2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto thessalonica.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in Him

Matthew 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfullness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruifful.

With love in Christ, Daniel

Demas turned away and left Paul and in doing so one might say that he left doing the will of Christ. He turned away for the love of this present world for he was more concern about the temporal things than he was about Christ Jesus.

Luke 9:62 says;
No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back is fit for the Kingdom of God.

The Bible does not say that Demas was saved, but rather he, for a time, had fellowship with the beloved.

Why did he leave? Consider his leaving in light of 1Johh 2:19

1Jo 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would [no doubt] have continued with us: but [they went out], that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

No scripture doesn't say Demas was or was not saved.

But, for a while he was among the stedfast beleivers, just as some christians in the past were and today. Who later turn their backs on the faith. Demas stuck with Paul in dangerous times when Paul was imprisoned in Rome.
And he was specficly mentioned with Luke in Colossians 4:10-16 with other followers of the gospel.

Sadly every one who follows the Gospel are not saved. Some people attend Church for financial gains. This I know for a fact. My Daughter's Pastor talked to a person who used to be a member of his Church, who left to go to another one that was of questionable beliefs. When asked why, he said he could make more contacts for his job.
Some go to impress a potential mate.
Why did Demas stay for the ship wreck only to leave later? It is possible he endured for a time to impress Paul. Men have done less to impress others.

The Bible does not say if Demas ever came back. Only God and Demas knows that. It is also possible for a Christian to turn their back not on salvation, but on Church attendance and working for God. The Bible says God will rebuke them and if they still resist God will chastise them.

Just as the prodical (sorry not sure about spelling) son came back home, there is hope for God's wayward children to come back.
