PROJECT NASCE
Project Nasce is an international and interdenominational philanthropic missionary organization which aims to work with the people of Portuguese –speaking nations, developing their skills of people in five areas: Nutrition, Agriculture, Health, Biblical Growth, and Education.
The project’s name is made up of the initial letters of the Portuguese words for these areas of activity (the Portuguese word for health is saúde), and also means “birth “in Portuguese.
Our strategy and principal goal is to train, equip, and establish. We believe that a nation or community which is equipped with the ability to meet its own needs will grow in social, economic, moral, and spiritual well-being-resulting in progressive and sustainable development in their region.
We are evangelicals! We preach and live the Gospel of the our Lord Jesus Christ, believing that God is not only interested in the human soul but also in restoration of the whole man, giving him health and dignity.
Goals within each area of Pronasce
Nutrition
• Set up basic nutrition projects
• Train nutritionists in each community
• Reduce the incidence of malnutrition
Agriculture
• Educate agricultural technicians from the communities
• Give instruction in new ways of planting and cultivating crops
• Help improve social conditions by instilling an appreciation and application of agricultural knowledge, using community projects to put this knowledge in practice
• Where possible, support local agricultural and animal-husbandry activities
Health
• Educate primary health workers within their communities
• Give instruction in alternative medicine
• Make preventative health care practicable
• Provide information to promote healthy living
Biblical Growth
• Give bible courses
• Recruit and train new church leaders
• Equip people to make disciples
• Strengthen local churches and Christian organizations
Education
• Train adult literacy instructors
• Develop educational projects appropriate to the needs and nature of the community
• Make schooling and balanced community education accessible to all, giving special attention to children and youth
The five areas are interrelated in theory and practice, resulting in limitless opportunities for the development of ideas, activities and projects which work towards our primary goal: restoration of the whole man by improving his quality of life.
Our work is mainly the Portuguese –speaking communities found all over the world: Mozambique(where we are currently active), Brazil, Portugal , the Azores, Angola, Guinea Bissau, the Cape Verde islands, Macau, Goa, East Timor, São Tomé and Príncipe, and the island of Madeira (did you know that Portuguese is the eighth most widely spoken language ?).
In order to attain its goals, Pronasce organizes 30-day trips to these countries, taking teams of professionals who will train members of the local community in the five areas already mentioned so that the community can take the steps needed to improve their quality of life. Pronasce also sends full time missionaries to live and work in the above-mentioned countries for two to four years.
How is this project supported?
In order to have an international reach while remaining a non-profit organization, Pronasce relies on partners, supporters, and co-workers from many countries – whether churches, charitable organizations, businesses or individuals. A small part of our funding comes from the sale of the T-shirts of CDs, and of books published by the project.
Pronasce in Pontalina – Goiás
Pronasce has decided to establish its base within the area of Pontalina in the Brazilian state of Goiás. The administrative and logistical functions will be located here – for example the accommodation, training centre, and pilot projects.
We chose this region because the town of Pontalina has good conditions in which to establish this enterprise and build it up, and has many opportunities for medium and long-term activities aimed at improving the living conditions of the population – especially the lower income groups. This gives our teams practical experience of the work which they will do during the expeditions to other countries. Another very important factor is the need to promote our methods among the Portuguese-speaking peoples, developing in Pontalina and its area the ideas and projects which will be shared with these peoples spread around the world.
The facilities of Pronasce will be located in two parts the municipality: most of the facilities will be constructed in the rural area, but the administrative functions will operate from the town of Pontalina.
How can you participate?
We need you support and involvement in this integrated missionary endeavour.
You can be involved in various ways:
a) as a professional in one or more of the areas in which Pronasce is active;
b) using your expertise to participate in the development of project within these areas;
c) joining our 30- day missionary trips, or becoming a full-time missionary serving in the field;
d) praying for the nations that are being reached and the Pronasce missionaries who are working with them;
e) telling other about the work of Pronasce;
f) assisting in the activities of Pronasce as a volunteer, whether or not you are professionally trained;
g) being a partner and financial supporter.
To make all these plans viable we need churches, organizations, enterprises and individuals who will support us by means of financial gifts that will be used to acquire the resources needed to turn the plans into reality. We believe that God supports us through the generosity and commitment of those who understand and live the words of His Son Jesus Christ: “It is better to give than to receive”.
As already mentioned, we are a non-profit organization. We are seeking supporters who will invest in God’s Kingdom by aiding and sustaining those who – irrespective of tribe, tongue, or religion – need outside help in order to have a better life.
