1 Timothy 5:5-8

KJV 5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. 6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. 7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. 8 But if any provide not
for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

ECB 5 And she who is a widow indeed, and alone, hopes in Elohim and abides in petitions and prayers night and day: 6 and she who luxuriates, is dead while she lives: 7 and evangelize these - that they be unapprehendable. 8 And if anyone provides not for his own and specially for those of his own house, he denies the trust and is worse than the trustless.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

5 This is referring to a woman who is left without family to care for her a woman truly on her own, could refer to a woman with children who are young and not at the age to work. If she had boys it was for them to care for her, if she had a brother in law it was for him to care for her, if she had a brother he could have cared for her until she was able to remarry. Widows should focus on God and what they are missing, we should do this as well and go to God for what we need, He will provide, sometimes what we think we need is not what we need, He plans are far better.

6 There were widows who do whatever they wanted since they were not married, this often was sinful actions. Our pleasures are something we are best to give God full control over.

7 God has given us instructions so we can stay out of trouble, we should follow His instructions because He knows what is best for us and wants our best.

8 It was the families responsibility to care for each other if we are not caring for our family how can we care for the world and how is the love of God in us, most likely it is not if we are uncaring, this does not we may be unable to help at times or that we need to have them accept that they need help in other ways. Christ took care of physical needs but did not ignore the spiritually he took care of both; we should look at all their needs not just the physical needs.
