Being CALLED is being ASKED TO DO SOMETHING.
That doesn't mean that everyone called will answer. I also believe that it has nothing to do with everyone or numbers, it is for an individual.
Called by the Holy Spirit, called to pastor, called to use a spiritual gift, etc.

Michael Harrison wrote quote: Many people get saved then they take it for granted that they are, and that is it! However, scripture says that "Many are called, but few are chosen." Now, a lot depends upon what that means, but what is it to be called, except to be 'saved'.
But if the phrase, "many are called", refers to the world at large, then the phrase, but few are chosen", would refer to ALL Christians, all of whom were "chosen out of the world":
John 17:6 I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave me out of the world: Yours they were and You gave them to Me; and they have kept Your word.
And what word have they kept?
John 6:29 Jesus said to them, This is the work of God, that you believe on Him whom He has sent.
Howbeit, there are some who say they are Christians but they were BORN into a Christian family and have not yet had their own personal realization of their sinfulness.
To be a Christian does mean that people must first have seen their own sinfulness and then to have personally asked Jesus to take their place in the punishment. And presumably only THOSE people are those who the Bible calls "chosen". It is not enough just to be born into a Christian family.
In any case, "many are called" may simply refer to the world at large, and not at all to "barely believing Christians".

And I would agree, however, the truth of the matter is that we 'participate'. That is something that OSAS'ers do not agree on.
And by the way, thanks for holding conversation! Everyone else has been bitten with the shy bug. I hear it is going around.

MICHAEL...You sure are asking a lot. First you want us to answer your question and you then want us to think too ?
Betcha, Betcha you could get some assorted answers to this one.
Yes, I do think that you should take your being saved for granted. Me thinks that is called faith. Christianity makes life better whether we like it or not. Living in heaven with God is something taken for granted because we cant even pretend to know what is in store for us.
Think I'll leave it at that for now.

Many people get saved then they take it for granted that they are, and that is it! However, scripture says that "Many are called, but few are chosen." Now, a lot depends upon what that means, but what is it to be called, except to be 'saved'. So, in light of the expression, "but few are chosen, could it mean that many are 'saved' but few get the reward of heaven? After all, being chosen is different than 'not' being chosen. Huh? And that the saved are the ones who are 'called' can be summarized like this: They lined up, didn't they? In other words, these are not the ones who did not respond.
I know that the OSAS crowd will howl, cut themselves, and throw bricks at anyone who dares to suggest that anyone who is saved has taken care of business, and no further care for it is needed, but what about the guy in the parable of the tares. One of those guys, after 'receiving the gift', didn't see anything 'good' come of it, though he had received it. In fact, he lost his. And also, in the gospels, Jesus speaks of fruit becoming 'ripe' before it is picked. Could that be what it means to be 'chosen'. So, what I am saying is, do you take what you have received for granted? Could that not be altogether wrong? Is there more? Jus2 make you think....
