There is no repentance in the grave.
The rich man that died in Luke 16:19-31 had no chance of repentance after death. All those that die goes to the grave and whatever state they die in as it pertains to God's Word is the state they will spend eternity in.

There is a teaching that says the dead can be prayed out of hell into heaven called Purgatory. For it is beleived that if their soul wasn't the way is should have been that they are halfway between heaven and hell.

But God's Word tells us there is nothing we can do for anyone that is in hell our prayers cannot help them. Yet purgatory is suppose to be a temporary cleansing of the sin period where those that are there are tortured with fire. So in other words sound like they are in hell already but through prayer they can be released.

There is no repentance in the Grave! Whatever state one die in is the same state they will spend eternity in.

The theory of a purgatory, or the intermediate state of suffering between heaven and hell for the discipline and purification of those who finally are to enter heaven, belongs to the Roman church. It is part of an elaborate system of doctrine concerning the souls of the departed developed by medieval theology. It has no foundation in Scripture and is even opposed by such Scriptures as pronounce those “who die in the Lord” as “blessed” or “with Christ.” It dishonors the perfect atonement of our Lord and has led to the great abuse of the sale of masses for the dead.

Purgatory was invented by the Catholic Church for profit. People whose loved ones who died unsaved were promised by the Catholic Church that they could pray them in Heaven by paying for Masses and paying to light candles. I knew a lady who did not pray for husband to get saved or even talk to him about God, because she said to me that she could pray him in to Heaven after his death. I believe God, Himself will judge the Catholic Church. Also it is no accident that the Catholic Church will be used by the anti-Christ to usher in his one world religion. The prophet for the anti-Christ will most likely be a Pope. Not that other Churches are not jumping on the bandwagon of one world religion. Many Churches in America have forsaken the truth of the Gospel and have become more concerned about being PC. But the Catholic Church will bear the shame of the prophet for the devil coming from their Church. I believe God will allow that because of there adding purgatory and praying to Mary to the Gospel.
