His lord said unto him, well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. {Matt. 25:21}

Why is it that most individuals impatiently desire more responsibility, whether on their job or in the church, before they have proven themselves to be faithful? For some reason this seems to be a part of human nature. The Lord clearly revealed that we grow in responsibilities as we demonstrate faithfulness.

Philip the evangelist was first called to be a saint, then a server, and then a spreader of the gospel. As a saint he lived a godly life, showing loyalty, and faithfulness to the body of Christ, to the apostles, and to the Lord Jesus. Philip was a true servant who served behind the scenes, not caring who received the credit as long as the work pleased the Lord.
