Washer said it well. God doesn't want you to 'work' for Him. That is what people want to do, only, what happens is that they end up putting first, 'working' for Him.

But one will find that he 'will be doing' what God wants him to, after he learns what it really means to put Christ first. And that is what God is truly after, for one to 'work' at discovering what HE means when he says to put HIM first, until one discovers it. Then one will find himself 'doing' the will of God spontaneously.

And faith, God meets us with faith when we believe unto Him. Then we know what to hope for. We do not have to 'choose' something and believe it. We can know what HE wants us to believe - by HIS Spirit.

What does God want you to do?

Some men asked, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” and Jesus answered, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” John 6:28-29. Believing in Jesus is the one thing that each of us must do to become right with God. Believing in Him is more than believing about Him. You believe about Him with your mind. Believing in Him is different ... it is an active response from the heart.

Imagine standing at the open door of an airplane that has lost its engines somewhere in mid-flight. If you stay on the plane, you will die. However, you have one chance to be saved. A parachute has been offered to you. You have always believed about parachutes ... but stepping out of that plane with one on your back requires more than mental belief. It also requires an active response of your will. You must believe in the parachute to be saved by the parachute. When you step out, it will carry you to safety. Stepping out of the plane in faith without a parachute isn’t enough. No amount of faith can replace a missing parachute. Moreover, you must have the right one. A faulty substitute cannot save you. A similar step of faith is necessary for your spiritual salvation. You must do more than believe about Jesus ... you must believe in Jesus. Your step of faith allows Him to save you. Be sure that you have taken that step.

What does God want you to do? He wants you to believe in Jesus. He wants you to take that step of faith. You need to put your trust in Him.

Ecc 12:12-14 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.

Mark 12:28-31 Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

John 6:39-40 Jesus said: ...this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

When people bring this subject up -- for a good analogy I often say, "if you could make someone love you or let them choose to love you which would you choose?"

They will often reply, "I would let them choose."

"Why?" I ask them, in reply.

"Because, it would mean more to me if they chose to love me -- it wouldn't mean very much if I forced them to love me," they say next.

"Exactly," I reply with a wink.

--------------------
With you I rise,
In you I sleep,
kneeling down I kiss your feet,
Grace abounds upon me now,
I once was lost
but now I'm found.
The gift of God dwells within,
To this love I now give in.

What does HE want from you? His Lordship. He wants it from YOU.

You may be astonished, as though, "how could he say such a thing?" He is already LORD. Well, you know, HE is all powerful. Do you realize that HE could squeeze the life out of you right now, stuff you into hell and deride you for eternity. But rather than do that, HE preferred to die. He did.

That's right. He preferred to die than accuse you for all eternity. And you see, HE is not forcing HIS Lordship upon you this day. He preferred to die rather than to do that. But HE is willing for you to make Him Lord, as in, He will not force it upon you. And that means HE wants your recognition of it by your submission. That is what will bless Him. That is what will make Him nigh to you.

Amen! And you can't do your own thing, and call Him Lord, and think it suffices. HE wants you to crown HIM Lord, because HE loves you so much that HE will not make you.
