Bob,

The God that spoke the universe in existence has protected the Bible through out the centuries. I trust a God and His Holy Bible.

Betty,
I thought that you might disagree with me because of that text. That translation of the Greek text was made by "church" translators. It is not exactly what the Greek text states and the intent of Paul's guidance to Timothy. I know, because I have translated that text from its Greek wording. If you are interested in my perspective on this text, I'll be glad to give it to you privately. You might also check the translation of this passage in "The Cotton Patch Version of the New Testament" by Clarence Jordan. You can check it out at http://rockhay.tripod.com/cottonpatch/timothy-2.htm.

Bob,
Thank you for responding. You and I differ on one point. I believe every word written in the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The Bible is not a document to me.

2 Timothy 3:16 King James Version (KJV)

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Hi Betty,
It is nice to see your response to my comment. I understand your point. In my life and years of service in my relationship with God, I have been trying to hear and to follow the "wisdom" of his direct and personal call and instructions to me apart from any effort to get them from something that I read in the Bible (like Proverbs or Romans) or in some statement of a theologian in a book of historic systematic theology. The "Helper" is the divine Spirit who dwells within my heart and not a set of documents to be processed by my mind.

Bob,
I believe it is the attitude that we have when we read Proverbs. I forget the man behind the pen and remember that God gave the words to Solomon. If we do this, then we are open to the wisdom of GOD.

Proverbs is full of a lot of "wise" sayings from the "wise" king Solomon, but I feel that much of their impact is lost when I note that he apparently didn't follow much of his own advice and he suffered the loss of most of his kingdom when his materialist son took it over. Solomon was apparently more effective in teaching the value of his idols and the glory of his kingdom than he was in teaching the humble wise will of his God.

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,(KILLING THE UN-BORN)
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, (The later day Democrat's)
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.(The MSM)
20 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman

That is all.....
