Creationist Ministry Rebuts Evolutionist Magazine Article

By Allie Martin
July 12, 2002

(AgapePress) - A Kentucky-based ministry which defends creationism has responded to an article denouncing the biblical view of the world's origins.

Recently the magazine Scientific American published an article titled "15 Answers to Creationist Nonsense." The article supposedly had the best arguments evolutionists could use to discredit the Bible account of creation.

Within 72 hours, a resident scientist at Answers In Genesis in Australia had written a point-by-point rebuttal of the magazine article and posted it on the ministry's website. Mark Looy, a spokesman for Answers in Gensis, says the ministry responded quickly for a reason.

"The arguments presented [in the magazine] clearly indicated they did not understand creation science, and actually misrepresented us," Looy says. "So ... we posted a very detailed web response at AnswersInGenesis.org. We took their article [and] reproduced it on our website, but we clearly indicated by different color text and by explaining it that this is what they said and here's our rebuttals."

According to Looy, Scientific American is now trying to have the rebuttal removed from the web and is threatening a lawsuit, claiming Answers In Genesis infringed their copyright. But he says the ministry had already checked with a copyright attorney and established the usage fell within the doctrine of "fair use."

Looy says the web rebuttal will not be taken from the website. AiG is still awaiting the magazine's response to that decision.
