Sadly there are many who think they are saved but are not. Some because, they said a prayer as a child or an adult but never actually became saved. Some who think they are saved because their mom or dad is saved. Others who think they are saved, because they attend Church occasionally and drop money in the offering.
Unfortunately, some will not listen to the truth, because their hearts are hardened.
We keep on sharing the Good News, and pray for God to open hearts to hear the truth.
We share the Good News but God does the saving. Only God knows if a person will accept the truth even if it is with the final breathe in this world they breathe.

I agree Grandma but I think that it is to easy for a person to say this prayer and say I'm saved when it says that the path to rightiousness is narrow and the path to hell is broad. Many times I have seen prople I am with witnessing on the streets to all types and they have said this prayer without the least indication of what it is to follow in the footstepS of Christ which is to be "Christian". Say the Lords prayer if you must but to quote a prayer from some publication called the "sinners prayer" NO WAY. HERESY!! [dance]

Does a Sinner's prayer exist?

Yes, every time a sinner repents and accepts Jesus as their Savior and Lord, he or she has said a sinner's prayer. Is there a prayer that is a quick fix? No. Salvation is a relationship with Jesus, not a quick prayer that we say and then keep living like our old sinful ways. Why did they come up with a sinner's prayer? Probably because when a person gets saved what ever age, they are a baby in spiritual matters. It is not the prayer that saves us but the blood of Jesus. Words in a prayer do not save us, but a simple prayer is all most new Christians can say.
Should we do away with the sinner's prayer? I don't think so. Many young children have been saved from praying the sinner's prayer. I was 7 when I got saved. At 7, I did not understand what a relationship with God was, but thankfully, God was patient with me and was willing to deal with me as I grew physically and spiritually. I disagree with doing away with the "sinner’s prayer". But we should make it clear to new Christians that getting saved is just the first step in the rest of our life of having a daily relationship with God. New Christians should be encouraged to read the Bible and pray every day.

Where do Christians get the idea tat they are justified in creating a prayer and marketing it to the public as a cure all?

6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9"This, then, is how you should pray:
" 'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.[a]' 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.mat 6:6-13(NIV)

So why are we consistently accepting this plagerisim of God's word. It is nothing short of hipocracy. Am I the only one who notices this?
I think that we, as brothers and sisters in Christ, must stand up to this kind of heresy. Every time that I see a site with the sinners prayer on it I e-mail a comment as to what God's word says about prayer and how they are erronous in posting or printing such a prayer.
