Walk Plainer
Author unknown

Walk a little plainer daddy,
Said a little boy so frail.
I'm following in your footsteps and
I don't want to fail.

Sometimes your steps are very plain:
Sometimes they are so hard to see.
So walk a little plainer daddy,
For you are leading me.

I know that once you walked this way many years ago
And what you did along the way,
I'd really like to know.
For sometimes when I am tempted,
I don't know what to do.

So walk a little plainer daddy,
For I must follow you.
Someday when I'm grown up,
You're like I want to be.
Then I will have a little boy
who will want to follow me,

And I would want to lead him right
And help him to be true.
So walk a little plainer daddy,
For I must follow you.

IMPORTANT ROLE OF FATHERHOOD
Dr. Mark Crawford
Reprinted with permission... Norma Daulton

36% of all children live in a fatherless home.

50% of all children in the United Sates will spend part of their childhood in a home without a father.

The United States leads the world in fatherless families.

Out of 102 prime time, network programs, only 15 shows feature a father as a central recurring figure.

A child today, will spend more time watching television by age 6 than he spends with his dad for the rest of his life.

The average teen will spend 21 hours a week watching television and just 35 minutes a day talking with their father.

The average child spends about 15 minutes a day of quality time with a parent.

90% of inner-city kids, who grow up in a stable two-parent home, do not fall into criminal activity.

For children who live with their fathers, 26% of those fathers live in a different state.

40% of children who do not live with their fathers have not seen him in the past year.

Father Involvement: The single most important childhood factor that determines empathy as an adult.

WHEN THE FATHER IS ABSENT:

The rate of abuse in the home doubles.

The rate of crime and delinquency doubles.

The dropout rate doubles.

The rate of drug and alcohol use increases.

HOW FATHERS CAN ASSURE THEIR CHILD THEY ARE LOVED:

Tell them you love them. Don't assume they know just because you bring home the bread.

Show them you love them. Children need to be rocked, held, and hugged.

Share scriptures with them.
Play with them.

Here's another poem for all fathers everywhere...

Dad's Prayer

Last night my little boy confessed to me
Some childish wrong;
And kneeling at my knee
He prayed with tears ---
"Dear God, make me a man
Like Daddy --- wise and strong,
I know you can."

Then while he slept
I knelt beside his bed,
Confessed my sins,
And prayed with low-bowed head,
"Oh God, make me a child
Like my child here ---
Pure, guiltless,
Trusting Thee with faith sincere."

A little one needs Daddy
For many, many things:
Like holding me high off the ground
Where the sunlight sings!
Like being the deep music
That tells me all is right
When I awaken frantic with
The terrors of the night.

Like being the great mountain
That rises in my heart
And shows me how I might get home
When all else falls apart.

Like giving me the love
That is my sea and air,
So diving deep or soaring high
I'll always find him there.
