Hi Betty,

I just came across the following study scriptures online and thought of your post:

FALSE TEACHERS

Taken from the HOLY BIBLE: NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (C) 1978 by the New
York Bible Society, used by permission of Zondervan Bible Publishers.

MAT 5:19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and
teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of
heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called
great in the kingdom of heaven.

15:9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by
men.'"

ROM 16:17 I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions
and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have
learned. Keep away from them.

18 For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own
appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive
people.

1CO 3:11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already
laid, which is Jesus Christ.

21 So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours,

11:18 In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church,
there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it.

19 No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you
have God's approval.

2CO 2:17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On
the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent
from God.

11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's
cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure
devotion to Christ.

4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we
preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received,
or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily
enough.

GAL 1:6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who
called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--

7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you
into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than
the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!

EPH 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the
waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the
cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.

COL 2:4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding
arguments.

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive
philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of
this world rather than on Christ.

18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of
angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail
about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle
notions.

19 He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body,
supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God
causes it to grow.

20 Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why,
as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules:

21 "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"?

22 These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on
human commands and teachings.

23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-
imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the
body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

1TI 1:3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus
so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer

4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote
controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith.

6 Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk.

7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are
talking about or what they so confidently affirm.

19 holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and
so have shipwrecked their faith.

4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the
faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have
been seared as with a hot iron.

3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain
foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who
believe and who know the truth.

7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather,
train yourself to be godly.

6:3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound
instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,

4 he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in
controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife,
malicious talk, evil suspicions

5 and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed
of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from
godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge,

21 which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith.
Grace be with you.

2TI 2:14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against
quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.

16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more
and more ungodly.

17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and
Philetus,

18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection
has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.

3:6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over
weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all
kinds of evil desires,

7 always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the
truth--men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are
rejected.

9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men,
their folly will be clear to everyone.

13 while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and
being deceived.

4:3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.
Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great
number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

TIT 3:10 Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time.
After that, have nothing to do with him.

11 You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-
condemned.

HEB 13:9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is
good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods,
which are of no value to those who eat them.

2PE 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there
will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive
heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift
destruction on themselves.

2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth
into disrepute.

3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have
made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their
destruction has not been sleeping.

14 With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the
unstable; they are experts in greed--an accursed brood!

15 They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of
Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness.

16 But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey--a beast without
speech--who spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

17 These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm.
Blackest darkness is reserved for them.

18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful
desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping
from those who live in error.

19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of
depravity--for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.

1JO 4:3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.
This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and
even now is already in the world.

2JO 1:7 Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in
the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver
and the antichrist.

9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ
does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father
and the Son.

10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take
him into your house or welcome him.

11 Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.

JUD 1:4 For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have
secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace
of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only
Sovereign and Lord.

11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for
profit into Balaam's error; they have been destroyed in Korah's rebellion.

Did you know that we are told not to allow people who teach a different Gospel in our home or even to bless them?
I did not know this and although I don't allow them in my home, I have told them "God bless you".

2Jo 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into [your] house, neither bid him God speed:
For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
