This is a story about my best friend Everdine and her husband Jan. Last year the doctors told them that it was absolutely impossible to have children of their own. This to the grief of them and me, as her best friend. A lot of people have prayed and prayed, and in April this year Everdine called me up saying she was pregnant. The doctors said this was a true miracle. I was so happy for them. In October Everdine emailed me that she had pre-eclampsy and had to avoid activities that required energy and also that the baby had stopped growing. So we all prayed and the baby started to grow again. Two weeks ago everything seemed just fine. Everdine was doing well and so was the baby. Thursday I phoned my mother about something else and she told me that Everdine was in the ICU at the hospital and they had to do a Ceasarian section to get the baby out. Later I called Jan and he told me the whole story. Thursday Everdine had a routine check up and way too much proteins in her urine. She was sent to the hospital the next day. In the night her bloodpressure rose to serious heights and in the morning they had to get the baby to save the mother's life. Little Joas has been in an incubator for twenty hours to be monitored and because he was three weeks early, but the next day he began to learn to be breast fed and when I called Jan, Joas was in the room with Everdine and both were doing very well. Friday they have come home and Saturday they are having a birth party. Everdine still has to take it easy, but I have called her today and both mother and child are doing well. I am so relieved. Everdine and I are as close as sisters and so I am going to be like an aunt for little Joas.
Just wanted to share this story.
