MySavingGrace,

There are many other charities. A very good way for you to find them is to look in the yellow pages of your telephone directory under social services and they'll all be listed there alphabetically. The listing will show their address as well as their telephone number. God bless.

You can also call area Churches to see which ones they are invovled with. Our Baptist Church is involved with alot of charities, including a organization that helps unwed pregant moms. In Houston there was a ministry that was a group of area Churches that gave food and clothing to poor people young and old and homeless. We worked with them for 5 years as volunteers. Most cites have a food bank you could volunteer for. Some hospitals have volunter workers.

MySavingGrace,

Under the social services listings in your telephone directory you will also see Catholic Charities listed and they have a variety of social services. Salvation Army and Lutheran Family services also have a variety of social services. There are also centers that have food banks and clothing banks. Usually all of the social services are listed under social services in the yellow pages of the telephone directory.
Churches will help but usually it's only to their own parishoners who attend their particular church.

My Saving Grace

This what I liked about the organization that we were apart of. We were on the board for 5 years. We had members from all the area Churches from most all the denomations (JW and Mormon did not join) but from all Christian Churches. Our building was seperate from any Church so that people of all faiths and non-Christians felt at ease to come. That orgnazation has been in operation over 20 years.
We are not as able to do as we used to physically, but God still opens doors hear and now for us to help someone. You can do little things for your neighbors in the name of Jesus.

I don't know how you are finacially, but one thing that someone did that impressed me was to put in a little plastic bag: a can of tuna fish or potty meat, crackers, plastic knife, a juice drink, and a napkin. She would give them to people begging for food on the side of the road. I think it would be neat to do that and put a Gospel track in each one.

MySavingGrace,

Since you would like to do volunteer work too an excellent way to find out what those opportunities are is to call the various social service agencies for quite often they are in need of volunteers. Also quite often volunteer opportunities are listed in the newspaper. God bless.
