.

I know God can Heal, it is His promise.

I am so sorry that your spouse has been suffering neurologically; however, inspite of this suffering there can be peace. I was told I would never walk nor be competent again. On Feb 4, 1978 after getting out of church and then stopping at a stop sign and waking up three days later, I was told a drunk driver hit me head on. The jaws of life had to be used to clutch my hanging body outside the passagenger side. The seat belt I was wearing was ripped with such force, that I clung on by a noose. After regaining my faculty I came to realize a drunk drive hit me head on. I was on active duty in the Army. Even 10 years after the accident, I still was having glass coming out of my body. The military sought to discharge me, but with God's help and guidance I witnessed for him. I often wonder what was the worse suffering that ever occurred. It wasn't until I saw the movie called Passion directed by Mel Gibson that I could recognize a mere glimpse of Christ's suffering. It was so vivid that it sank into my bones and marrow. The Via dolorosa impaled me. I knew from that moment nothing I could ever experience could ever come close to what Jesus went through in making the way solid to the Father. My grandma would say, if you are not suffering then there is no attacks from Satan going on. My prayers will be for you and your spouse to be able withstand these physical ailments and glorify Jesus until He comes or until you are called to glory.

In the book of Isaiah, << Isaiah 53:5 >>But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

When you think about chastisement what do you think of? What does that really mean? The chastisment of our peace was on Him.

Related to CHASTISE

Synonyms: baste, bawl out, berate, call down, castigate, scold, chew out, dress down, flay, hammer, jaw, keelhaul, lambaste (or lambast), lecture, rag, rail (at or against), rant (at), rate, ream (out), rebuke, reprimand, reproach, score, tongue-lash, upbraid

The Lord himself will make a way of an escape when your situational suffering unbearable. I know I have been there,

In all things think and place your situation in light of someone elses situations and perhaps your suffering can help a wee one or a lost one recognize who Jesus is.

You've been given some good advise here. To that I would add reassure your wife of your love for her and how important she is to you. Never let her see any frustration you may have caring for her. May God bless you both.
