Church hopes online project sends a message

News reports about schools that have banned Christmas carols because they are too religious and people who advertise holiday trees rather than Christmas trees have left Rob Ludwig wanting to bring Jesus back into the season.

So Ludwig, parish administrator at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, decided to send Jesus a birthday card — online.

"This is just a way to remember that this is all about Jesus' birthday," Ludwig said.

The site, www.happybirthdayjesus.org, was launched yesterday with support from St. Martin parish and some local businesses. The church and the sponsors are covering the cost of the site, which they hope will reach people around the world.

The Web site doesn't collect any personal information. If they want to join in wishing Jesus a happy birthday, those who sign on simply enter their name and the city where they live.

Ludwig said he hopes that the Web site will attract thousands, if not millions, of names as a way to measure good will.

In order to sign this Happy Birthday card for Jesus you need to click on the news story internet address which will take you to the site. Then you click on the internet address that's contained in the news story and it will bring up the card for you to sign.
