BESLAN, RUSSIA (ANS) -- A father and son team from ASSIST Ministries have launched an urgent appeal to Christians around the world to help a group of Russian Christians build a much-needed Comfort and Reconciliation Center in Beslan, scene of the worst terror-related human catastrophe in the history of Russia.

They are Dan Wooding, 64, the founder of ASSIST Ministries and his son, Peter, 36, who heads up ASSIST Europe in the United Kingdom and who is also the senior news editor of UCB Europe, a Christian radio and TV network based in Stoke on Trent, England.

“There were at least 335 victims, mostly children, who died as a direct result of this terror act that took place in the Russian town of Beslan in North Ossetia in early September,” said Dan Wooding, who also founded the ASSIST News Service (ANS) which is based in Garden Grove, California.

“The crisis ended after shooting broke out on September 3, 2004 and now a Russian pastor, the Rev. Igor “Nikki” Nikitin, president of the Association of Christian Churches in Russia (ACCR), based in St. Petersburg, who has been to Beslan on several occasions, has launched a plan to build a Comfort and Reconciliation Center in the shell-shocked town. “We would like to ask Christians around the world to generously support this vital plan that will be bring the love of Jesus to the survivors of this terrible event, particularly the children there. We hope that also churches will take up a special offering for this project to show as a ‘body’ that they care deeply for the people of Beslan.”

COMFORT AND RECONCILIATION CENTER

In a recent interview with Dan Wooding in Lima, Peru, Pastor Nikitin talked about how the Association of Christian Churches (ACCR) is planning to build in Beslan the center to bring physical, psychological and spiritual help to the people there following the siege.
