I'm sure this is well known, but it got me to thinking, has the US ever gone into a country to help and left it? or, has any country we have 'helped' ever become a free democratic or republic society where the people were happy we came (and left), or are glad we are still there?

Don't get me wrong. I am for our troops. I am for THEM. I hope not a one of them would die. I am FOR the constitutional Republic. {good thing i'm stealthed and crypographically inclined}

But when I start to remember where we are in the world, it is not what I normally think of as a picture of as spreading freedom:
