Being CALLED by God usually takes on a special meaning, at least, what I draw from the bible.

First, God called on creative elements. Also, He called persons by name and changed their name calling them something else. He called Adam and Eve, He called Moses from the burning bush, and to the sleeping Samuel with important things to say. He calls on persons with important tasks and called people to follow him and become deciples. He calls on us to attend a feast. Callings shift from the message to the response.
Some refuse. Jesus came to his own, but his own did not receive him. The "called" are those who respond to his Gospel message. Those who have received the calling (invitation) enjoy the fellowship with him and look forward to even fuller glory to come. (even us frogs) rivit

Just think: Imagine Willie saying, "I'm going to 'run' this race! Won't my Lord be proud? All of those others had better wake up if they want to be like me, a true Christian." For sure, Willie represents the self-effort which some suppose will get them where they want to go, as though what they contribute is what God is looking for with their will power.

MICHAEL...I decided to respond to your message so you won't sit around and pout or go to talking to yourself again. lol

Something else about Willie, will he horse around so long that his mind quits working and he doesn't even know who Christ is?...Or much of anything else? I have seen a lot of that since caring for my mother in law and visiting rest homes. Willie may have a problem getting his wheel chair to catch up with the train. It will be the responsibility of someone else to get Willie on the train, and that isn't being called even if he could hear.

This is a new thread in continuation of the one Jus2 mak u think! And this is a good statement:
quote:
To be a Christian does mean that people must first have seen their own sinfulness and then to have personally asked Jesus to take their place in the punishment. And presumably only THOSE people are those who the Bible calls "chosen". It is not enough just to be born into a Christian family.

I like it! But to cast this in a different light, quite literally, everyone is called. At least, the 'offer' stands for everyone. Yet, few recognize any calling. And all of those who respond will therefore be considered the 'called'. Thereafter, some will be chosen from among the 'called'. It is a further degree of separation which indicates something, and is not an idle statement.

Now it could be considered that the chosen are those who fit the description forwarded by the likes of the Calvinists. These would be chosen as opposed to 'rejected'. In other words, they would be 'elected', and would have nothing to do with their coming to salvation. So, chosen! It could mean that also.

But I tend to believe that there are the 'self-elect', and there are the surrenderers. One group will fit the descripiton of Cain. The other will fit the description of Able.

And still, there are those who surrender, who taste of the world to come, who distain it, preferring instead 'love for the world', who in the end will not be 'chosen'. It goes back to the fact that it is a participation thing. Choosing the world means 'not' participating.

And here is how that works. Imagine a train to heaven. So too, imagine a flat-car, which people wishing to take the train to heaven can climb aboard. Well, imagine a train on the move, and visualize some people running along with it. You know, willie makit? But the idea of the flat car is to be 'seated' and to 'let' it carry you home. That is the idea of the flat car, i.e. the provision of Christ Jesus.

Now, imagine someone who wants to get off of the train to 'enjoy' the world, perhaps thinking he will 'catch' the next one. But he is ensnared! Again I ask, willie makit?

  • Mat 24:46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
    Mat 24:47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
    Mat 24:48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
    Mat 24:49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
    Mat 24:50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
    Mat 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
In other words, come out of the world (though there are those who will be sifted).
