Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

|Here in this verse it says that HE baptizes in FIRE! Well it first says that HE baptizes in the Holy Spirit, then it says fire. That fire would be 'tribulation'. So whether one has yielded to Him, or responded by their own reactions, determines whether they were building wood, hay or stubble, or whether they WERE STANDING ON THE ROCK!

1Pe 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

Hello Eden,

quote:
Okay...are you saying that when a person who says he believes in Jesus exhibits love, obedience, and a divine discipline, then they are OSAS or "once saved, always saved"?
I hope these verses will help.

We are saved when we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior

Romans 10:9 - 13 (NLT) 9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”

It isn't just a matter of saying we believe, but we believe in our hearts.

Love and Obedience

John 14:15(NLT) If you love me, obey my commandments.

Romans 12:9 - 10 (NLT) 9 Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them . Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Divine Discipline

John 14:16 - 17(NLT)16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.

Hebrews 12:6 - 8 (NLT) 6 For the LORD disciplines those he loves , and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” 7 As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? 8 If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.

Eden, the Holy Spirit helps us to love and to obey the Lord. The discipline comes from Him.

Judgment for our service to the Lord Jesus Christ

1 Corinthians 3:10 - 15 (NLT) 10 Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. 12 Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.

Eden, someone told me this judgment applies only to preachers, but I believe it applies to everyone who tells others about the gospel.

Did this help at all?

1Co 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

|Here is where it starts. When we surrender to Jesus to be born again, we start anew.

1Co 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

|This means that if one does his own thing, after the manner of Cain, that is, he 'works' for his salvation, then:

1Co 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

|The day shall declare it! I presume that means the day of judgment. Nevertheless, at some point, or points, possibly in this life, he will suffer the things upon which one's dependence is proven, whether it is upon HIM, or the one's self. This is trial by fire, when what one goes through cannot be managed by one's own strength.

1Co 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
1Co 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

|So, this is talking about works of a person, whether they are of God, or of selfsufficiency.

1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1Co 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

|That when it gets to this point in the letter, it changes in topic from a matter of 'works' to a discussion of 'sin'; So that, if a man's works are as the 'fruit' of faith, as opposed to being self sufficient as in 'effort', or works, he will be saved, yet so as by fire. But if he 'sins', which is not talking about dead works any longer, him will God destroy! The difference is that in one instance the person will be saved, yet so as by fire. In the other he will be destroyed.

1Co 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

|Here is why! The wisdom of this world misleads one when it comes to serving God. It is because of what one thinks they are suppose to 'do'. Therefore, one becomes 'crafty' in this that they may 'trump' another so that they can take a seat in the higher chambers at the feast. But it doesn't work like one plans.

1Co 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

Hi, Carol Swenson. You wrote in the OSAS Topic
quote:
OSAS does not teach that it's okay to live in sin. We teach Love and Obedience, and Divine Discipline.
Okay...are you saying that when a person who says he believes in Jesus exhibits love, obedience, and a divine discipline, then they are OSAS or "once saved, always saved"?

So what about a scripture like:

John 13:19
Now I tell you before it comes so that, when it comes to pass, you may believe that I am He.

John 8:24
I said therefore to you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you do NOT believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins.

Acts 2:21
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Romans 5:10
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, how much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Romans 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

1 Corinthians 3:15
Then, if any man's work be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

What does the phrase, "yet so as by fire" mean in connection with "he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire"? What fire is that?

with love, eden
