1 Thess. 5:
1: But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2: For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3: For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4: But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5: Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6: Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
The Word of God is TRUE and His children await the coming of the Bridegroom.

The Comfort of Christ's Coming
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who *sleep in Jesus.
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

I'm seeking understanding here. What's the purpose of this particular forum? To what end does it serve to watch for end time events in the news? Didn't Jesus deliver the smackdown to his disciples when they started bugging him about the return of the kingdom? Aren't we explicitly instructed as disciples of Christ to not worry about such things, as 1) we have absolutely no control over it and 2) it distracts from the mission?
Morever, hasn't every single person who has ever layed claim to knowing when the end time was to arrive been undeniably and completely wrong?
Again, please do not infer a judgemental tone in my text, I am simply seeking understanding.
