The entire chapter 34 in Psalms is full of some wonderful stuff. Why don't you pull out your Bible and read it? Read it a couple of times. See what jumps out at you.

For people who are new to Bible study, there are some good reading plans, like this one from Bible Gateway:

Welcome to the Bible Gateway’s Bible reading plans! These reading plans walk you through the entire Bible over the course of a year. Reading through the Bible is a rewarding experience, and these plans can help you do it!

Using a reading plan is easy—just visit the daily reading page to see your daily reading. (You may want to bookmark that page by right-clicking on the link and choosing “Add to favorites/bookmarks”.) Your daily reading is also available via email, RSS, and iCal (links to each of those options are on the right side of the reading). If you miss a day or want to read ahead, you can use the calendar in the top right to navigate forward or backward through the reading plan.

There are several different reading plans to choose from, each guiding you through the text of the Bible via a different route. (Read about the different reading plans.) Each reading plan can be read in the Bible version of your choice.

Most of the reading plans start on January 1, but you’re free to join in at any time! When each plan ends, it cycles back to the beginning so that you can start over or catch up on what you missed. So, choose a reading plan and get ready for the incredible journey of reading through the entire Bible, one day at a time!

You are writing a Gospel,
A chapter each day,
By the deeds that you do
And the words that you say.
Men "read" what you "write",
Whether foolish or true:
Just what is the Gospel
According to you?

Amen, good article, Found in Him. It's amazing how many unsaved people have many very strong opinions about "Christianity", but they have never actually read the Bible themselves.

Andn probably there is no other area of life in which a person would be so opinionated, since in all other areas of life, the person would say that it is "stupid to have an opinion on something unles someone has actually studied a subject first".

Yet when it comes to the Bible, multiple unsaved people have many strong opinions about the Bible, mostly about "why it could not be true", without EVER having read the Bible, and that is really ASTONISHING.

But actually, to me, that phenomenon actually adds great value to the authenticity of the Bible, for if the Bible makes people act "so strangely", then there must be something about the Bible which no other book or item on earth contains.

love, Eden

Interesting thoughts! Jesus said that we are the salt of the Earth... with that thought in mind, I look at not only what I say to people...but what I live before them. Our actions and example can speak much louder than our words, can't they?

Great input you two..thank you!

The only way that someone would be able to know how wonderful God truly is would be for them to make the effort to "taste" God. They would have to make themselves work on finding out more about God.
Sir William Ramsay
Simon Greenleaf
C.S. Lewis
Lee Strobel

..to name a few. These are all highly educated men who came to faith because of intellectual efforts.

Others, like Spurgeon, came to faith because they were inspired.

Though Spurgeon was the son and grandson of ministers, as a child he never considered the vocation. His entry into the ministry can be blamed on serendipity. It happened in January 1850. Seeking refuge from a severe snowstorm, Spurgeon ducked into a Methodist chapel in Colchester. He was 15. The snow had kept the minister from the service, but a parishioner was reading from Isaiah 45: "Look upon me and be saved." The man turned to Spurgeon and told him he looked miserable and would continue to be unless he obeyed the Bible's text. In that moment, Spurgeon later recalled, he decided to give himself over to God's work.

That's true MentorsRiddle

Our Lord Jesus Christ knew long ahead of time what would happen, and He could have avoided it.

Or He could have called armies of angels to fight for Him. Or He could have blinded or paralyzed His tormentors.

But instead He washed His disciples' feet, knowing they would abandon Him.

Man o man. I want to be more like JESUS. Praise God! AMEN!

C, you said:
quote:
One complaint I have heard more than once is that God must be cruel because He sacrificed His own Son. He allowed His Son to be crucified.

What they don't understand is that God sacrificed HIMSELF to save His people. Jesus Christ is God incarnated.

This is because many people have a hard time understanding the trinity of God/Jesus/Holy Spirit.

I explain it to them like this:

God is like water, and can take three different forms, yet still be the same thing.

Vapor (when hot) God
Liquid (when above freezing) Jesus
Ice (when below freezing) Holy Spirit

Three different forms but the same being/thing.

Hope that analogy helps a bit.

But, even if they were 2 different beings and not the same... God did not kill Jesus nor command him to die.

Jesus laid his own life down of his own accord to forgive us of our sins.

He could have walked away, but chose to die because he loved us so much.

Because of his death he atoned for our sins.

With you I rise,
In you I sleep,
kneeling down I kiss your feet,
Grace abounds upon me now,
I once was lost
but now I'm found.
The gift of God dwells within,
To this love I now give in.

Some people decide that God is not worth knowing or even that God doesn't exist because they believe what they hear other people say about Him
Many people do base their decisions on God by what others tell them about God.

I've heard so many false things from people, concerning our Lord and God, that simply aren't true -- which they believe is true because "so-and-so" told them it was true...

and if "so-and-so" said it, then it has to be true. Etc.

That is just a sign of a influential mind, that can't truly think for it's self.

But that is no excuse... that is just people looking for a quick way out -- that way, when they listen to others, they don't have to read or research to better educate their selves -- but just have half truths masked as utter truth given to them.

SO they are willingly being lead astray.

Taste Him for Yourself!
"O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him."
Psalm 34:8

COMMENTS: If a waiter set a plate in front of you and there was a food item on that plate that you had never eaten before how would you know if you would like it or not? You could ask the waiter to describe how it tasted. The waiter would have to liken it to some other kind of food. If you liked the food to which it was compared then you might like it. You could smell it. If it smelled really bad you probably would guess that you wouldn't like it. If it looked unappetizing then you might make the assumption that you wouldn't like it.

There is only one way to really know if you would like that food item or not. You would have to taste it. You would actually have to put some of the food in your mouth. You would have to make yourself taste it.
Many people hear about God from other people and make decisions as to whether they will make the effort to get to know Him better. Some people decide that God is not worth knowing or even that God doesn't exist because they believe what they hear other people say about Him. Many people hear someone say that God is our Heavenly Father and decide that, since they had a bad relationship with their own human father, that they aren't interested in finding out more about God.

The only way that someone would be able to know how wonderful God truly is would be for them to make the effort to "taste" God. They would have to make themselves work on finding out more about God. They would have to, on purpose, read their Bible and spend time in communion with God. They would have to experience God for themselves in order to know for sure how wonderful He truly is!
Don't let someone else tell you how good God is. Don't be content to hear about the wonderful things that God is doing in other people's lives. Taste Him for yourself and see how much He loves you. Taste Him and find out why He created you. Taste Him and you will know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that He truly is GOOD!
The entire chapter 34 in Psalms is full of some wonderful stuff. Why don't you pull out your Bible and read it? Read it a couple of times. See what jumps out at you.
