OK, so Im wondering what makes a song or group christian?

What is acceptable listening for a christian, with respect to music?

Its kind of a broad couple questions, but I want your opinions on this.

I hope others chime in, because I don't think my view on this topic may be the most widely held one.

What makes a group a Christian group? The most important element is of course that the musicians are each Christian. Their lyrics should reflect that. I withhold that criteria as to their on-stage style and form of music, because there are Christian groups of all kinds, from folk to metal to rap. The Bible says "make a joyful noise" unto the Lord.

As to the music itself and what is "safe" listening...

If a listener takes special care only to listen to Christian or "religious" music, and possibly even believes that is the only option according to firm personal boundaries, I can only call that a choice. If that's what someone needs / wants / prefers... may the Lord bless them. I personally do not believe we are to cower from anything the world throws at us, for we are not given to a spirit of fear. Trying to "block out" everything deemed ungodly is quite a little chore, and may distract a person from more productive pursuits in following the Lord.

My own opinion regarding music: I realize some Christians regard any music that does not directly reflect a Christian message in its content, to be satanic by default. I do not agree with that. By that logic, even a beautiful instrumental recording with no lyrics becomes devilish. Howz-that-work??? Does that mean a hymn in church becomes sinful unless the choir sings?? Yeah, I'm being a bit silly here, but it makes my point. [Wink]

Again... just an opinion. All are welcome to disagree.

No I agree with that opinion, but what if any would you deem as unexceptable music for a christian to listen to?
