Reconciliation Walk Seeks to `Reverse the Damage` of Slave Trade

A group of African and European Christians will visit the United States this fall with a message of repentance and apology over the slave trade. The initiative by Lifeline Expedition, affiliated with Youth With A Mission (YWAM), will feature white marchers wearing chains on their hands and yokes on their necks while being escorted by black people,...

While I can see where they are coming from, I worry that this will cause young black people to hate whites. I mean no white person alive today has owned a slave. I believe slavery was sinful but I think it is wrong to punish people living today for sins from several generations ago.

Thanks for the post David. Interesting topic and one that won't seem to go away (racism). It has also affected my life since 3 out of 4 of my sisters married African Americans.

"We're not divisive in saying, 'Here's black, here's white,'" said Pott, who with his wife, Pam, joined YWAM in 1988. "We're saying, 'We are brothers and sisters in our common humanity.'"
Isn't this statement contradictive? Doesn't just saying, 'Here's black, here's white,' divisive? I mean, if we are truly going to be 'brothers and sisters', then what difference is the color of our skin?

quote:
"A huge part of the tragedy of what happened years ago is that it was supported by Christians," said Palmer, who works for YWAM. "As Christians, we're asking for forgiveness because we were in the wrong."
"WE"? I believe we were not alive during this time period. And when you start talking this way, you can open a big can of worms. Alan Keyes who I respected before has come out in favor of reparations. That is the road we will be going down if we start to think like this. Many of our ancestors made mistakes and took part in tragedies but if we try and make amends for them, we will have a flood of lawsuits that will destroy our country and possibly the world.

[Mad] Just shows you what times we live in. Yeah, that's a good idea, let's enslave the whites for what their ancestors did. Just goes to show you the mentality on the extreme left. Sad...

Just think of how many lawsuits will abound.

I could sue myself! ^_^ In fact, many of us could sue our own selves. Anyone out there of Irish descent? What about Native American descent? Sue the ones who are purely English descent! Are you black? Then you could sue both the blacks (who sold your ancestors into slavery) and the whites (for buying them)! Same goes for the Chinese. Oh wait! What about the white people in L.A. who get oppressed and attacked for simply being white! Sue the blacks! What about the Mexicans who got ran off their land during the expansion west? Sue both the blacks and the whites! And the Japanese who forced into camps during WWII! Sue everyone who calls themselves an American!

It'll be so pleasant, won't it! -_-; "I find you guilty of the deeds of your ancestors. Please pay yourself reperations". Lovely. Just lovely.

Question: If we do not (necessarily) have the same Father how can we be brothers?

This "brotherhood of man" notion is of the anti-Christ. It's the spirit that prompts the Christian to shake hands with the muslim.

I have friends connected to YWAM. I'm going to look into this further. Perhaps it is just this man's position and not YWAM's.
