There is a local hockey team near where the rest of my family lives. Sometimes when I visit, I enjoy going to the games, since there is a team near where I live in the same league. It is considered a professional league, although it is not the NHL, it is the UHL (United Hockey League). At times, several of us have gone to games.

My brother has announced that he and his family will not participate, as he doesn't feel it is right to go to such things. If anyone else here feels the same way, can you enlighten me on why this may be? I have yet to hear any reasoning back from him on it, so just wondering what others may think. I love sports, and love attending the occasional sporting event. I don't see anything wrong with it. Any thoughts?

The Word tells us in Romans 14, that one might esteem one thing unclean, that another might not, but that each should be fully pursuaded in their own mind.

The game, violence, general atmosphere might be a stumbling-block for your Brother, and the Lord might be calling upon him to refrain. It would be good to visit with him about it, and he might give you some insight into his concerns. If he feels called to refrain then one should honor his commitment.

The same Church my dad's family that was against wedding rings was against sports. But, I believe they were wrong. I see no danger in supporting your fav team. The only danger would be if the game became more important than God.
The problem with a Church making man made rules is the people have a tendency to be self righteous and look down on other believers. I see that attitude through out dad's family.

I personally wouldn't embrace such a view - it is being too legalistic in my opinon.
