A headline in a local daily paper read this morning:" The U.S. Election - Religion & Rock'N Roll." Here are just a few excerpts -
"Forget the war in Iraq and the economy. It is religion that will decide the American presidential election this year. The United States is the most devout of the world's industrialized nations and Pres. Bush is the most openly religious president in decades. He speaks in a language that religious conservatives understand.
In the 2000 election, Bush won 87 per cent of the votes cast by Southern Baptists, Pentecostals and others on the religious right, as well as 57 per cent of the votes by Catholics who attend church frequently
Mr. Bush makes no secret of his values. He is a born-again Christian, and talks openly and often about his own conversion and how that commitment to Christ helped him quit drinking."

(You don't know how fortunate you are folks. After 9/11 there was a memorial on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Not one prayer or recognition of God was acknowledged in the ceremony by the Prime Minister, Governor General or others. This put a cloud over our nation and our country has experienced some unfortunate mishaps since then.)

Continuing with the article - " How America's stars are Rockin' the vote -Countless musicians, actors, visual artists, fashion designers, filmmakers, and authors are using every shred of influence they have to encourage young people to vote in the upcoming U.S. presidential election. And more often than not, they're also calling a ballot against George W. Bush.

While Rock the Vote continues to rally celebrities and pushes people to vote, it has been had limited success in the past. The difference this time around is the sheer number of artists getting involved, and the urgency of their messages, which have reached fever pitch. Many celebrities are taking a hands-on approach and leading their own initiatives" Their message? 'Elect John Kerry.'"

(Apparently, Kerry's aides have pled for him to discuss his faith more openly, and he has made a weak attempt in these closings weeks to do so, but do we really know how important his faith is??

In spite of the overwhelming support by rock stars, and other high-profile celebrities for Kerry, the polls are saying that Bush and Kerry are running pretty well neck in neck. However, that was a few days ago I heard this - maybe it has changed since then.

Pray about this folks and get out and vote.)
