"A high-tech way to deliver God's Word."

Balaam’s Donkey

Num 22:30 Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden, ever since I became yours, to this day?

I was talking to somebody the other day and remarked, “If I had a dollar for every mistake I’ve made, I’d be a rich man.” They responded, “If I had a dime, I’d be rich.” They were being more honest than I was!(Smile)

The older I get, the more I realize that God doesn’t use me because of any particular ability I have, He uses me in spite of them.(Smile) That leads me to the title of today’s Meditation: “Balaam’s Donkey.” I realize that if God was able to speak through a donkey, there is some hope for me.(Smile)

My friend, if you thought the individual that writes these Meditations is somehow super-Spiritual, dream on. “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.”(Rom 7:18,19

Yes, I’m just a “donkey” attempting to do the best I can for Jesus, and at best, I fall far short! However, I haven’t dropped by today to confess my sins to you; I do that to God. What I want you to realize is that we’re all human. Anyone who claims they don’t make mistakes, probably tell other lies also!(Smile)

Therefore, if you make a mistake, or just plain do what you know is wrong, you have a Father in Heaven, who like the “prodigal” son’s father, observes you when you’re “still a great way off,” and He has “compassion on you”, and He is waiting to “[fall on your neck and kiss you]!”(Luke 15:20)

Yes, you, like me, may make a “donkey” out of yourself, nonetheless, your Father has “compassion on you!” He’s waiting for you to “[come to your senses],”(V:17) and “arise and go to [your] father,” and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,”(V:18) forgive me!

My friend, your Father isn’t waiting with a big stick, to flail on your back-side, no, He’s ready to say “Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”(Luke 15:22-24)

No, God never approves of, nor overlooks your sin. Notwithstanding, He still loves you and it’s His nature “that [He] should make merry and be glad, for [you were] dead and [are] alive again, and was lost and [are] found.”(Luke 15:32 )

Now, if God rejoices when you mess up, and then run back to Him, what right have you, to condemn yourself? Yes, you may have made a “donkey” out of yourself, but in God’s eyes, you’re His child.

Come to think of it; you’re really somebody!
