Take it a step further and look at generational names in other books of the bible - like the new testament.

1) Adam= hevrew-Adomah means man. 2)Seth= appointed Gen.4:25 3) Enosh= Hebrew root word "anash" to be incurable meaning fortal, frail,miserable 4)Kenan= meaning sorrow, dirge, elegy. 5) Mahalal 'El= The Blessed God, Mahalal means Blessed and El means the name of God 6)Jared- from the verb "yarahd" meaning "shall come down" 7) Enoch meaning "commencement or teaching" 8) Methuselah= Muth means "his death"-"shelac" a verb form meaning "bring or sent forth. Methuselah means "His death shall bring" 9) Lamech- meaning despairing from which we get lament or lamentation. 10) Noah- derived from "Nacham" meaning comfort or rest. Gen. 5:29 Put in order this is what they say, "Man appointed mortal sorrow, the Blessed God shall come down teaching His death shall bring despairing rest." Even in the names, God was showing us the hope of His Son.
