Security Council Says ''No Way''

The White House intends to go before the UN Security Council to request immunity from prosecution for war crimes by the new world court. The administration fears US troops will be targeted for prosecution for political reasons. According to UN officials, the proposed US resolution has virtually no chance of survival. Said one diplomat of the resolution, "it won't even need a veto." Such a resolution would need nine votes out of fifteen. Any of the five permanent members could kill the resolution by veto even if it passed. And France has indicated that it has its pen filled and ready, just in case. It is no prophecy to predict that US peacekeepers will be among the first to stand before the court, should the administration be foolish enough to contribute troops to future UN peacekeeping efforts. The World Court -- which the US has refused to ratify -- is set to open in two weeks. "

IMHO...perhaps we should not get involved in any peacekeeping missions then? (That's not going to happen though, not with our War On Terror"-coffeehubby
