Along with the difference between live and dead churches my pastor also went through three types of churches. Here are the characteristics of each one. Which one is your church.

Risk Taker
ie Church in Philadelphia Rev. 3:7-13
-daring
-boldly plan for the future
-excited about ministry
-have great faith
-there's an open door before them
-recognize their limitation and need for God
-hold fast to the Word of God
-Theme song "Onward Christian Soldiers"

Caretaker
ie Church in Laodicea Rev. 3:14-22
-duty oriented (do what is right)
-plan for today
-they're just going through the motions
-neither cold nor hot
-want everything to stay the same
-Theme song "Hold down the Fort"

Undertaker
ie Church in Sardis Rev 3:1-6
-dead
-always reflect on yesterday
-favorite thing is tradition
-Theme song "When the Saints go marching in"
