1 John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Eden here: I was wondering, in other places in the Bible the LORD tells us to enjoy the land:

Joshua 1:15
... then you shall return to the land of your possession and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

So when the Bible says:

1 John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

What part of the world should we not love? I mean, I love the trees and the sky and when a moment of love occurs between people, what then should I not love of the world?

Good Morning Eden,
I remember in bible study last year we were studying bible hermenuetics. We were looking at the word "world" in different contexts. Depending on the context it had different meaning to it. In the verse that you are adressing I remember that the word "world" had more to do with "worldly ambitions" and "worldly values" as opposed to the beautiful land and seas. I personally believe that it the verse also means that we should have our deep seated passion for the Lord and not for anything in this life.

With love in Christ, Daniel

THe 1 John passage can't possibly mean that we are not to love creation, however it is manifested, whether in trees and seas or in people. Jesus said that he was sent because God himself LOVED the world, so why would he insist that we not love it? We are supposed to love what he loves and hate what he hates. I think 1 John means the world's systems, the world's ways, the world's priorities and world's standards -- in otherwords the KINGDOM, or rule of the world rather than the kingdom, or rule of God.

I concur. "For God so loved the world..." and then there's "Love not the world...".

I think of two different "worlds" when I consider those passages. In the first example the "world" means "people". In the second example the "world" means "the systems within the world designed by the enemy": i.e. politics, health care, education, commerce, entertainment, etc.

Oh, and i like to paraphrase that last part: "love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father cannot really flow through him."

Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Think of it as loving two different women. One will take you to the cleaners and leave you alone, penny less and destroyed, the other will give you a life time of happiness. You better pick the one that brings happiness rather than the one that will rip you apart. If you love the wrong one, the other won't want to have anything to do with you so you better pick the right one.

If you will turn to Jesus and pray, "Lord Jesus, i don't want anyone, or anything in my heart but you," then you will know what it is to love not the world. An amazing thing will happen; the revelation that you are living His life! Not that He owns it, and tells you what to do, no, it is His life living in you. He is living His life through you if you are Born Again. You are living by Him. He gives you the desires of your heart. His thoughts, feelings and desires are yours. You live, and are guided by His thoughts, feelings, and desires. The best ever: In fact, His best, for our highest. And this, if it is boiled down to a single act is called, simply, a change of heart. Pray this prayer! (Will ye love the world? Will ye abide in sin?)
