MOSCOW [MENL] -- Russia and Syria are resuming military cooperation talks that include the construction of a nuclear facility in the Arab country.

Russian officials said the military cooperation talks will take place on Wednesday during the visit of Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam to Moscow. They said Khaddam will discuss the prospect of new arms sales to Damascus.

The officials did not cite the focus of Syrian interest. But the London-based Al Hayat daily reported on Wednesday that Damascus is interested in anti-aircraft systems, including the S-300 surface-to-air missile battery.

Al Hayat said Syria also has sought to acquire armored systems from Russia. The newspaper did not elaborate.
