Why is this necessary? This is a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. What is it so popular to fear children? This isn't going to prevent kids from bringing guns to school... all it will accomplish is to find out if some kid is getting a free ride on the schoolbus. from another school.
This is in response to what? Does this have anything to do with columbine or related school shootings? I think the reason kids are so f***ed up these days is because we try to control their thoughts too much, and tell them "this is the way society percieves reality, so don't question it."
Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are or where our race is headed. There has been the "authorities"; the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempt to comfort us by giving us "order", "rules" and "regulations", informing, and forming in our minds their view of reality.
To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable open-mindedness, confused vulnerability to inform yourself.
We're teaching our kids not to question authority. But the only way for them to think for themselves is for them to be able to have the freedom to question authority.

This is certainly nothing new. Forgive my "newbieness", but has anyone heard of Digital Angel, Applied Digital/VeriChip, RFID, etc? Fingerprinting has been widely used (like driver's licenses, criminal activity, children's records, etc), but only now are we getting into placing things into the skin as ID.
In fact, it has been said in at least a couple places, that the ideal places to put it is in the right hand (considering most people are right-handed), or the forehead (for those without a right hand).
At least one person and many animals have already implemented these chips, and people are talking about it. Soon it will become passe, then be accepted as normal. When that happens, I bet the next thing in ID tech itself is the mark.

Personal edentification have been for years now, the thing is that now it is been use more.

We have to be careful about were we draw the line... If we allow personal identifation to develop it is only a matter of time before we are all forced to have a mark on us.

That is not a bad idea! Banks,Prison,Schools and many others use the thumb as a signature. This is not new it is just been stended out.
I remember that the only means for the driver to know who I was, it was by a tag in my t-shirt.
The uniqueness of the lines in your finger are quite hard to brake. Line upon Line.
