I don't know if this is unusual, but there are reports on this site of activity for volcanoes all over the place:

Reports since Feb. 1st:
Mt. Kilauea, Hawaii- lava reaching the ocean (not too unusual, one of the world's most active volcanoes)

Manam Volcano, Papua,New Guinea - Huge, massive eruption last week destroyed the volcano observatory and continued eruptions have killed at least 12 people and displaced many from their homes. This is the third and most intense eruption of this volcano since October, 2004. This is the largest eruption in the world in the past 12 months.

Mayon Volcano, Phillipines - increasing seismic activity observed the past 24 hours

Anatahan Volcano, Marianna Islands - citizens of Guam suffering severe respiratory distress from eruption of this volcano which began late January. This volcano was never recorded to be active prior to 2003 and this is its 3rd eruption since then.
Large earthquake of 6.2 hit Guam Wednesday, Feb. 2nd.

Kliuchevskoi Volcano, Russia - Mudflows rushing down the hillsides and lava bombs up to 15m in diameter (~45 feet!) have been expelled. Huge steam emissions up to 1 km high have been reported in the past week.

Mt. Etna Volcano, Italy - Ash emissions, dense columns of black smoke, and lava flows are ongoing. Very active volcano, always)

Ebeko Volcano, Russia - Increased seismic activity and steam emissions (300-500 meters high), constant smell of sulfur, and the disappearance of a lake on the mountain on January 30th lead scientists to believe an eruption may be imminent.

Veniaminof Vocano, Alaska,US Ash and steam being emitted, air travel restrivted in the area.

Miyake-Jima Volcano, Japan - Gas still being emitted from a volcano that erupted violently 4 and 1/2 years ago, but residents are now being allowed to retun to their homes as dangerou activity is subsiding.
