All scripture is given not for one to "wrest to his own destruction." It is not of "private interpretation," which the taking out of context thereof, will thereby prove to be the work of carnal understanding, rather than the Spirit and Mind of Christ.
Yield thy mind to Christ - not your interpretation. You can know.

Michael, remember the verse "All Scripture is given"...
that doesn't apply to just whom the Apostle is addressing at that time but to all us us who read those words.
Good admonition for all oneinchrist

I didn't want to respond to this, but Paul is talking about the unbelievers who are persecuting the believers. Fire will be revealed from heaven against them.
But to go on: How do you know God? We talk about seeking, and praying, and reading, but does that make us to know Him? No! We know Him by revelation only. That means that, neverminding our seeking etc., that He reveals Himself to us. That is how we know Him, and if that doesn't happen, then we don't know Him, even if we go to church for a lifetime; read our bible to tatters, or admonish one another. (David said this while ago.)
Our duty is to believe, and He will respond to it. Choose to believe and He will meet you.
"All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." (Joh 6:37 )
He doesn't recognize the agnostic. Why? No belief. Of course he can change. "Without faith it is impossible to please God."

2 Thess. vs. 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ...
Acts 5:32 And we are His witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey Him.
At first glance of the above passages does'nt it seem that Peter and Paul are advocating a "works" based salvation?
What exactly is it that we need to obey if we desire to receive the Holy Ghost? What is it that we need to obey if we fear God's flaming fire?
With love in Christ, Daniel
