When I replaced my cell phone two years ago, my new one has this technology. I can "turn it off", but that doesn't mean they can't track my phone. From my understanding, you wouldn't need to actually make a call for them to track you.

I don't remember the purpose of being able to turn it off, but the manual said even with it turned off, the phone could still be tracked. I think maybe if it's enabled, you can call customer service & they can help you better or something, maybe if you're lost. But, if it's turned off, maybe it can only be accessed in emergencies, like if you're missing or something.

Loverly... I wonder how long before T-Mobile tells me I've got to get a new phone?

They can put a chip in my phone, that I don't care about... but they're not gonna put any chips or tattoo's in or on my body! They can have my head first [Wink]

Yes, it is incredible what the cell phone companies are spending to comply with this regulation. They had to send my husband a brand new PDA phone, because they could not activate the one he has. The guy at verizon Data Support says it really does not matter whether we want the technology eventually all non e-911 compliant phones will have to be replaced. And when they send you an new one that is compliant, you have to send them your old non compliant one.

Thanks for the news HFHS...Interestingly enough my wife came home today excited that she got to upgrade for "free" to a new cell phone...

I guess that one will have the gps technology in it...I hope I can talk her into keeping the old one.

Yep you are right Texas Grandma, but I tell you I do not like all this stuff I see; it gives me the creeps; like the woman who said to me I welcome anything they want to do to prevent IDentity theft when we were discussing figerprint scanning for credit card id. Just gives me the creeps!!!

I can relate to the safety and security issues as well; when my oldest was 17, she got lost on the Cheyenne River near the Badlands while tubing with a friend and the nights here get dangerously cold and there are mountain lions and cyote to contend with; they had to call search and rescue out with planes to find them and it might have brought me a lot of comfort if in those days she had a GPS capable cell phone, but safety and security in this world will come at a price that I am not thinking I am willing to pay;yes, we will keep pir cell phones, but they are just one more reminder of the things that are to come; I just hope that Jesus does come soon, because it is going to get much worse.

I am kinda glad about that, cause we do not have a house phone. We use a cell phone that our son bought on his plan and pays for. I had been worried that in case of emergency (hubby has had two small strokes) that if I called 911, they would never find us. Because, basically in emergency suitations, I am a basket case. But, my son assured me that they could track me by my phone. As far the triublation, the best thing we can do is keep our faith in Jesus and make the rapture.

I have not known about this; but apparently this has been in the works for sometime. My husband bought a PDA phone and when he went to our cellualr company to have his number switched they told us that after 6/1/05 they could by federal Law no longer hook up phones that did not have GPS capabilities.

This is being done under the guise of safety and security of course; you know if you are stranded in a blizard and call 911 from your cell phone they need to be able to track your precise latitude and longitude coordinates so as to know where to send help.

This is a brief note on it from the FCC webiste:
*************************************************
911 Services
911 is the official national emergency number in the United States and Canada. Dialing 911 quickly connects you to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) dispatcher trained to route your call to local emergency medical, fire, and law enforcement agencies.

The 911 network is a vital part of our nation's emergency response and disaster preparedness system. Upgrades in this network to provide emergency help more quickly and effectively are constantly being made. For example, most 911 systems now automatically report the telephone number and location of 911 calls made from wireline phones, a capability called Enhanced 911 or E911.

The FCC has also established a program requiring wireless telephone carriers to provide E911 capability. When fully implemented, wireless E911 will provide the precise location of 911 calls from wireless phones.

The wireless E911 program is an important part of the FCC's programs to apply modern communications technology to public safety.

************************************************

So, everyone should certainly feel more safe now. As of now, phones must have GPS capability or they will not be activated; those that are activated without GPS capability will eventually have to be replaced.

So, if the day comes that you find yourself still here and needing to stay in contact with your fellow believers who have not accepted the mark, do not use your cell phone...they will know exactly and precisely where you are if you use your cell phone.
[spiny]

Oh, wait, I guess you would not be able to buy cell service then anyway. ....Dont borrow a phone either!
