Psalm 139:14-16 (NIV)

14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

15My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Matthew 10:29-31 (NIV)

29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

God Doesn't Make Mistakes, People Do

A co-worker and I got into quite a lengthy discussion yesterday about single parents and having children out of wedlock. She was surprised that I don't feel that it's an automatic to get married just because you get pregnant. I guess being a Christian, most would probably be surprised I feel that way. Now, if the couple was engaged, or planning on getting married, then I think they should go ahead and move up the date before the baby is born. But, as it was back in the day, I don't feel that getting married is automatically "the right thing to do".

So, this conversation went down several paths, and one was talking about how people say their pregnancy was an "accident" or a "mistake". I don't like to hear it when someone refers to a child as their little "accident", or even "surprise". It just has a negative connotation to it. But, it got me thinking about God's plans for our lives, and how the Bible says He knew us before we were woven together in the womb. As I was reflecting on that, it occurred to me, "God doesn't make mistakes, people do". Ok, I know this may not be an amazing revelation, or an epiphany for anyone but me. If God knows us before we are woven together, then there is no way a baby coming into this world could be an accident. Now, maybe we messed up what God had planned for us, but that's no one's fault but our own. I take great comfort in knowing that God MEANT for me to be here, I'm not here just by mere happenstance!
