Dear Lord, Father
As we take on another new year before your return, I feel the mounting presence of dread. This nation is slowly turning its back, or at least the multitude that still serve You are being ridiculed and shoved day by day to silence. I see it happening, Lord--I am not blind to it. When ever I read a newspaper, listen to a radio broadcast or turn on the TV. A country that once boldly proclaimed You, is now being cajoled and manipulated into thinking Your Grace is a myth to be out-grown as people become more intellectual and "spiritually aware." If only they could reach up and feel with their hands the spiritual tar that has closed their eyes shut to the truth.
I cannot make a nation of people do my bidding, Lord, but I can affect myself... and if one speck on the map can humble itself and accept your healing, Father... here I am.
A speck on the map that shows to the universe that the opposition hasn't accomplished a shut-out. And let more specks sparkle, Lord. As we humble ourselves before Your sovereign power.
With warts and all, Lord, I thank You for the forgiveness of my sin, purchased at the cross with the blood of Your son, who is You, and was with You at the beginning, as St. John reminds us.
Thank You for your triumph over the tomb, that gives the promise of eternal life.
Thank You for these, and all Your blessings, of which we deserve nothing, but have through Your holy Grace.
Empower me, Father, to take on what You have set before me, according to Your will, and the fire of light You have placed in my heart to follow. You are exalted above everything and everyone else, in my heart.
I proclaim these things in the name of Christ Jesus, amen.
