I suppose here is as good a place to post this as any.

Does anyone here follow this show? And if so, do you believe Red John has been captured and killed already?

We like watching murder mysteries, and recently got hooked on the show and did as we did with the Smallville series, rented the shows of previous seasons that we missed and watched them all in blocks of three and four episodes at a sitting.

With the Mentalist, the arc of Red John weaves its way through most episodes with little but significant clues throughout.

The secretary at CBI who slew the team investigating Red John so Jane could be put back on the case, for example, gave a very significant clue... when walking to her jail cell after Jane interrogated her...

...in the heavy security cell block a man seen only from behind dressed in khaki walked towards the prisoner and the guards escorting her back to her cell...

...the only one to react to him was the prisoner so he must have been a normal fixture in the criminal justice system. She recognized him and she lit up like a candle with the same admiration on her face as when she just spoke of her devotion to Red John.

This faceless man (to the tv audience) wiped a nerve agent across her hand as they passed and she was on the floor dying in seconds.

In the episode where Jane was cellophaned to a chair immobile by the copycat killers (using Red John's m.o.) and Red John shot the copycats and murdered the woman... he said a poem to Jane...

Tiger tiger burning bright...

The very words the detective who burned to death in the interrogation room said in his dying breath to Jane.

Tiger tiger...

I believe he was Red John and his final act of screwing with Jane's mind was to prove to him that though they caught him... they didn't know it was him at the time. And that he took his own life rather than giving Jane the opportunity or satisfaction of avenging his wife and daughter upon him.

In the masked episode, Red John also said the "psychic" sent her regards and was very fond of him. IMHO she was Red John's relative perhaps sister. And to throw fans off the trail of what I pieced together above, there may be some very convincing Red John murders in the future of the show only to turn out to be done by the sister who Jane and CBI worked with on several cases.

Plausible?

I watch the show and look for Red John to show up later in the season if not the last show of the series. I think they will just keep teasing us for now.

The Mentalist is my favorite show. Red John will be back...many more times to come. He probably won't be caught until the final episode, many years from now. He's Patrick Jayne's nemesis and the writer's will milk it for as long as they can. [type]
