"All Scripture is God-breathed” (2 Tim 3:16 NIV). The doctrine of the inspiration of Scripture is vitally important, and a doctrine that Satan has attacked from the beginning (“Yea, hath God said?” [Gen. 3:1]). It is inconceivable that God would give His people a book they could not trust. He is the God of truth (Deut. 32:4); Jesus is “the truth” (John 14:6); and the “Spirit is truth” (1 John 5:6). Jesus said of the Scriptures, “Thy Word is truth” (John 17:17).
The Holy Spirit of God used men of God to write the Word of God (2 Peter 1:20-21). The Spirit did not erase the natural characteristics of the writers. In fact, God in His providence prepared the writers for the task of writing the Scriptures. Each writer has his own distinctive style and vocabulary. Each book of the Bible grew out of a special set of circumstances. In His preparation of men, in His guiding of history, and in His working through the Spirit, God brought about the miracle of the Scriptures.

The written Word of God is also vital for the "making alive again" or "quickening" of our spirit of man.
Because prior to hearing or reading the Word of God, the soul was in charge of the body and the soul did not even know that it had a spirit of man.
But when this soul (this person) began to read the Word of God, which is spirit and life, then the Word of God BYPASSED the soul and spoke directly to the spirit of man, which then for the first time became "quickened" or "made alive again", so that the soul noticed, "hey, I have a spirit of man"!!!
It is for this reason that the Bible says that the Word of God separates the soul from the spirit once again, as they were separated in the garden of Eden:
Hebrews 4:12 For the Word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
That's why reading and hearing the Word of God is an absolute MUST, because else the soul will not be able to find his spirit of man and discern how to use this spirit of man.

Hi Betty Louise
quote: The Old Testament time and time again is reaffirmed in the New Testament. Jesus, Himself quoted the Old Testament.
It's really amazing how the Old Testament is laced with types of our Lord Jesus Christ. God knew ahead of time all that was going to happen.
A type is a shadow cast on the pages of the Old Testament describing a truth, the fulfillment of which is found in the New Testament. It can be an event, person, or thing. It must be historical and christocentric, and it must be divinely appointed.
Here are just a few of the types:
Types of Christ
Individuals
a. Adam: his headship over a new creation (Gen. 1:28; Rom. 5:17-19; 1 Cor. 15:22, 45, 47; Heb. 2:7-9).
b. Moses: his prophetical ministry (Deut. 18:15-18; Heb. 3:5, 6).
c. Melchizedek: his priestly ministry (Gen. 14:18-20; Ps. 110:4; Heb. 5-8).
d. David: his kingly ministry (2 Sam. 7:1-17; Mk. 11:10; Rev. 5:5; 22:16).
e. Jeremiah: his sorrows (Jer. 3:20; 5:1-5; 8:20-22; 9:1; 10:19; 11:19).
f. Joseph: his sufferings (most perfect type of Christ in Old Testament).
(1) Hated without a cause (Gen. 37:4, 8; Jn. 15:25).
(2) Ridiculed (Gen. 37:19; Lk. 22:63).
(3) Plotted against (Gen. 37:20; Jn. 11:53).
(4) Stripped of his robe (Gen. 37:23; Jn. 19:23, 24).
(5) Sold for silver (Gen. 37:28; Mt. 26:14-16).
(6) Lied about (Gen. 39:14; Mt. 26:61).
(7) Placed in captivity with two guilty men (Gen. 40:1-3; Lk. 23:32, 33).
(8) Unrecognized by his own (Gen. 42:8; Jn. 1:11).
The Feasts a. The Passover feast. Speaks of Calvary (Lev. 23:4-8; 1 Cor. 5:7).
b. The feast of firstfruits. Speaks of the resurrection (Lev. 23:9-14; 1 Cor. 15:23).
c. The feast of Pentecost. Speaks of the coming of the Holy Spirit (Lev. 23:15-22; Acts 2:1-4).
d. The feast of trumpets. Speaks of the rapture and Second Coming (Lev. 23:23-25; 1 Thess. 4:13-18).
e. The day of atonement feast. Speaks of the tribulation (Lev. 23:26-32; Rev. 6–19).
f. The feast of tabernacles. Speaks of the millennium (Lev. 23:33-44; Rev. 20:1-6).
The Offerings
a. The burnt offering (Lev. 1). Speaks of Christ’s willingly offering himself.
b. The meal offering (Lev. 2). Speaks of his purity and sinlessness.
c. The peace offering (Lev. 3). Speaks of his accomplishments on the cross.
d. The sin offering (Lev. 4). Speaks of his dealing with sin’s guilt.
e. The trespass offering (Lev. 5). Speaks of his dealing with sin’s injury.

Hbr 11:33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
Or Pastor brought up this last Wednesday. In the New Testament we are given conformation that Daniel was a real person who was saved by God in the lion's den.
The Old Testament time and time again is reaffirmed in the New Testament. Jesus, Himself quoted the Old Testament.

Psalm 138:2 “For Thou hast magnified Thy word above all Thy name.”
The word of promise made to David was in his eyes more glorious than all else that he had seen of the Most High. Revelation excels creation in the clearness, definiteness, and fulness of its teaching. The name of the Lord in nature is not so easily read as in the Scriptures, which are a revelation in human language, specially adapted to the human mind, treating of human need, and of a Saviour who appeared in human nature to redeem humanity. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but the divine word will not pass away, and in this respect especially it has a pre-eminence over every other form of manifestation. Moreover, the Lord lays all the rest of his name under tribute to his word: his wisdom, power, love, and all his other attributes combine to carry out his word. It is his word which creates, sustains, quickens, enlightens, and comforts. As a word of command it is supreme; and in the person of the incarnate Word it is set above all the works of God’s hands. The sentence in the text is wonderfully full of meaning. We have collected a vast mass of literature upon it, but space will not allow us to put it all into our notes. Let us adore the Lord who has spoken to us by his word, and by his Son; and in the presence of unbelievers let us both praise his holy name and extol his holy word.
(The Treasury of David, Psalms 111-150)

THE SUPREME IMPORTANCE OF GOD'S WORD TO THE BELIEVER
by Cornelius R. Stam
The Bible will always have first place in the life of the spiritual Christian.
It is of utmost importance that we understand this, for some who feel themselves quite spiritual give much time to prayer, but little, if any, to the study of the Word. Such have actually fallen for the subtle trick of the adversary to play upon their natural human pride and cause them to exalt self and push God into the background.
In saying this we do not for one moment minimize the importance of prayer; we only stress the supreme importance of the holy Word of God. In this we are surely Scriptural, for David says, by inspiration:
"For Thou hast magnified Thy Word above all Thy name" (Psa. 138:2).
Of those who would still object and place first emphasis upon prayer rather than upon the Word, we would ask one simple question: Which is the more important, what we have to say to God or what He has to say to us? There can be but one answer to this question, for obviously what God has to say to us is infinitely more important than anything we might have to say to Him. Our prayers are as fraught with failure as we are, but the Word of God is infallible, immutable and eternal.
Yet some, having fallen for one of Satan's "devices" and feeling quite spiritual about it, are like the talkative person to whom one listens and listens, occasionally nodding his head, but receiving little or no opportunity to "get a word in edgewise." They do all the talking, but give little time listening to what God has to say to them.
-------------------- That is all.....
